| #1endianxJan 27, 2011 13:59:40 | As others have done, I am looking to run an adventure based around The Race of Eight Winds. However, I am having trouble coming up with enough content. I don't want the race to just be an encounter, I want it to constitute at least half of the adventure. I plan to modify the rules so that teams are used, not solo riders. I also wanted to turn it into the Tournament of Eight Winds, with multiple events. The Race would be one event. Another would be some sort of combat, what the Sharn: City of Towers book calls Skyblades. However, that is only two events, and makes for a pretty sad tournament. I'm thinking I need at least one more, but I've been coming up blank. I had considered some sort aerial scavenger hunt around Dura or the city, but that doesn't sound very interesting. However, that is the sort of thing I am looking for. Some sort of event involving aerial mounts, but that isn't racing or combat. Any ideas on this would be very helpful. Thanks, Dave |

A series of hoops are suspended across wires. contestants fly past, a rod in one hand, and try to catch as many hoops as they can, then pass them off to the next ally who tries to catch as many hoops as they can, etc. Winner is the one with the most hoops. 2) "Catch the snitch", where both sides attempt to capture a small highly maneuverable target. Maybe a Warforged's Final Messenger would do the trick. The winner is the one who can speak the Final Messager's message. 3) Lacrosse or Buzkahi, minus the decapitated livestock. Instead, contestants toss a filled sack or ball to one another and attempt to get into the scoring area. If they're tossing a ball, they can use lacrosse type catchers. 4) Ariel rodeo. See how long you can stay on the back of a wild Hippogryph. See if you can chase down a swift gripphon, lasso it, and then leap from your ariel mount onto its back. Barrel Racing, where you don't compete directly with other riders, but simply try to make the best time in an obstacle course. Of course all practitioners will be equipped with belts of feather fall or some other safety device to prevent death. |

"... or do they? Seems that there are an aweful lot of "accidents" happening in the tournament/race this year; and did you hear the rumor of Alfred Wimblestock? Word is, when they found his body, he didn't have a belt of feather fall; the belt seemed to have pulled him down faster, like it was made of lead. They say he even managed to catch a rope, but the rescue griffon. it was tied to had it's back broken. Seems nearly impossible for a 60 pound gnome to break the back of a Hippogriff." |

It's just two days before the race, and it seems that the Gargoyle, who normally rides for Malleon's Gate, has been petrified (Or maybe he's just asleep. How can you tell?). If you're a crimelord, you need that gambling income. The PCs first task - find someone who can fill in within the next 2 days. In my game they approached the Bat, who used to race for Malleon's Gate before he retired. Of course, in order to get him to race they had to guarantee a victory, which meant rigging the entire race as well. This required bribery, deal-making, and more than a few threats (Pop Quiz - What's the difference between a pegasus's head and a horse's head?) The PCs second task - find out what really happened to the Gargoyle, and who is responsible. In my game, it was the Boromar Clan, who poisoned him with a giant spider's venom. The PCs had helped the Daask take over their dreamlily trade, so this was their vengeance. |
