| #1VeritatisNov 18, 2008 11:51:37 | Hi, all... Well, my party´s next mission takes them right into the Fleshwood, and I just wanted to know if any of you have any image that resemble Mordain to accompany my briefing on his deeds when he was part of the Twelve. You know like and elven Fleshgrafter (that gnome is awesome!!!) Thanks in advance for any help! |

In case you are unfamiliar with the name, the tzimisce is a vampire clan from World of Darkness. They have the ability to graft flesh, and is utterly evil and insane. (Pretty cool). You should be warned, though, that some of the pictures related to the name can be a bit disturbing. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| #5mystrichDec 01, 2008 17:31:51 | I personally don't think Mordain has gone over the top with experiments on himself. One could say he still looks Elvish if you look close, but he may have claws, new eyes, a breath weapon, and anything else stitched on. Deformed, but not nearly as much so as his experiments wandering around the castle, or anything of the sort. One DM threw giant bugs with baby heads at us when we entered his land, and I could only imagine things getting worse from there on. His castle is filled with Byeshk (sp?; the metal that harms aberrations) mostly for his own protection, possessing many aberrations locked away in his basement, some preserved for study, others mutilated and recreated. I imagine he could possibly even have a Daelkyr locked away. Basically, I imagine Mordain's land is as wild and crazy as the Mournlands themselves, holding anything and everything for a good horror game. Perhaps his castle itself is a living creature of his creation, walls pulsating on the inside, small warped servants running around and carrying out experiments under his eyes. 180 words, but hey, that's more than the other posters have given. As for pictures though, start with the fleshweaver PRC and describe off of that: ![]() |
| #6herogoethDec 01, 2008 17:49:46 | I personally enjoy the idea that Mordain himself might look rather young, and very powerful. In my mind, the thought of him surrounded by his own corruptions, but appearing relatively uncorrupted himself makes him a more frightful villian or ally. It is easy to justify slaying a monster, but what campaign directions could an encounter with a less black and white creature offer? This image might suite such a concept. http://www.elfwood.com/art/e/r/ermartin/shadowveilcg.jpg.html |

| #8PJammaGodDec 03, 2008 5:27:13 | I think that the pic in the last link was real good. I think of Mordain as Orochimaru from Naruto Want to know the scary thing Elrodian, I actually thought of the exact same thing when I read this topic today... *get's out tin-foil hat to stop thought stealing* Anywho considering that Mordain is ex-Phiarlan (he was excoriate after they found out how much he "loved" experimenting with Daelkyr magic) he's probably got a dragonmark somewhere prominent (I'm assuming at least lesser if not greater mark). What's a really scary thought is that perhaps through his constant experimentation he may be able to change his mark into other marks, maybe even shifting his form with it. The idea that he could borrow another dragonmarked heirs body and abilities is going to fill the players with concern (especially if there is a 'marked member in the party). But the idea of some handsome elf (or other race if going with my theme) as opposed to some malformed genetic horror is going to give the players goosebumps. Then again look at the Daelkyr, they actually seem quite comely until that flesh-whip appears from their wrist. |
| #9rauricDec 03, 2008 8:00:03 | I too will use him soon. I picture him to be the ultimate, most elfy elf there is. Very hansome and striking looking. I might have him be a shapechanger though, not sure. The key thing is while he is in his Tower of Forest he is immortal and godlike (IMO). The PCs attack him in his home he will just meld into the walls and escape, or make the Tower attack them. That is my take on him. All of the mishappen things should be his "subjects" and servants. I am going to have people "living" in the paintings hanging from his walls. His home should be creepier than him IMO. |
| #10missekatDec 06, 2008 5:35:35 | in case of the elfy elf picture, why not just steal from our brother setting and use the pictures of the ultimate gentleelf villain: elaith_craulnober |
| #11mikeloop86Dec 08, 2008 15:52:18 | I gotta go against the flow and say I plan and have always imagined Mordain being something of an abomination by the time the PC's get to him. Sure, he'd have clones of himself from the various stages of self-experimentation, but by the end of the adventure, when the party has made its way through the small legion of warped replicas and into his rather tame looking study or bedroom, this is what would be waiting for them on the other side of a silk shroud:![]() I see him more as someone just so pursuant of his goals and experimentation, that he simply elected to have a body, period. He cares not for things like symmetry and aesthetic beauty (at least not with himself), but functionality. And what better way to monitor and manipulate your multiple experiments then with a exponential number of eyes and appendages. I don't honestly like the idea of Mordain as a normal looking elf, because to me that's sort of a let down. Thats like finding Mr Rogers at the end of the dungeon as apposed to Dr. Lector. I understand the idea of playing with your players expectations, but for me it just leans too close to groan inducing Shamaylan-ian twist endings. |
| #12vharuckDec 15, 2008 22:22:47 | Here's one I found in the Lords of Madness art gallery (along the lines of self-experimentation: http://www.wizards.com/dnd/images/lom_gallery/88130.jpg I found these by Googling various H.P. Lovecraft stories and characters: Here's a... thing with a tentacle head. If you want less self-experimentation and simply more derangement, bizarre masks are good. |
