Need help/ideas to design this minor artifact...

The 4th Edition Eberron books are not out yet but I am working on a minor artifact and wanted to get solicit ideas from the board and people much smarter than myself.

Ok, brief example of the item I am working on. It is a rapier that I plan on having been created by Alder d’Cannith for the patriarch of House Cannith. It is basically an item that had been passed down and was in the possession of Starrin d’Cannith during The Day of Mourning. The item is very powerful (a minor artifact) but was more ceremonial due to most patriarchs likely not being engaged in much melee. The story needs more work but I am about to leave for work so I wanted to post something.

Anyhow just wanted some ideas on some unique properties this thing may have. I am also thinking about making it somehow aligned with The Traveler; maybe Alder worshiped him in some aspect as well and it is tied to the weapon. The artifact will be found by the PC’s at lower/mid levels but won’t reveal its true power until later (scaling) and maybe not even until/unless they manifest a dragonmark of making. I was thinking of having powers unlocked as a dragonmark of making gets stronger. Merrix will likely send the PC’s to Eston/Whitehearth to dig up some other stuff (maybe creation forge) and they will find it. It will naturally go to the Cannith PC and may be the item needed to reunite the house (because he holds the sword). Like I said before, the story needs refining but I wanted some ideas from you all. Oct 11, 2008 3:51:15 I real like the idea that the artifact is connected with the dragon mark i think it is real cool. I think one of the powers the artifact could have is that it rebuilds you armor right after it as been damaged.

Not that I know of.

Oct 11, 2008 13:39:54 Thanks for the link, I had actually checked that site out earlier. I think I need to get a little smarter on 4 Ed before I have any creative juices. I also need to probably wait until the Eberron material comes out next summer. I will continue to work it and post updates as I develop them.
