And they proclaimed that he was LE, due to the certain actions etc etc. And I have always seen him as LE, self obsessed etc etc... ps: others might have more solid info on this question. |

He's one of those people who have Greatness thrust upon him, and he's dealing with it as best as he can. As blustery as he is, I think he feels insecure, so he compensates with actions most any government official would do. He's Machievellian because he has to be, although he'd rather be working in Research and Development. |
| #4ThorsbjornMar 21, 2008 12:40:50 | In one of the Eberron modules Merrix sets up one of his younger relatives to get attacked and possibly killed in order to advance a plot that would benefit only him, so that does sound rather evil. I just wondered if there had been any official ruling somewhere to resolve the conflict in Sharn: City of Towers. Thanks! Merrix seems to be one of the more popular, or at least heavily-used, Eberron NPCs. He seems to pop up all over the place, whereas I haven't heard much about other high-level (or moderate-level, but high for Eberron) NPCs listed in the sourcebooks, but that might just be a result of him showing up in the particular module series I bought. :P |
| #5gospodin_iMar 24, 2008 9:26:05 | In Dragonmarked he's listed as LE Human Artificer 9 Dragonmarked Heir 3 so I think that resolves it. And which is the adventure you're talking about? Is he given with full stats in it? I'm planning to bring him in a campaign I'm DMing (but is currently on pause). He's a very cool NPC I think... ![]() |
| #6ThorsbjornMar 24, 2008 9:29:29 | In Dragonmarked he's listed as NE Human Artificer 9 Dragonmarked Heir 3 so I think that resolves it. As that's a third alignment listed for him in an official source, I think that just muddies the waters even further! I was talking about Grasp of the Emerald Claw, and it does not have any stats at all for him. It just talks about his motivations for the plot he's set in motion. |

| #8ThorsbjornMar 24, 2008 10:00:47 | I'm sorry, that was a typo - it's Lawful Evil. I just edited my previous post. Hee hee! It was actually more fun when I thought he had three listed alignments! :D Then I could have invented some bogus argument like, "well they all disagree, so I'm making him chaotic good!" :P Seriously though, it seemed likely from the Emerald Claw module that he's evil, but it's nice to get confirmation that he's lawful evil and that the neutral listing in Sharn: City of Towers is just a typo. Thanks! ![]() He is an interesting character. He's a clever, lawful evil plotter, yet has some very fuzzy, perhaps even insane, notions about the warforged. There's hardly anything more dangerous than a competent, evil crazy person. ![]() |

Moreover, if your players have some knowledge of the setting it might be a good idea to change his alignment, provided you suspect they know what the books have to say about it. This will probably confuse them and make your game more fun. |
