| #1pontoarkFeb 27, 2009 12:39:56 | Hi, My group is going to thrane to research a series of murders that happened in the silver flame and are now happening with the solvering host, but I need to temper the investigation with some combat and distrust, so I was considering either starting a small war against thrane or the silver flame preferably against monsters instead of humans but I don't know so, do you know any group of those who would have a reason to start a war against any of those? it can be a small war, I just need to mess things up a bit Thanks in advance |
| #2ellorinFeb 27, 2009 12:54:52 | A war? Against the PCs and the factions they represent or a third party? Some additional information about your group and those it represents would be very useful. |

| #4pontoarkFeb 27, 2009 22:08:16 | any war involving thrane or the silver flame is good enough. The plot is, with more details: There is are two "demons" (its not exactly a demon, long story thought) and they are binded to a taboo, one of then kill old trees and the other priests who can cast spells. The one who need to kill old trees can shapeshift and the other can talk to the dead so thats how he infiltrates the church and discover where to find the priests with powers, right now the priests dying are from the sovering host (one of the players church) and the players know that the same thing happened with the silver flame, and as they are out of clues about what to do, they are going to investigate what happened in the silver flame church. I just want to spice things up a bit, if either thrane or the silver flame where going thought some complications(a war) it would bring a nice opportunity to mix the role play with some combat, and it would give a nice opening for some opportunities for a deeper role play. What is the city of Thaliost? where can I find more information about it? Thanks again |

During the war it changed hands between then a few times but in the end Thrane had it at the signing of the Throne Hold Treaty. Aundair Still wants it back. There is a little about it in the Campaign Setting book but more in Forged For War. You could also do a Civil war between the Religious leaders of Thrane and the Royals that once ruled the country. |
| #6jabberwocky888Feb 28, 2009 2:34:57 | The name's Forge of War, actually. As for then idea of war - I'd be quite careful with that. A full scale warfare would be clear defying of Thronehold Treaty with serious repercussions. If the problem is Thaliost I'd prefer low profile operations - assassination attempts, sabotage, blackmailing. With possible small scale skirmishes but no large scale campaign, really. As for other adversaries: 1) Inner conflict within the Church (the sect worshipping the demon voice in the Flame, I can't recall their name at the moment) 2) Karrnath secretly trying to destabilize the situation (might be the real power behind the conflict with Aundair). 3) The same for Blood of Vol - BoV and SF hate each other. 4) The same for Lords of Dust, for obvious reasons (they can be behind anything, actually). 5) In my campaign, the Church is universally hated by Eldeen shifters and one of the PCs sometimes speak about the Church having to pay for the Purge. That would be another interesting adversary. Either real lycanthropes or a militant shifter sect. |
| #7ellorinFeb 28, 2009 3:38:19 | A crusade against "monsters" might do the trick. Possible targets are: 1) Droaam. Burn the monsters before they grow in power! Drooam has not been recognised by the other nations. As a result, if Thrane declares war. the treaty of Thronehold won't be violated. 2) The lizardfolk of Q'barra, if the nature of Rashaak is revealed. Actually that's what happened in our last campaign( of course, the Dreaming Dark and the Talons of Tiamat, acting seperately, were behind the whole thing but I digress). Burn the fiend worshippers! 3) The sachuagin. You guessed it...burn the sea devils amd stop their vile acts of piracy and Dark Six worshipping! Naturally, a crusade requires that the most intolerant factions rise in power and influence and comes up against the interests of the other nations and the Dragonmarked houses. A major diplomatic failure would be very likely. |
| #8rauricFeb 28, 2009 7:35:25 | If you want monsters why not have it be some unknown lycanthropes that hid in Khyber for centuries to escape persecution. They have been building up their resources and power for revenge angainst the religion that murdered them and hteir children. Now they are raiding towns and cities, murdering and raping to cause panic and woe on their old enemies. They should have the backing of some nasty Khyber baddie like a dragon or demon/devil/rakshasha maybe. They could be trying to take over Thaolist for some reason. They could be trying to free some rajah or daelky lord at the behest of their hidden master or they could be all by themselves finally attacking after all those maddening years in Khyber. |

Nice one, Rauric! I would have expected Lamannia, but Khyber is a very interesting option. |
| #10rauricFeb 28, 2009 8:15:00 | It is more "eeeeeevil" than Lamminia. Makes the pcs feel more heroic. |
