Nov 20, 2008 11:25:53 How does it look? How is it run? Does Eberron even have an magnetic north/south pole? etc etc... Just started wondering given all the ships and airships etc.

When you walk down a street in a big city like Sharn - it points to the nearest Warforged.

In Khorvaire it used to point in the direction of the Mror Holds (biggest concentration of metal on the continent) but since the Day of Mourning it points toward the The Mournland.

In a village in Riedra it points toward the nearest monolith.

In Argonnessen it leads you down the path of the the Draconic Prophecy.

Nov 20, 2008 14:30:53 I've always pictured them using stars to navigate, though in SoX iirc there is an Orien compass (it points north)

Like, discern location spells or something in a nice ornate wooden box. they would probably point to things that are keyed to the captains log book. This would make it so being a part of some faction that could grant you log books and a compass would be a huge advantage on the market. And also, this way it makes it so that each captain could have two totally different ways of figuring out where they are going and how they want to get there.

Nov 27, 2008 3:26:36 Depends on what sort of compass you are looking for. A planar compass is very useful for attempting to locate manifest zones. A magnetic compass is good for locating north (or relatively close to that). A warforged compass lets you find warforged (great for finding and repairing disabled warforged). A corpse compass... well you'll need to ask a corpse collector what they do and most Karrnathi would rather let the curious find out personally ;) .
