So, Mark of Making and Master Crafter?

Jul 23, 2009 7:10:51 Recalling this from memory, but the question came up. As a Human Artificer of House Cannith, with the Mark of Making (+2 crafting) and then picking Master Crafter (+4 due to INT), do they stack?

I realize the idea is, if you have the Mark, you are exceptional in your skill compared to others. If they stack, this appears to be so. If they don't stack, and you line them up with someone who also has a +4 INT bonus and Master Crafter, then well... you're not so exceptional.

I'll also throw in the chance I am missing something here that I am not recalling.

The person picking this was hoping that the Mark of Making gave some bonus to the fact that he was an artificer, and in his case, a tinkerer.

The question was asked, if they do not stack, basically making the +2 crafting mark bonus pointless, it is balanced safe to possibly house-rule it to instead add the +2 to his specific class construct creations only. We're not sure how or where to apply this if so.

Now, if I recall, he already has the defensive minions feat bonus that gives his constructs a +2 defense.

Jul 23, 2009 9:37:02 They do stack. I believe one of them isn't "your level +X" it's "your level is counted as X higher".

So one makes your level higher, and one raises the cap to X + your level. Therefore they stack.

Also, giving your artificer's summoned creatures another +2 to defenses isn't balanced at all. That'd be a total of +4 to all defenses, static, all the time. Nothing would be able to hit them with any sort of regularity.

If you want to give some sort of bonus, I'd say add +2 to the healing or temp HP given with Healing Infusions.

Master Crafter: When you use the Enchant Magic Item ritual to create a magic item, you can create a magic item of your level + your Intelligence modifier or lower.

Hmm. I'd say that they stack.

Jul 24, 2009 19:16:07 I would have thought they would anyway, if you wanted to take the Master Crafter feat to get the superior bonus to crafting, it would be stupid if you take the Mark of Making feat and lose it's mechanical draw.

You could create some very powerful items for the level with that combination, but then it is limited in that they'd only have so much gold to spend.

Thematically it makes sense too, House Cannith crafters are generally more skilled but then you have Master Crafters of House Cannith who are even more awesome.
