| #1vegetalss4May 28, 2008 13:19:00 | so i am thinking of DMing a campaign set in Eberron, however i need a basic idea that can capture the ebberron flavor. the campaign has to be VERY light on political intrigue and mystery stuff because i am rather bad at doing that kind of stuff. so anyone that can help me out? |

Invite them over, reach consensus on what part of the world they want to explore and what stories they want to try, and then make the characters appropriate for it. You'll have to find a way to reach consensus on where to start the campaign, but I've found the initial brainstorming with everybody provides me with adventure hooks for months. |

Then you've already cut out a large part of Eberron's flavor. Though mystery isn't that hard really, well, unless you run it find clues and catch the bad guy. Run it so what the PCs originally think turns out to be wrong. Even if it's obvious, you just added a bit of intrigue. Heavy action is another big thing you can add, with things more flavorful than the normal dungeon, but following the same concept. Lightning Rail or Airship the PCs are on about to crash is always actiony, save the world type scenarios work too. |

Party returns from a trek in random forest. They are then contacted by some "random" NPC who have heard of them, and a troubling rumour about an item that may destroy the world. (bummer eh?) 2. NPC gets killed of, and the NPCs have only a name and a diary to go by. The name leads them to a university of your liking, I choose Arcanix. Here they learn that the item is splitt in three parts. one in the Mournlands, one in northern Karrnath and one is in the possession of a famous singer in Sharn. 3. PCs run of to get the pieces so that they may be destroyed, but the royal eyes of Aundair and a dragon bellow cult both want the same things as the PCs. 4. In Karrnath they have a Mexican stand of in a hut that gets hit by an avalanche. In Sharn they crash a floating restaurant. (both are stolen from the pulp encounter stickied on this board). And the last part is in a museum in the Mournlands close to the shores of Karrnath. 5. It turns out that the professor at the university is actually working with the cult of the dragon bellow and he and his minions run away to the shadow marches. Atop of a ruined temple deep in the marches he summons a demon good of pain or something. I used a awakened, half dragon huge constrict snake, and a bunch of Varguile heads flew around him. Each time you killed one of them a new one came out of the same portal as he did and he got a few HP back. To stop this regeneration you had to destroy 4 statues around the portal who channelled the energy to him. This was a really cool quest both for me and my players. And its not really hard to mix in a bit of intrigue. I tend to choose a number of organisations (preferred being three). Stating their motivations and see where that takes me. Everything don't have to bee betrayal all the time. Sometimes its enough just to try and figure out what everyone is chasing you for :D Anyways, I hope this helps out a bit. |
