I thirst for any 4e Eberron news. The wait is killing me and I am dying to run a 4e campaign.

I think we should be getting regular Dragon articles starting in May! And then the month after that we get the Eberron Campaign Book. So, just a little more!

I think back in February Ampersand started promicing Eberron updates, but alas only Fleshweaver stats. There are just so many itchy questions.

I think I'm going to start the campaign in May...and move slow enough that I don't break anything major before the new book comes out and tells me it doesn't exist anymore or something.

There arent going to be any major changes in the setting. It still takes place in the same year. The only difference is going to be the addition of new races which shouldnt change much as they all have easy logical places (except maybe the Deva.)

Deva will probably have some sort of place - they're given a block in the FR Player's Guide, and that came out months before the PHB2.

I'm inclined to believe they'll be some sort of manifestation of the Binding Flame... rather than ex-angels who risk turning into rakshasas, they're bound rakshasas who must stay on the straight and narrow lest the captive evil spirit within them breaks loose.

Given the relationship between the Silver Flame and Rakshasas -including the Rakshasa bound in the flame at Flamekeep which exists as potential corruption of the flame- this seems very workable.

Go for it. I have been running a 4E game since Sept. Anything new and I can just fit it in no problem.

You could just do what I do, I don't move about with the mechanics. Yeah sure the people of the houses have strange marks and runs around doing house stuff, but none of it has any crunch behind it.

Right, although I think it's technically a rajah under Flamekeep, which means it's a "rakshasa" in the same sense that a tiger is a housecat. :D

But, yeah, the shtick with rakshasas and rajahs and all that is that you can't ever really kill them. The best you can do is dissipate them (in which case a new one will eventually form in their place) or seal them away, hence why the Silver Flame is also known as the "Binding Flame." The most well-known manifestation of it in Khorvaire is the Silver Flame found in Flamekeep, but I understand there are other manifestations elsewhere unknown even to the CotSF. (I don't know any more specifics than that off the top of my head...) Making the devas into walking, humanoid, endlessly-reincarnating manifestations of the Flame seems like a good way to give them a solid place in the setting, explain why they reincarnate as rakshasas should they turn evil, and introduce story hooks - how do different factions in the Church react to them, as saviors and paragons of virtue, or dangerous heretics that threaten the supremacy of their power?

If only you had asked this on the 1st of April, oh the fun that could have been had :P .

In all seriousness there hasn't been much on 4e Eberron, just glimmers and faint hints (updated map of Khorvaire, Mordain's stats). Hopefully come May we'll have something to sink our teeth into!

I believe they were called Rakshasa Rajahs :P

Also a link on the Khorvaire Map (or at least let me know where it is please)?

Yeah, but if I say "Don't go in that room, there's a cat in there," you're going to interpret it very differently if I specify "tiger." :D

The (small) map and Mordain stats were in a Dragon magazine Ampersand column a month or two ago, you can see them here - http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dramp/2009Feb (DDI account necessary.)

Well at least tomorrow we should be able to see where the Expeditionary Dispatch will be from. I'm hoping someplace on Khorvaire that hasn't gotten a lot of spotlight. We had Valenar and Droaam recently... but something that's not going to be expressly within the new books.

Wild speculation time!
I'm going to guess the lost city of that 13th dwarf clan that more or less went missing 400 years ago. Can tie in slightly with the even older Stone Kingdom the lot of them were originally evicted from.

Why am I guessing this, because Neogi are coming out in the MM2 and I remember somewhere (might have been the Eberron Expanded of the Lord of Madness book) it being mentioned that Neogi might be to dwarves what dolgaunts and dolgasts are to goblins and hobgoblins.

Of course its probably something else, but if it is I might have a submission for a dragon article.

Just as the dolgaunts were created from hobgoblins, the neogi were created from dwarves. Though the neogi bear no physical resemblance to their predecessor race, the greed that burns at the heart of the dwarven psyche remains, driving the neogi to consume and control.

Knowing Eberron's dwarves, one would think that the aberrant dwarf should be a rust monster

Thar would be nice. I've always wondered about the 13th clan. They don't really give much info on it.

The ToC for Dragon 365 is up, and we have our Expeditionary Dispatches topic!

Expeditionary Dispatches
By Andrew Schneider
Most lightning rail voyages are uneventful, but one run near the Mournland holds the unexpected for its passengers.

I hope we see rules for encounters atop or within the lightning rail.

I hope we see rules for encounters atop or within the lightning rail.

I hope those "rules" take the form of terrain features or traps. As in:

Hard Wind
In places where the wind is extremely hard and going in one direction (e.g. cliff tops) characters must make an Athletics/Endurance check DC X or fall prone.

Shaking Ground
In places where the ground is shaking a lot (e.g. in a carriage) characters must make an acrobatics check or be slid X squares in a random direction. If this results in them hitting a hard surface (e.g. carriage wall) they fall prone. If it involves them falling, let them make a saving throw DC 10.

----

That way its useful to everyone and doesn't require additional rules.

Hard Wind
In places where the wind is extremely hard and going in one direction (e.g. cliff tops) characters must make an Athletics/Endurance check DC X or fall prone.

That's a pretty awesome rule. It'd expand upon it like so:

In places where the wind is extremely hard and going in one direction, characters must make an Endurance check DC X at the start of each of their turns, or be pushed 1 square in the direction of the wind. If they fail the check by 5 or more, they are pushed 1 square and are knocked prone.

(Just to give some middle ground to failure and success. Also, I feel like Endurance is the best fit for resisting the wind, since Endurance usually lets you resist harsh environments. Also, Athletics already gets a lot of traction as it is.)

I'd probably remove the falling prone bit. Acrobatics works for the check, since it's about keeping balance and balance is one of the functions of the skill. Also, you don't need to note the DC for a saving throw, cause all saving throws are successful on 10 or higher.

THE NEWS

Previews for the Eberron Campaign Setting, Player's Guide, and adventure are up on May and Beyond http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4pr/20090504

The good! Dreaming Dark Assassin stats!
The interesting. The Campaign Guide is still comin out first in June despite what has been reported by Amazon.
Personal 'meh'. "Clockwork bomb" mentioned in the Player's Guide blurb... Eberron was never really a clockwork place, magic rather than tech not magical technology... but meh its only one item.

Interested in becoming a self-forged and using warforged components . . . even if you're not a warforged? Purchasing a clockwork bomb? Perhaps learn feats tied to your dragonmark?

Hmmm...

Yes but the wait is whats worth it!

And as an added bonus you feel twice as good when it does finaly come out.

That or you hate it and the wait just built up your enthusiasm so now you hate it twice as much and then you go: "I had to wait that long for this!".
