As the title states, the end of a significant chunk of the current campaign I've been DMing ended with the destruction of an artifact leading to a collapse of the ring of Syberys. I have a good idea how this affects/continues the plot and a fairly good idea of how this will affect all of Eberron, but I wanted to bounce the idea off of the forum and get some opinions. For various reasons, the area around the artifact completely blocked divination magic.

What will the dragons of Argonnessen do?
The dragonmark houses?
What will the various religious groups make of it?
The Inspired?

Basically, I want to cover my bases and get some ideas for the next branch of the campaign.

Cheers!

Well, off the top of my head, I'd say House Tharashk will probably freak if the shards fell the Eberron. This will be the single largest mining/gathering opperation of Syberys shards ever, so they will be trying to snatch up as many as possible, considering how they are the rarest shards. They'd probably pull anyone with a mark of finding back to the house, as well as any and all supporters to lead the largest expedition ever. I'd say there would most definatly be some fights breaking out, and the price of the shards may actually plummet once the market is flooded with them.

It collapsed? Doesn't that mean every single Siberys Shard up there plummeted down to Eberron at once? Of course they may be in a decaying orbit rather than instantly falling to Eberron which gives the PCs a deadline to restore the Ring of Siberys or there could be planetwide devastation due to tidal waves and such.

Such an act would of course take that epic sort of magic only the dragons could do. Or the Rakshasa Overlords.

Well the Dragons are going to FLIP the F out. That seems to me to be on par with the Giants screwing with the planes and pushing Dal Quor out of phase. And we all know what they thought of that. I'm sure the Ring of Siberys must be integral in interpreting the prophecy. And if divination is not a possibility at all I don't think most Dragons would wait to send agents. I'd say we'd see a massive flight of Dragons, many from the Light of Siberys headed to whatever location divination could lead them towards. The area may be warded from divination but the Dragons might still be able to find that what has occured involves a device in Xendrik or Sharn or something. Maybe even that the PCs have something to do with it. They just have no clue what yet but they aren't going to sit around and wait for answers.

The Houses will want to mine all that while at the same time being very afraid of what it could mean that the Ring has collapsed and there will most likely be reports of the Dragons moving en masse further scaring the S out of everyone.

Religious groups? Some sort of cataclysmic event no doubt. The Sov Host church would probably split along different lines with some thinking it's just a disaster, others saying the end is near and some thinking it's a good sign that the Sovereigns have sent these shards to Eberron for some reason.

The BoV will claim some sort of major victory against the evil sovereigns.

Jaela Daran will issue whatever proclamation the Flame tells her. Perhaps it knows more than most do about what has occured. Or she may be just as in the dark and urge calm while the Flame investigates.

The Druids will rush to Oalian for answers. If he has any at all is up to you. Many druids would probably feel this is bad for Eberron. It seems unnatural that the whole ring should fall at once rather than bits at a time as it has always been.

The Inspired hate chaos and change. They also hate being caught unawares. Many might fear it is a harbinger. That surely the turning of the age must be near with such change sweeping Eberron. They will freak the F out too. Those that wish to move against Khorvaire will grow in voice.

Right, first of all I presuming we're brushing over the inevitable TWK that this would cause for the sake of the storyline. Tharashk is either very rich or out of business, as these things won't need the mark to find them. Xen'drick has probably been massively de-forested, so that's going to cause trouble

The market price of Syberis shards, and more importantly Syberian magic items are going to plummet. More importantly though, there's going to be a lot more dragonmark enhancing items out there. Depending on how you want to go, I think those clauses about neutrality that were included in the Mark War peace are probably looking quite shaky now...

Whether this is a good or bad thing for House Tharashk, they still have plenty of buisness in hunting other resources (like other types of dragonshards) to work on.

Another issue: When the Heart of Siberys fell, it destroyed the kingdom of the Qalbarin Elves. Hope there isn't another gigantic city-crushing dragonshard up there. (Not only could it crunch Sharn or, worse, Flamekeep, but after that you'd have to worry about every sinister cabal coming out of the woodwork to claim it.)

Also, remember that small, obsure bit where it says the twelth moon wards out forces from beyond the stars? Well, what if the ring was Eberron's last line of defense.

And just as a shout out: That's a lot of debris.

Good points, all. As a side point, all of the ring has started to fall, but not all of it has as of yet. A large number of shards have fallen and obliterated a swath across Xen'drik and ostensibly Argonessen as well. No shards have fallen over Khorvaire at this point and the vast majority have fallen a good distance from Stormreach as well.

This is, definitely, epic magic, though the PCs are nowhere near that level and have only ended up in this position through the aid of a deity (though they are not necessarily aware of which god). This intervention is about all that's keeping them off the divination radar as well; more mundane sources of information will still likely lead interested parties to seek out the group. One of the PCs is intending to publish a book about the circumstances leading up to the collapse of the ring, which would probably be a bad idea...

A cohort of dragons are already enroute as are representatives from the Houses. The party will likely already be out of the area by that time and have their hands full with other threats. A war between the dragons and the Houses is a possibility depending on how the campaign goes, with the Inspired and Rakshasa likely getting involved at the fringes.

Tidal waves are likely, yes, but the entire world will not be destroyed. No Endor Holocaust.

The market price of Syberys shards is about to plummet, though the PCs are set to make a tidy profit if they are the first to make it back to Stormreach...we'll see how they do at unloading them without attracting too much attention. Of course, larger dragonshards are going to attract a lot of interest and there will likely be a number of eldritch machines popping up.

Hrm, I hadn't considered the druids. It might be interesting to bring them in, but the party doesn't really have any connection to them at the moment.

Strangely enough, the collapse of the ring in this campaign is definitely a good thing, as it was created as a prison for a profoundly good being. Of course, the PCs have just found out that Khyber is another part of the prison...
