| #1mort_qMay 14, 2008 15:20:59 | It seems that residuum is the new essence in 4e (see ECS 32, Retain Essence). I like that it's core. I like that there's a ritual for it. Artificers then, would likely get the ability to this better and/or cheaper. However, given the changes to magic items, and the like, does an artificer as a class make sense? Seems more like a playing style, or perhaps some feats and a paragon path. |
| #2herogoethMay 14, 2008 16:00:43 | Admittedly, the ability to create a vast array of items has been an immensley attractive feature of the artificer class, but in truth, that has been their downtime power. In real application, at the gaming table, Fourth Edition is about the at will, per encounter, and per day powers. Take a look at The 4E Artificer: Brainstorming and Discussion I can think of dozens of unique, interesting, flavorful powers that fit the iconic concept of the artificer. Balancing them and making sure they do not steal thunder from other classes is a challenge, but we have the WoTC team and a dedicated fan base of playtesters and idea-engines. I have faith that the Artificer will have a strong and note-worthy place in 4E. |
| #3RedRiderMay 14, 2008 17:16:29 | An interesting question may be whether items can have per-encounter powers (IE: Infinite necklace of fireballs, produces 1/encounter) because if that's the case, one of the artificer powers is bound to be the ablity to squeeze more uses out of such items. |
