Been DM-ing Eberron since it came out, and I'm jazzed that I can run it in 4e. Granted, there are some snags that will work themselves out in due time. For now though, I've got a fresh group of rag tag adventurers to "deal with."

Kylar, Valenar (Elf) Ranger, Wields longsword and hand axe. I've ruled that he could use the hand axe to make ranged attacks and combine those with the melee attacks on abilities that allow multiple attacks, hopefully this won't bite me on the end.

Baern, Dwarf Fighter, a tough as nails dwarf that has the determination to crush any opposition with what amounts to a rock-lashed-to-a-stick.

Anna, Female Khorvaire Elf (Eladrin) Wizard, to this Student of Morgrave any ice age that comes in her lifetime would be her fault, entirely. Focusing on some frosty spells makes it easy for "cold shoulder" jokes.

Norrin, Khorovar (Half-elf) Cleric of the Silver Flame. An embodiment of altruism, but don't count him out in a fight. From across the bar he will still perforate you with the all-consuming flame, while bringing his own back from the brink to pummel your weakened Swiss cheese like form.

As it stands, we're mighty elf-heavy. However, they're a well-balanced force to be reckoned with.

I'm envious of your group. :D

Sounds great though! What are your plans for them? Or do they read the boards too?

I'm the guy playing Norrin, and I do read the boards. But I promise not to peek into any spoiler blocks.

Well, thus far they're trekking through the adventure path Rescue at Rivenroar. Of course this had to be modified because I wanted to see how easy the rules on starting characters at higher levels (3rd) worked. So far so good. Of course we've only had the one session thus far.

What is yet to come.
Since Inkblot and I are currently switching off monthly on running separate games, this adventure should be enough to get me to September. As for October, I'm most likely running another pre-made adventure, either the follow up to Rivenroar, once again level and campaign adjusted. All the while I'm working on an adventure based off of my favorite Eberron novel, The Darkwood Mask. Assuming you might not read it, it is full of twists and turns as well as great role-playing points, and spectacular set battles. Including a final showdown in a glass factory. It's bound to be a great gaming experience.

I reflavored the the cleric powers somewhat, to fit my concept of the character and the themes of the Silver Flame.

Based on my as-yet fairly limited understanding of the rules, he should only be able to do that on any power that actually has a range to it (i.e. Burst, Blast or Area powers).

Hr. Twin strike, sword attack with one hand, throw axe with the other? Technically not legal, and will draw an opportunity attack which rather limits its value in melee, but probably not horribly abusive as long as the power is one that can normally be used with a ranged weapon. If the power doesn't normally work with a ranged weapon, this shouldn't be possible.

I took it as he's allowing him to attack in melee with both or to use the same power to throw the axe. One or the other. The rules don't say you can, but don't say you can't. Although, since Ranger is similar to the Warlock class which specifically states you can use powers that aren't your focus, I think rule-wise you aren't supposed to be able to. I'd allow it, but not sure on the official ruling.

Well, to clarify, what I've allowed with the ranger is that attacks such as Twin Strike, which would otherwise only allow the player to make either two melee or two ranged attacks I've allowed the player to be able to make one attack with the longsword as melee, and one with the hand axe as ranged as a viable third option. My reasoning for this is thus, it's cool looking, the ranged attacks from the hand axe aren't terrific as far as damage. Also, it hasn't met with resistance from the other player's, nor has it displayed any elements of a bad rules call. So as it stands, it stands.

That seems fairly reasonable to me, though I too would probably rule that using the axe as a ranged attack provokes Opportunity Attacks.

Oh, but of course.
