| #1ShiftkittyJul 16, 2009 14:58:22 | My birthday is coming up and I was given a preview of my present. One of my players, a huge William Gibson fan, is going to take the reins for an Eberron campaign. He boosted my 3e Eberron stuff last week to get a handle on the world (and my husband cleverly rearranged the bookshelf so that I wouldn't notice anything was amiss, but like a dragon tending her hoard, I knew something was amiss, I just couldn't place what...). With the 4e ECS coming next week, the hand was tipped. I GET TO PLAY!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D After 26 years and a few false starts, I get to sit on the other side of the screen again! All we know about the game is that it's going to be very cyberpunk, with artificers being a techno-arcana underground social class. The difference is that in Gibson's novels, everyone has at least casual contact with high tech. In this game, I'm told, while magic may be commonplace, the craft of the Artificer is very underground, and those who practice it without some sort of official nod are suspected enemies of the state. We can pick whatever classes we want as our "day jobs" so to speak, but every PC will have some degree of Artificer to their design. They will also be from the lower strata of society. It sounds like he's going to tweak a lot, and I fear that our underground group is going to run afoul of more than a few houses. Do you think it's a good mix, Gibson and Eberron? Artificers and Cyberpunks? |

Cyberpunk and Eberron reminds me of another thread: Another idea (tho its a bit more extreme) is to flavor the Dal Quor as cyberspace (virtual reality interstellar internet), the Quori/DD are evil AI existing only in the cyber realm. Riedra population are "The Matrix" victims. |

Warforged Grafts, Self-Forged, Renegade Mastermakers, etc. <=> Cyberware, implants, etc. There are definitely more equivalencies (at least thematically) but nothing else is coming to mind at the moment. |
