#1 mooncinder Feb 21, 2009 5:20:35	Hi all, My friend is planning to run an Eberron campaign soon and so we're all currently thinking about what characters we'd like to play. One of my friends, no matter what system or setting we play always makes a "bishi" or "pretty boy" character and he's challenged me to make an even bishi-er (I know that's not a word...) character than his. It's going to be tough as he's way ahead of me with character creation and has decided on an incubus that has 16 charisma. So, what in your opinion is the most bishi (google "bishonen") race that can be used in an Eberron campaign? If you want to know more about the character I have in mind, I was thinking of going for a psion (probably kineticist), obviously young male, something along the lines of Kalashtar, maenad or something celestial. Oh, and if you can suggest something that can beat 16 charisma you get extra brownie points. ;)

#4 mooncinder Feb 21, 2009 8:12:06	I did consider an elf but I thought they're all meant to be even more snobby and arrogant in the Eberron setting than they normally are. ;) I'm also currently playing an elf in another D&D campaign so it would be nice to go with something different. BTW, did I mention this will be my first Eberron campaign so I have no clue about the other races available apart from those I've read about in the main Eberron book. Would a kalashtar work? Or I could just go for a human with a wings template...
#5 RedRider Feb 21, 2009 8:27:19	Changelings. Be fifteen different bishounen as the situation demands! But yes, Kalashtar works since they're handsome in an almost alien way but you could also go for half-elf, halfling or one of them prancy Aundairian humans. Really, you could just say almost any race and make a super-bishounen character. If Jagermonsters can be bishie you could play some kind of savagely handsome half-orc or shifter. Though Thri-keen or Lizard folk may be pushing it a little.
#6 mooncinder Feb 21, 2009 13:11:24	Yay for the Girl Genius reference! :D I think you're right, RedRider. I'm kind of torn between a load of different races at the moment so I'll talk it over with our DM tomorrow and see what he thinks. Otherwise, I guess I'll have to roll a dice and see.

Unearthly beauty, touched by dream and nightmare, locked in a tragic struggle with horrifying from the heart of our dreams, martial arts tradition in the Path of Shadows, and hey, you can even get armor made from solidified emotion. But as others have said, there's a case for ANY race. I've got a pretty bishi Valenar in one of my games, and I can certainly see the case for changeling or half-daelkyr.

#9 demon_paladin Feb 23, 2009 15:30:35	Kalashtar is my first reaction, but daelkyr half-blood has a strong case. Especially since if you play one right (or wrong) they end up being Sephiroth, the poster-boy for emo bishies.

#13 Elton74 Mar 04, 2009 17:05:12	"Ambiguously Gay?" Bishounen are either heterosexual or they are gay in Anime/Manga. Hetero-Bishounen are typically heroes: the knight in shining armor, for instance. Gay Bishounen are typically villains -- the pretty boy that wears women's 80's exercise costumes and would blast you a hundred times with an energy blast (re: Tenchi in Tokyo). To play a Bishounen, you have to make him pretty, lets see -- I do believe I have a render of a Bishounen . . . The Charisma part has to be roleplayed by you and the DM. Bishounen pcs with strong charisma can be Thrallherds (don't know how do that in 4e since I never got the books), Soulknives, Warlocks (don't know how you're going to get through that one, Warlocks are notoriously ugly), bards (especially), rogues, and fighters. For a race in Eberron you can't get past Kalashtar, then Changelings (which can be "Ambiguously gay" or even Bi-sexual), to humans and elves, to the other races.
#14 ganryu Mar 04, 2009 20:44:51	I think it's a mistake to connect "bishounen" with thrallherds. While bishies can be charismatic, they are, at least in my experience, rarely designed around the role of leadership. Those on the good side often push other people away and keep their distance. Even villains are sortof similar and their character is rarely, if ever, designed around the concept of having underlings of the kind the thrallherd "image" is constructed around. Of course, they WILL have underlings (unless they are underlings themselves, which is fairly common actually) and in that case even the thrallherd class is not necessary. When designing villains the thrallherd class is unecessary, as the same effect can be aquired by just giving him some henchmen NPCs without thinking about his class at all. Example bishies (from the top of my head) Kagehisa Anotsu - Blade of the Immortal: Villain, leader Byakuran - Katekiyo Hitman Reborn: Villain, leader Kojiro "Ganryu" Sasaki - Vagabond: Villain, leader (sortof) Anyway. I also seem to remember that charisma does not necessarily reflect physical beauty. For example, a bishie could technically still be a bishie with only 7-8 charisma. He might just have a horribly ugly personality :P

Yeah, he would have an ugly personality (points to the 3.5 Warlock).
#16 missekat Mar 07, 2009 2:57:39	Dunno.. A celestial Kalashtar? That shpuld pretty much do it, I should think. And hust about all the Kalashtar art is VERY bishi. With long silken hair and the likes.

#24 Alex_ Mar 12, 2009 20:02:28	I'd say Daelkyr or Inspired. Daelkyr are described as being incredibly beautiful, and have the whole insanity thing going for them. Inspired are supposed to be a mix of Human, Elven, and Fiendish creatures. A perfect blend of joe average, pretty boy, and bad boy.
