#1 Ogiwan Nov 09, 2009 21:33:19	Greetings, all. I'm looking forward to resuming my Eberron game immensely. My party is currently in Breland, but I intend for them to travel to Karrnath to investigate an undead unit that seems to be missing. My intent is to have the PCs walk into the mausoleum (I figure it looks like a ziggurat) that houses said unit, and have it be echoingly empty. Anyways. I'm having problems naming two NPCs who will feature in my campaign. The first is the Big Bad, a vampirical Order of the Emerald Claw type whose goal is to turn everybody in Sharn during the Race of the Eight Winds into Karrnathi undead under his control. The second is the head of the Karrnathi Office of Naval Intelligence (with an acronym like ONI? How could I NOT use it?!) who discoveres the PCs and may or may not get in their way. Sure, I get that they would both be ir'something, but i don't even know where to go from there. I mean, i guess Karrnath would be a harsh, germanic-russian sounding accent and naming conventions, but...aside from that, i have no idea.  Any suggestions? P.S. If anybody can draw, i have the mental image for the seal of Karrnathi ONI: A wolf skull with anchors in its eyes, with a dagger in its teeth. ONI or Office of Naval Intelligence optional.
#2 Calestin_Kethal Nov 10, 2009 6:02:30	Five Nations is what you are looking for. As I recall, they have first name & surname lists for people of the Five Nations. (Including Cyre.) If you don't have a copy, track it down. It's invaluable national fluff. Take one of the surnames, add ir' to it, and you have an instant noble. Alternately, skim through the chapter on Karnnath, and you'll probably have a few examples.
#3 RedRider Nov 10, 2009 6:52:28	Also, look to the names of past monarchs. Showing your patriotism by naming a child after the monarch is probably going to be popular in wartime. (Though obviously, don't name any of them "Kaius" because then it could get pretty confusing.)
#4 PJammaGod Nov 10, 2009 23:09:11	If you're looking for inspiration beyond the bounds of Five Nations (which anywho is an excellent book. Oh btw you're looking for page 117 for Karrnathi names), try a culture which could have allusions to Karrnath. Germanic naming conventions, perhaps Slavic or Russian. And is worse comes to worse, a name generator is always useful ;) . Hope that helps
