| #1CentauriFeb 13, 2010 20:39:10 | I'm about to start running The King of Trollhaunt Warrens. If possible, I'd like to run it in Eberron. Can anyone who's familiar with the adventure (I've only just started reading it) and with Eberron tell me where on Khorvaire the adventure could be set? |

I supose the Eldeen Reaches probably work better since if Breland would be facing the threat of an army of trolls they would send in the army. The Eldeen Reaches are more likely to rely on the locals to deal with the problem. Then again, that is one of the more common problems when adapting adventures designed for the Point of Light Concept to Eberron, you need to think of a reason on why the authorities do not get involved. |
| #4GiloFeb 15, 2010 7:51:11 | When I decided to place Moonstair in the Valenar I had to deal with the "why the authorities do not get involved" issue: I establish that there is an escalating conflict in the north between the Valenar elves and the Karrnaithi outposts which draws all the warbands in the Valenar north leaving the Moonstair area (in the east) unguarded. Further more given the separatist nature of Moonstair's Khoravar population, the town's half-elf prefer to relay on the House Lyrandar sent mercenaries (the PCs) rather then calling the elves for help. As the adventure progressed the PC got delayed a month in a side-trek into the feydark. They returned to town to discover that the conflict in the north have subdued and that Moonstair has become a staging area for Valenar warbands raiding the trolls in the swamp (since I already run the town's defence encounters - I felt there was no need to keep the "point of light" status anymore). |

All I really need is an area that could plausibly have a trade route and river going through it, with some nearby swamps. A forgotten troll kingdom could spring up nearly anywhere. Good point. In general I would think that you could excuse it by saying that the governments don't want to get involved for fear of straining the peace with large troop mobilizations, or for fear of losing a smaller force to what in this case is a paragon-level threat. Besides, governments are slow to decide and act on threats, especially if there's no reliable information on the nature and extent of the threat. The dragonmarked houses are easy to explain away: there's simply no profitable angle for any of them. |

Personally I would have an easier time changing the terrain, then adding a troll kingdom out of the blue, but that i just me ;) I am one of those people who immediately need to think of reasons on why people never heard of the troll kingdom, especially in the civilized regions. Adding rivers and lakes to the single continent wide map, or even changing it into a hill or something similar is for me a lot easier. |

My Interpretation (which I think also follows the logic of the adventure) was that there *used* to be a troll kingdom back in the Age of Monsters, but they got crushed by the Dhakaani empire (and nobody remembers anything about it in the current age). All that remains is one swamp with a few trolls (their numbers spiked recently) and some old ruins - which I feel can be placed anywhere in greater Khorvaire. |
