Pillars of Eberron

While I was not a backer of the kickstarter for Pillars of Eternity, I did gladly purchase the game upon hearing of its release, and I've been playing it obsessively ever since. The nostalgia is palpable and enthralling.

And it makes me really upset there was never an Infinity Engine game for Eberron.

So I wanna make one.

I've got a degree in game design, but it's been years and years since I've tried to develope anything for a game. But I'm dusting off the old skills and I'm looking into GemRB, an open-source emulation of the Infinity Engine, to create an all-new game.

The idea I have right now is a gritty noir story (definately rated R) that takes place entirely in the lower parts of Sharn. The main character will be a down on his/her luck inquisitive. I'm picturing a multiple-choice backstory that will inform some of the character's personality. Like they're a war-scarred veteran, or an excoriated Dragonmarked heir. The quest will be based on some past campaigns I've ran in Sharn, with a missing persons case leading into an underground gladitorial slave ring run by Daask in Malleon's Gate, and potentially as the last mission tying everything together investigating a Radiant Cult to an Idol of Lust (cause any homage to Sin City needs ninja prostitutes).

Speaking of Sin City, because I'll have to make all the isometric maps from scratch, and I know I don't have the means to produce anything approaching the visual quality of actual infinity engine games (I'm just not that good at 3d modeling and rendering), I want to give everything a very gritty Sin City look. Lots of black and white with stark colors used to highlight importance. Mike Mignola is also a big inspiration for the style I'm thinking of.

Why am I saying all this? Well, cause... does anyone wanna help? I really really want to do SOMETHING and I will put something together someday, but I feel like this could be greater and bigger with the help of more people. Coding is not my strong-suit, and any help figuring this GemRB out would be fantastic. So... who's got some talent and time to lend? Baring that, would anyone even be interested in playing something like this?

If you actually make this, I will love you forever. And please tell me if you need money for art and other stuff.

I would love this.  Eberron has been my favorite setting ever since I was introduced to it.  It needs so much more love than it's gotten.

Atari no longer has the computer game license for Dungeons and Dragons. And it would seem that they are now a bit more free with leanding it out to lesser known developers. So perhaps we could get to make something like this wihtout having Avon sued.

Haha, thanks for the funding offer Skrapsan, but I'd be remiss to actually take anyone's money over this. It probably won't be a reality for a very long time. At this point I'm not even sure I can include a combat system. I wanted to use 3.5 as the basis, since Eberron was built with that edition in mind, and certain things (like Warforged and Artificers) haven't been properly done since, in my opinion. But it looks like 2nd edition may be hard-coded into GemRB, and if not, I haven't figured out how to implement an entirely new system.

But thanks for the response, guys. It's encouraging.

I would totally write for this project.
