| #1Bly2729Apr 04, 2010 22:07:09 | These are the thoughts that occur to me when Breaking Bad goes to commercial. Something that I've been having a lot of trouble with is finding a way to integrate High Level NPCs like the Lords of Dust, Xen'Drik Drow, Dreaming Dark, or even the Mournland. I mean is it that the Lords-D/D-Dark wouldn't bother with such puny mayflies as heroic tier PCs? Most Rakshasas are paragon tier. Is it a simple matter of keeping a level of lower class evil bureaucracy/thugs layered between the thugs? I guess that makes sense. I'm just wondering how to strike the correct plot pacing balance between PCs demanding a face when they hear the words "Dreaming Dark" and every dying thug saying "Eff you Mario my boss is in another castle!" So what method do you use for perma-killing Rakshasas and Overlords? Also from a lore perspective, what about those level 11 Karrnathi Undead? Wouldn't those things completely blow the Host out of everything on a Last War battlefield? Using the logic from OotS 417 it's easier to picture. Or the Tank from Left 4 Dead. |

Thus far, an example of an in-game reason for why it isn't an issue. Just remember that all the monsters as shown in the ECG are only examples. They're just handholds for the DM to have an idea at which point they would present a feasible and neat challenge for the players. If you want them at lower levels, then delevel them. Just remember that deleveling stunners to heroic level is a TPK at worst. In my case, I plan on popping up the Big Bosses on their own levels. I'm lazy like that. They can puppet-master sufficient underlings without them noticing it. So none of that 'The princess is in the other castle'-crap, but when the party notices what has happened, they'll be knee-deep in crap anyways. I don't need Rakshasha's on early levels anyway, just as the party has no business taking on the Daughters of Kell on level 5 as well. They can, of course. Only they'll get their **** shiny buttocks handed to them in round 1. Apparantly I used a bad word :P My apologies |
