#1 leliel Jun 14, 2010 21:57:14	There is no better way to put this: I want to create a magebred character with a little "Inspired" pedigree (as in, he's a magebred with some Chosen blood in him, not an Empty Vessel-Feral Heart wanted a little variety in their supersoldiers, so they made a line of pure psionists), and I want to know exactly what I'm giving the DM as plot hook. What do the quori do beyond "eat dreams" and "rule Sarlona from behind the scenes"? What are their castes, what is their daily life like?
#2 Hellcow Jun 15, 2010 11:58:40	I don't have time to post an essay on this, but what you're looking for is page 158 of Secrets of Sarlona. A very rough hierarchy is: Kalaraq (top) Hashalaq Usvapna Du'ulora Tsucora Tsureva (Bottom) ... but there are undoubtedly other types that haven't been mentioned. A few things worth mentioning: Quori don't create dreams. The creation of dreams is a natural process when a mortal dreamer enters Dal Quor. What Quori with the Dream/Nightmare power can do is to exert their will to transform dreams, and this is something they may do to serve the long term goals of the DD or for personal enjoyment. Quori don't eat dreams as such; instead, they generally draw strength from a particular emotion. Tsucora feed on fear. Du'ulora draw strength from aggression, anger, and hate. Hashalaq actually draw their power from joy and positive emotions, and are more likely to manipulate with pleasant dreams than terrify. Tied to this, each caste has a role, and each thrives in this role. The Du'ulora live for war, and if they didn't have wars to fight in Sarlona they might create them in dreaming minds. The Hashalaq are loremasters, and catalog the knowledge gleaned from millenia of dreams. And so on. Quori society is highly ordered. This ties to the old idea that what differentiates mortals from angels is free will. The quori know their role in society. Service to the Dreaming Dark isn't a choice; it is what defines them and drives them. The kalashtar quori were aberrations from the start because they had the ability to question this. But Quori aren't simply mortals living in dreams. They have a clarity of purpose and dedication to their cause that most mortals - and even many immortals - lack. With that said, there can be dissension in the ranks, as discussed in SoS. But even there, it's generally a question of what is best for il-Lashtavar and what il-Lashtavar needs... not simple jockeying for personal power.
