I don't know how many others used these rules in 3.5 but I loved the idea of demon posession in the 3.5 Eberron guide.  Has anyone cooked up a 4e version of those rules?  I'm sure I can cook up something myself, will probably work similar to the way companion characters introduced in the new DMG2 (might be fun to give control of the possessing demon over to another player) combined with artifacts.

So far I've yet to consider any rules on possession. It just happens(then again, I use it extremely rarely. When it comes to PCs, only onc did it happen. A player murdered in cold blood an inocent messenger of the BBEG...who became a poltergeist and possessed him).

Exorcism is easy on the other hand. It's the perfect skill challenge. My suggestions are Knowledge:Religion(duh), Arcana(drawing magic diagrams and the like), Bluff/Intimidate(for interactions with the fiend), potentially heal(you do not want the exorcism to kill the victim, do you?) and endurance(the fiend physically or mentally fights back or the exorcism is a heavy load on the exorcist and can actually harm him).

Possession would be an attack against Will defense. I'd treat it like a disease effect where you have an initial status and worsen, improved conditions. Maybe the initial attacks, makes you dominated, but if you fell that saving throw you become possessed.

I think this thread could also discuss about channeling (aka good possession)

Actually I think tweaking the disease rules could work quite well for possession. Instead of the initial attack v fort to see if you become infected you have an attack v will. You could then use the disease progression rules to model the possession becoming more completed with wis or cha checks instead of endurance.

I believe the mindseed power is moddeled this way now. Got no reference but it might be worthwhile to take a look at that.

Also for those who have access to RPGA adventures, SPEC 1-3 H2 has an example of an exorcism skill challenge
