Minor races of Eberron?

Feb 05, 2009 23:54:38 Just a simple question to the community, you see, I really liked two races that came up in 3.5 Eberron, the Psiforged and the Daelkyr Half-Blood... I really liked the flavor of both races and I love the Daelkyr HB mechanically speaking... So the question(s) is:

Do you like them as I do?? Do you think we'll get a write up on them?? Maybe in the insider?

Feb 06, 2009 10:50:52 I sincerely hope both the half-daelkyr and the psi-forged rematerialise in 4e. They were two of my favourite minor races of Eberron, bringing a very distinct flavour and style to the setting.

Both I expect will be delivered in 4e as feat based sub-races, much like the recently Dragon unveilved Dhampyr.

Totally agree with you, they should make them like the Dhampyr, maybe the psiforged too...

Feb 06, 2009 18:36:04 Psiforged wasn't a real race (or subrace), it was a regular Warforged with a particular body feat. As far as we know, there are no body feats (or else they would likely have been in the Dragon article). I think there may be a 'psiforged armor' magic item which is a component-only item, but that's about all I'd expect.

You know, that's not a bad idea. The dhampyr model should work pretty well for the daelkyr half-blood, though it would mean their abilities would have to be a little more passive/lower powered. Nothing a paragon path can't improve, though.
I think I might have to revisit that conversion!

As for other minor races, I just posted a quick conversion of the Eneko over on the other board.

Technically, all of Eberron was 3.5.

I really despised most of MoE. The authors were least in touch with established canon. Having the Daelkyr Half-blood be a feat for any race would possibly be an improvement, although it has been noted before that part of the reason that goblinoids were so afraid of humans at first is that they look just like the daelkyr. It would be rather creepy for a human looking daelkyr half blood to be born to some other species like orcs or hobgoblins. The problem comes from the fact that the race got a poor excuse for a background write up. The idea was fine, but the execution, like the rest of the book, was abysmal.

The psiforged probably won't get an update until the psionics rules come out, if at all. I was disappointed with the direction the warforged background ended up taking in general. Secrets of Xen'drik revealed too much, and what it revealed (a template for warforged that made them mindless? why was that even a template?) was incredibly lame. The psiforged, as has been stated, were really more of a mediocre feat with a plot hook than a race.

Before seeing either of those minor races get write ups, I would much rather see more on the orcs and goblins of Eberron. I'd actually rather see orcs and goblins before shifters or changelings, which always felt rather shoe-horned into the setting as it was.

So the DM could apply it to an opponent warforged, I would imagine.
