Mror Holds Campaign

I am trying to come up with an idea for a paragon tier campagin, and one thing I was considering is a Mror Holds game.

We have a human fighter in the party who plays a perennial screw up, and he has the mark of warding. He never fully fleshed out a backstory, but together we came up with the following which would work with his character. His past is that he, and some cronies were attempting to rob a supply train in the way to the mror holds and it went very poorly. He betrayed his friends, leaving them to be captured or worse so he could escape. After the escape he manifested the mark.

I would say due to him, a human, possessing the mark of warding would make him a rare thing indeed. He may be worshiped or reviled within the mror holds, or even both.

Now I am trying to sort out what to do with this. I see the Dwarf clans to be like the Dwarfs in Dragonage, with the politics and feuding. Perhaps they recognise him as escaped would be bandit upon seeing the mark? Maybe they wish to use him as a tool for the political machinations either against or for house Kundarak? Perhaps they wish to prove the parties worth of the mark by sending them down Goradra Gap?

Would any of this make for a compelling campaign, moreover could it capture the pulp fiction-esque that people expect from an Eberron campaign? Or perhaps I could do the investigating angle, which I am not too sure how to pull off. Has anyone had luck with that before? In 4th ed it seems like a slew of skill challenges would could get tedious pretty fast, and my party members are not the most talkative.

Anyway, advice as always is appreciated, and thanks in advance

A human with the Mark of Warding.  Huh!  Well, definitely he should be an anomaly.  I personally feel that the dragonmarked, especially the tradition-minded dwarves of Mror, would react negatively.  Almost as if it were an aberrant mark.  But I'd make separate factions.  Most would want to bury the notion, but some might be intrigued and want to know more.

As for paragon tier adventure ideas...

Hmm, all right, I'm a bit biased on this one.  But if this is set in the Mror Holds, and it's paragon levels, you know what's pretty close by, geographically?   Taer Lian Doresh, the Fortress of Fading Dreams.  It's specifically paragon tier.  In the upcoming third article (coming out sometime in October), I even added a section about the Mror Holds.

But basically, if you want to bring dreams into the mix, then the fey of the Fading Dreams can also be interested in learning more about this anomalous dragonmarked human.

What can is your human going to be hanging out with?  Do you have the 3rd Edition Player's Guide to Eberron?  That book describes each of the clans, and I think knowing which one he'll be staying among might help steer our adventure ideas.  But yes, I'd say Goradra Gap is an excellent paragon tier location.  All kinds of higher-level beasties can be lurking down there.

Also, are you familiar with this article?

That does seem an odd way to get the dreaming involved, almost too detached from the world. I was considering going to use the quori either as a faction in q'barra or as an insidious force within Aundair, trying to stir the Queen into waging the war again. I reading Keith's ideas on it and liking the concept, but I am flat out trying to think up a campaign around it. Also I do have the 3rd ed book so  will have a look at the Clans, and read that article.

To be clear, I wasn't referring to the Dreaming Dark or the quori at all.  Taer Lian Doresh is one of the eladrin feyspires from Thelanis...except that this one in particular was exiled to Dal Quor long ago, so they're particularly ill-tempered, nasty fey. Nightmare is their specialty.

I just had a read of your article and it is really good, and just had the party depart the Llahzaar Principalities. They are currently on an airship heading west departing the area because I was thinking of running the trollhaunt warrens (and I still might after getting good advice on making it eberrony). I see now that it is in fact a city in two dimensions at once, ruled by an Eladrin who seems to be a bit crazy, and wanting vengeance (correct me if I got that wrong). I might be able to have the party encounter other Eladrin who speak of him in grave tones however, it was mentioned that they other know of him, but are ashamed of his actions. Would he also seek vengeance against the giants, or is it just the Eladrin he has bad blood towards?

There is a fair bit of info in Fairhaven across all levels of play. I also really like the demon wastes as an area, maybe involve that "other" (I forget the name at the moment) which wishes to establish a foothold there. Maybe get the party a stronghold out of it, sounds a bit high paragon tier however.

I guess I am just at a crossroads in the campaign which admittedly has not gone as well as I hoped. Hopefully I can come up with something stellar by the next game

Thanks

*edit* I just had a look at the 3rd edition rulebook and they made mention of Clan Soldorak who seems like they would be very happy to use a marked human as a way to discredit or bring shame to the House Kundarak. Also in the adventure hooks it mentions a plot to steal from the Kundarak vaults and how major factions from all over would want to get their hands on a recovered artifact. There was another involving the Lords of Dust who I find very intriguing.

We are now getting another player in the game, a gnome with the mark of shadow...
In this case his backstory is that house Phiarlan has embraced him as a way to get an even more covert agent then the usual elf.

Anyway I feel now I need to write the story to have the fact that out of race marks are gathering in the party, so it will have to include the draconic prophecy.
