I was wondering if there are any large roll Mindflayers in any books, and preferably one that is not just the usual underdark one.
Thanks

I guess it depends on what you consider a large role. If you mean it has a lot of face time, I can't think of any off-hand. If you mean integral to the plot, well, there are a few. I really don't want to say what novels have them, because that sort of ruins the surprise.

Not a "large" role, but one is the primary antagonist (if mostly in the background), of the first Dreaming Dark novel. He's only in that one (unless he returns in the sequel to the series Keith Baker mentioned a while back), and only has one big fight.

There are also a few in the Dragon Below Series, but they are allies of the evil mastermind, not the villains themselves.

Not a big spoiler, but there is a mindflayer at the beginning of Queen of Stone. He's only in the first 20 pages or so... not really a big deal as he isn't important to the whole of the story. The only mindflayer with a decent amount of face time in any Eberron novel I can think of at the moment would be in the first Dreaming Dark book. But, that has already been mentioned.

Since you didn't specifically state that the should be from the Eberron setting, (although I should probably assume that), you can pick up the FR novel Tangled Webs. One of the main villains is a mindflayer, and "she" has quite a bit of facetime.
It's a sequel, though..
and don't get scared away by the fact that the main char. is a drow.. this is not a Drizzt ripoff. No moping around.
