A few notes before I start:
- This is mostly for my benefit. I'm currently running this module as a PbP game and it's easier for me to update if I have the statblocks, conversion notes, and so-on in an easy to access online place rather then a stack of poorly written notes.
- For the most part I plan on sticking to the skill check guidelines on page 42 of the DMG (updated for Errata, of course). While I'll note which level of check, I'll also put up just which DC I'm using.
- I'm running this for a party of four level six characters (I didn't want to run for five, and we'd all done level one a few times)
- For the most part I'm just noting where I'm diverging from the module, mostly in terms of skill checks, stat blocks, treasure, and so-on. I doubt I'll have any major story changes, but maybe by the time I get to Grasp of the Emerald Claw I'll be changing the story flow too.
- While I appreciate input, and will do my best to dutifully consider anything posted, I promise no meaningful response. For the most part I'm barely staying ahead of where my group is, so half the time by the time I'm posting something here I'm already running it.
- Yes, I'm a slacker for barely being ahead of my group.
- Anyway, I hope this is useful to others, but I'm satisfied if it's useful to me.

Scene I: The Message Station
Same as printed, except skill checks are as follows:
- Search DC 10, 15 and 20 become an easy, moderate and hard Perception check. For level 6 this is a DC 7, DC 12 and DC 17.
- The check to identify the Kobold footprint is a moderate Nature check. For level 6 this is DC 12.
- The check to identify the Warforged footprint is a moderate Nature check or a hard Arcana check. For level 6 these are DC 12 and DC 17.
- To get Lady Elaydren d’Cannith’s name from the gnome clerk is a moderate Diplomacy check. For level 6 this is DC 12.

- I couldn’t find stats for a giant owl, so I plan to use the stats of a dragonhawk (ECG, pg 42) instead, and describe it as a giant messenger hawk.

- I budgeted the encounter as an equal level encounter, so for my group of 4 level 6 characters I had 1000 XP. I split this up between the warforged leader and his four kobold minions.
- Sorcerer in 4e is very different then in 3e, and it’s difficult to make a non-aggressive character at all anymore, so I decided to make her an artificer that focused on the defensive/buffing powers. Even then, I ended up not giving her the daily she should have, as I didn’t want her to really be an effective combatant (the original adventure has her cowering in a corner mostly. There’s a reason she’s hiring adventurer’s, after all).
- For Cutlass I used the Warforged Captain (MM pg 261) as the base. To make him a proper threat to the party I bumped his level by 2. He gets a name change to “Glaive” to follow the naming convention set out for followers of the Lord of Blades.
- The kobold skirmisher and kobold slinger were pretty much just what I wanted. All I needed to do was bump their level a bit.
- The fight should be Glaive, two of the modified kobold skirmishers, and two of the modified slingers. If I wanted to up the difficulty (or adjust for 5 players instead of my 4) I could add another kobold. XP total: 1050.
- Naturally, I had to modify the bag’s contents.
