Names of the Dark Six

Oct 06, 2008 23:13:37 Now i like to think i know a good amount about Eberron, i own all of the source books and have been starting to read the novels since i haven't had to buy a Eberron source book in a while.

But something took me back and i am not sure if it is well known fact that is in a source book and i just missed it or if it was something in a novel that is rarely known to only those who read those books...

To get to the point, Do the Dark Six indeed have "official canon" and for that matter, unofficial, Names other then their "the" names...

I ask this because in a recent thread about Neutrality of Gods, Hellcow and a few other posters talked about, Dol Azur, AKA The Mockery... What struck me was how offhandedly used the name was as if it was common knowledge... but i have never once seen the real name of any of the Dark Six.

This has sparked my interest in using these names apart of a plot in a possible Eberron campaign.

So i ask, what are their real names if they have official or unofficial canon names and if so where are they (Which novel or source book)???

Oct 07, 2008 6:26:25 Dol Azur isn't supposed to be common knowledge, when originally introduced it the Knowledge Religion check to know that Dol Azur was the Mockery was DC 25, which means that even a lot of the clergy would be at a loss for the name.

While I'd suspect that The Fury, The Devourer, and The Keeper may have names proper, the titles of The Shadow and The Traveler are probably their actual names. Seeing as one is a living shadow of a god and the other one is known for being unknowable and mysterious.

Oct 07, 2008 9:34:28 The novel Storm Dragon I believe gave a few of the proper names , though they might have been the Dhakani names for all I can remember. I'd look it up for you but all my novels and 3.5 Eberron books are packed and in storage at the moment

The novel Storm Dragon I believe gave a few of the proper names , though they might have been the Dhakani names for all I can remember. I'd look it up for you but all my novels and 3.5 Eberron books are packed and in storage at the moment

It only has the Dhakani Names, and its only suspected that these were the gods of the Dhakani and were later replaced by the host...

My Question wasn't about Common Knowledge in game... but more or less in the Eberron Community.

The Devourer is Shurkaan
The Fury is Szorawai
The Keeper is Kol Turrant
The Mockery is Dol Azur
The Shadow was always known as this
The Traveler has had so many names no one knows His original.

Though it is worth noting that these are their names by Pyrinean tradition (and even there, yes, virtually unknown to the common worshiper). Just as Aureon was known to the giants as Ouralon and in the Church of the Wyrm Ascendant as Ourelonastrix, it's likely that the others have different names as well.

Dol Azur is the one you're most likely to hear bandied around because the Three Faces of War cult uses it.

One thing i love about Roman and Greek and many polytheistic religions is the translations of one god to another between cultures.

Is there any chance for a large list for the gods for their accepted translations to other cultures? I would love to be able to have that info at hand and easy to find so when a Cleric of the Host Travels the lands i can use the other names and let her know "thats their name for (Insert Name)... I wouldn't think it would take up too much space and Compared to FR which has SO MANY MORE GODS it could be nice for the DMG to have these in a list or table form. Think about it?
