| #1betrayorJun 07, 2008 10:11:33 | So I have just got the eberron books 3.5. So there is olny one capable of casting 9 level spells in the entire planet? I have skimmed through the books and i have only found that the olny one who can cast 9 level spell is the keeper of the flame and this olny when she is in her cathedral. Is there any other powerful spellcasters?(I know about Vol but even she can't cast 9 level spells). Are there any Npcs that are over 17 level? |
| #2pass_the_remoteJun 07, 2008 10:47:42 | Well, it is supposed to be a low-powered world, with an emphasis on the PCs being somewhat extraordinary. I imagine that you could make the case that one of the Argonnessen Dragons would be a high enough level to cast a level 9 spell, or that one of the giants on Xen'drik would be powerful enough to do so, both having been around for so long and mastered ancient magics. Or perhaps, the Daelkyr could cast level 9 spells; a force that is so evil and vile that it had to be trapped in the bowels of the earth thousands of years ago, and not without terrible loss to the people on the surface. But on the continent of Khorvaire, in the present day? Yes: only the eleven year old girl can cast level 9 spells. However, again I stress the importance that Eberron is a low-powered campaign with the emphasis on the PCs being a powerful force, even at lower levels. Although they may not be the most powerful force, the fact that they are heading towards something greater is a showcase of their potential and thereby their power. |
| #3mystrichJun 07, 2008 10:48:09 | There's also Mordain the Fleshweaver. For non-humans, many demons and dragons are Wizards and Sorcerers well above 20th level. If you see a problem with this, you aren't understanding Eberrons flavor. In Eberron, the PCs are meant to be the heroes. A few others may get high level, but most people only have NPC levels, and most of those that did reach high levels or had potential to died in the war. By level 10, a rogue is probably already one of the best known thieves in the world. A wizard will have spells some people have never even heard of. Basically, after getting past a certain point, your characters are the strongest mortals on the planet, they are the heroes of the setting. Unlike in FR, where between Gods and those in epic levels, you're left wondering why the PCs even adventure if they have so much protection. |
| #4betrayorJun 07, 2008 13:26:24 | No i don't see a problem with this. I was just wondering who are the most powrful npcs in eberron and more particular in khorvaire. So we have the keeper of the flame and Mordain(in which book is he?). Also someone told me that an cleric named Melysse Miron becomes a 21 level cleric when she is in flamekeep. I thought that olny the keeper of the flame gain power in such a manner. Again i say that i don't see a problem that npcs are not powerful i just want to know so i can run my game. |
| #5elrodianJun 07, 2008 16:56:27 | No i don't see a problem with this. Melysse Miron worships tHe demon in the Silver Flame and it has made her his campion. This website is where Mordain is form, her is also in the campain setting book and there are other there to http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050725a Daughter of Sora Kell are powerful and people form the Twelve or Arcane congress can wok two and do not forget that some of the BArons of the Dragonmarked house are powerful two |
| #6mystrichJun 07, 2008 21:22:46 | Daughter of Sora Kell are powerful and people form the Twelve or Arcane congress can wok two and do not forget that some of the BArons of the Dragonmarked house are powerful two Most are about levels 10-15 though, and still can't cast epic spells. Also, Melysse Miron was the former Keeper. People thought she worshipped and was chosen by the demon in the Flame, and was therefore overthrown. She was extremely powerful in Flamekeep, and they barely captured her, so after using flesh to stone (so that a new Keeper of the demon wouldn't be chosen after her death), she was locked away. Although, if the demon wanted to weaken the church, why not choose an 11 year old after the church things no more Keeper's of the demon will be chosen (wink:adventure:wink)? Also, Mordain is an elf wizard of House Phiarlin, whose experiments trying to mimic the Daelkyr's creations got him kicked from his House, the Twelve, and Society. He currently resides in Droam, where even the Daughters are afraid of him and his mutated creations. He's an 18th level transmuter canonly, but I'd suggest something like 15th or 16th level transmuter with 3 or 4 levels of fleshwarper from Lords of Madness. |
| #7elrodianJun 07, 2008 21:49:45 | I looked in at the list in the book the Five Nations on page 128 and she is not on so do you me that she was the former Keeper of the demon Even thought you said that she is one right now. |
| #8mystrichJun 07, 2008 22:16:03 | I looked in at the list in the book the Five Nations on page 128 and she is not on so do you me that she was the former Keeper of the demon Even thought you said that she is one right now. She's also mentioned in Faiths of Eberron and a Dragon article. Basically, she was the Keeper, but her actions led people to believe she was chosen by the demon rather than the flame. Since there is only one keeper at a time, her being alive would mean that there could not be a demon of the flame based Keeper. |
| #9WizardmanJun 07, 2008 22:28:34 | There's also Oalian, the 20th level awakened greatpine druid. |
| #10daydreamerJun 08, 2008 0:23:43 | oalian. the fleshwevear the keeper. the daugthers of forget sora kell? riedra has some 20th levell psionicists. daelkry are sometimes epic, like cr 21-25ish. Rajahs are epic and like cr 30 would be weak for one, some are cr 40+ probably. But both these creatures are trapped. ARgonnesh probably has some super power dragon lords that are epic. the non dead religious leaders of the elfs probably include some cr 21+ monsters. |
| #11elrodianJun 08, 2008 7:19:38 | yes the undying court would be very powerful and Mystrich you said that she can not be a demon of the flame based keeper but she is in dreadhold becaues she is believed that she is one so she might not be one but it can happen becaues they will not put her in there if it can not happen. You also said that there can only be one keeper at a time, this is ture but that does not mean they die and a new keeper put in. When a new keeper is found they are put on the seat. So She could have gotten mad that she had to give up the title to a 11-year-old girl and the demon used that and now she is the keeper of the demon but she thinks it is the silver Flame. |
| #12mystrichJun 08, 2008 10:21:58 | Rajahs are epic and like cr 30 would be weak for one, some are cr 40+ probably. But both these creatures are trapped. You're mistaken. The low ones have 30 levels, and stronger ones are closer to 50-60. The CR for one is about 70-100+. |
| #13drewdagreekJun 10, 2008 3:29:13 | Isn't Vol a 17th level wizard too? Also, one of the articles on high level magic uses ( a dragonshard I thnk) mentions that Sora Kell herself is a pretty high level wizards still out there somewhere. and Mordain is in the main setting book, he's claimed a small area of Droaam. |
| #14WizardmanJun 10, 2008 3:54:33 | Isn't Vol a 17th level wizard too? She's officially statted at 16th. Also, one of the articles on high level magic uses ( a dragonshard I thnk) mentions that Sora Kell herself is a pretty high level wizards still out there somewhere. Sora Kell is an interesting case. The legends about her are contradictory. Some say she's an insanely powerful spellcaster, others say that she rips entire armies to shred with her claws. We know that she's insanely powerful, but that's all we know. and Mordain is in the main setting book, he's claimed a small area of Droaam. True, very true. There are also the citizens of Io'lokar. Elabenna has a CL of 24, and "Dragana" can have a CL of up to 19 without adding templates or caster levels. Those two are only the named ones; there are others. MANY others. There is also the unique case of Hassalac Chaar, the Prince of Dragons. He* is a kobold** sorcerer*** of at least 12th level.**** *-- Or she. **-- Or is he? Shapechanging magic means he can be whatever he wants, even a changeling who can change size with reduce person. **-- Or so the stories indicate. He could be a warlock or a wizard. ***-- He could be far less powerful, but have access to some sweet magic items. Or he could be far more powerful, holding back to conceal his true strength. Basically, he is whatever the DM wants him to be. If the DM wants him to be Eberron's answer to the Wizard of Oz, he can be that. If the DM wants him to be able to have Elminster Aumar for breakfast, Mordenkainen of Greyhawk for lunch, Raistlin Majere for dinner, and just enough room for Borys of Ebe he can also be that. Have fun. |
| #15elrodianJun 10, 2008 9:06:07 | Isn't Vol a 17th level wizard too? i have already posted a link to it |
| #16thaliostJun 10, 2008 10:56:47 | There are still some, including the oak druid in Eldeen Reaches, and as I remember some necromancer in Karnath. You just can't find their data in the book, because Eberron is not a world so much influenced by high level NPCs and the Gods. The tone of the game is intrigues and struggling, while good and evil are sometimes vague, harsh and realistic. That being said, if you get books of Xen'drik, Sarlona, and Argonessen, you'll find more powerful beings out there. |

The world has them but only a few powerful NPC have influenced in the world because they just want to do there own thing. The world is one that has magic and politics going hand in hand so the magic is turned down because if you do not there would a wasteland of with a lot of people in the air firing fire balls at each other, the size of the moon. Now you said that in Xen'drik, Sarlona, and Argonessen has more powerful beings and i think that is because Khorvaire is real new to magic compare to the other 3 continents |
| #18thaliostJun 10, 2008 15:55:06 | plzs read the things already posted the oak druid has already been posted my Wizardman I apologize. Network is working against me when I try to view all the posts... |

| #20wraithstrikeJun 10, 2008 22:24:20 | What books are Sora Kell in? I have never seen anything but a name? |
| #21thanaelJun 13, 2008 5:23:55 | Check out the Eberron NPC thread on ENWorld. |
| #22wraithstrikeJun 13, 2008 7:03:25 | Check out the Eberron NPC thread on ENWorld. She is not listed. I guess her power level is up to the DM. |
| #23skrap-sanJun 13, 2008 7:23:27 | OK So I've heard of the daughters of Sora Kell but I asume that we are talking about their mother? But the daugters at least are listed in ECS pg 166. But it contains no other info other than: Sora Katra (NE female green hag, bard CR 16) Sora Maenya (CE female, annis Barbarian 10 CR 16) Sora Teraza (LN female, dusk hag, cleric 13 CR17) Hope it helps. And if not, they are still pretty powerfull NPCs and could make for a great chalenge anytime. |

Another poster mentioned a dragonshard article but I have not been able to find it, even after using google. |
| #25skrap-sanJun 13, 2008 15:44:50 | Yeah I figured it was something I missed. Ah well hope someone finds some info. |
| #26betrayorJun 13, 2008 19:21:49 | This is the article that was mentioned above. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ebds/20050725a While it does not exactly have stats it is interesting. |
| #27wraithstrikeJun 13, 2008 20:28:02 | This is the article that was mentioned above. I guess I get to add another NPC to my "ready to be made" list, but I dont kow what class to make her. |
| #28elrodianJun 13, 2008 20:41:22 | This is the article that was mentioned above. plz look at what is posted before i have already posted a link to it |
| #29betrayorJun 14, 2008 15:50:38 | plz look at what is posted before i have already posted a link to it Well yes it appears that you are right. In my defense though the last two people before my post were wondering about its location. I didn't thinko to look at the previous posts I admit. You have my sincerest apologies. |
| #30Marcus_MajarraJun 14, 2008 23:45:56 | I think there's an important difference between the kinds of NPCs presented in Eberron sourcebooks and the kind of NPCs you see in other campaign sourcebooks, such as those from FR. Eberron's NPCs are the ones who make the world go round, and these people don't need to have a lot of class levels to be good at what they do. Your most typical Sovereign Host priest will actually be a low-level expert, rather than an adept or a cleric, because leading the faithful doesn't require that he master divine magic. Similarly, the rulers of nations do not need to have plenty of class levels because they operate their will through their subordinates, and mostly against opponents of similar calibers. This said, there are plenty of high-level NPCs in Eberron, and they come in the same variety as PC adventurers. But, just like PC adventurers aren't the ones making the world go round, neither are these NPCs, and this is why you don't see them in the sourcebooks. |
| #31elrodianJun 20, 2008 20:18:16 | Marcus Majarra makes some good points and he is right. i have gone thought some books found people that are high lvled and they hold alot of power and i few i think one that does not have a lot of lvls but he is powerful. these are the ones i like Chanaakar, Speaker of the Word (unoffical rule of Adar) (LG male human monk 1/cleric 3/Sorcerer 4/mystic theurge 7) The one Inspired i like and one you can meet right off the bat if you go to Riedra Lady Tureya, the Jewel of Corvagura (LE Female usvapna Inspired Telepath 15) Naar-Esqa, Qiku Sky Teller is the ruler of the Shifer nation of Qikue in The Tashana Tundra (NG male shifter druid 8 ) Esravash d'Lrandar leader of Lyrandar (NG female half-elf expert7/dragonmark hair 2) Queen Aurala of Audair (LN female aristocrat 8 ) Queen of Stone, Sheshka of Cazhaak Draal (N Female medusa, ranger 4) Mordain and Vol have already been said High King Valallia (N male elf bard3/fighter 10) The Sibling Kings of Aerenal, Belaereth (LN Male elf fighter 2/ cleric 12 Undying Court) and Tezaera (LN female elf cleric 16 Undying Court) of kube Mendryrian Storm Lord Jonas Wylkeses of The Wylkeses (LN half-elf Socerer 4) |
