I'm planning on starting a 4th edition Eberron campaign for my regular gaming group. Currently my plan is to use the Mark of Prophecy introduction adventure in the Campaign guide. As for primary antagonists I know i want to use the Lord of Blades and the Dreaming Dark or the quori in general.

The idea I had is that Merrix discovered a creation forge on Xen'drik and when he activated it it produced on single warforged, the Lord of Blades, unknown to Merrix a quori spirit was trapped in the creation forge, and when used to produce the Lord it inhabited its body. The Lord helped Merrix with the creation of the forges on Khorvaire along with assisting him with the device that would eventually cause the Day of Mourning. Merrix eventually realized the Lord of Blades true intentions and he sabotage the device before it could be complete causing the Day of Mourning but saving Eberron from a second invasion.

As for the Lords current motives, i think its pretty clear that his plan is to bring Dal Quor coterminus to Eberron,  the warforged army he is amassing is nothing more then a means to an end. The issue i'm having is how he plans to do this, one idea I have is for him to somehow build a similar device to the original and use the manifest zone in Sharn in order to spread the mist? Perhaps locations were the mists occur allow Quori sprits to come through a sort of staging ground, the reason this doesn't occur in the Mournlands is perhaps due to the premature use of the original device? Actually thats my best idea.

Any thoughts or comments?

The primary problem I'm having is hooking the starting adventure to my idea. I had an idea that Arik was a pawn by some benevolent entity (dragon, etc) that delibratly mislead him (kinda wanna make him a tragic figure). It used him as a pawn to make sure the adventurer's came together in order to stop the Lord. I think with my idea Merrix's grandson in Sharn would be perfect, the first act could focus on finding him in Sharn, getting the from heroic to paragon tier. Paragon through epic i thought could send them to Xen'Drik in order to trace Merrix's original path to the creation forge for whatever reason, perhaps a way to permantly banish the spirit or to understand the Lord of Blades. This leads to a fight between themselves and Lord and finally for epic tier actually stopping the device proper, and bringing back the Lord for the final encounter. I'm jsut having problems finding good ways to bridge everything together.

Well, how do you envision the Dreaming Dark working? While the LoBster may be a quori, the rest of the Dreaming Dark may not know what he's doing. The DD could have used whats-his-face as a pawn in order to heighten tensions on Khorvaire, and thus make the Khorvairan nations request Riedran aid, thus further increasing Riedran influence on Khorvaire.

i hadn't thought of that i imagined the LoB as a quori who was trapped in the artifact since the age of giants, a living relic of the original invasion but i mean i can easily change that. And i hadn't thught of that angle.

Right. If he was a quori trapped in there for 40,000 or whatever years, the rest of the Dreaming Dark wouldn't know what he was doing.

Until, of course, the story has progressed far enough. Or whatever.
