I still have not gotten my Eberron PG... but with its release I thought I would start a post about what characters people are dying to play (once they get a chance).

A House Tharashk half-orc bounty-hunter rogue (brutal scoundrel) with the mark of finding.

A warforged artificer-Juggernaut named Gizmo.

An elf assassin (class released next month) with the mark of shadow (not sure which of the two houses I would want to be a part of yet).

A human dhampyre paladin of the Blood of Vol.

A human or deva avenger of the silver flame.

The other two characters I want to play rely on the Players Handbook 3 preview mechanics:

A talanta halfling barbarian-ranger hybrid character with a feat to gain the beast mastery class feature.

A valkoor drow barbarian-ranger hybrid character with a feat to gain chain mastery.

I intend to play an Avenger as my first PC, but I'm torn between a handful of possible characters.

Shifter Avenger of the Silver Flame The rp potential of an ordained shifter priest of the Flame is profound.

Kalashtar Avenger on the Path of Light These guys are just cool. I find them a little less versatile, though, because I think a Kalashtar would be crazy to ignore the threat of the Dreaming Dark in order to adventure with a disparate bunch of hooligans fighting for some other cause.

Deva Avenger of the Silver Flame This guy, unlike my shifter, would likely be unaffiliated with the modern-day church. I sort of envision him waking in Krezent, and finding his way to civilization. That involves logistics, though, that I haven't fully settled upon.

Tairnadal or Valaes Tairn Avenger following a spirit of the past One of the Valaes Tairn would fight for virtually any cause, afterall, as long as it was in line with his ancestor's story.

I still want to play a Lyrandar rogue, even though it saddens me that martial characters get no love from the Mark of Storm (until they get high enough level to snag a lightning sword, at least).

A half-orc inquisitive in the style of classic blaxploitation films.

An impeccably well-dressed gnome druid who wouldn't dream of doing something as uncouth as carrying a weapon. He just turns into a badger and gnaws your spleen.

A dwarf fighter inspired by Cosgrove from Freakazoid!

Amazingly after not getting to PLAY in Eberron for 2 years (I've DMed in Eberron until March of this year) I get to be a player in two different groups playing Eberron just as the 4e books hit, Yay me!

So these are both characters I've been dying to play.

Originally convieced as a 3.5 Hexblade one of my characters is a Karrnathi Arcane Close Combat Specialist (Swordmage), who was selected due to Karrnath's state mandated aptitude testing (as per Five Nations) as having the right kind of mind for arcane instruction. He's been specifically trained as a counter to Aundair's Knights Arcane whom he hates with a deep seated burning passion... but is otherwise a typical Karrnathi son of a dairy farmer.

The other is a Talenta Barbarian I've been dying to play for years. Sadly back in 2004 I scoffed SCOFFED at Eberron, I thought it was something it wasn't, my friend got me to read the book by telling me 'the halfings in this setting are dinosaur riding barbarians... but I ended up running, the few games I was a player in were centered more on nior than pulp and he never fit the group so I'd make something else. So yes I've been wanting to play this character for FIVE YEARS! A Marked Ghallanda scion that grew up in the wandering in and is now a Blademark (since the DM is centering the campaign around retired blademarks and I wasn't going to shelf this character again! So yes a Ghallanda heir joined the blademarks).

Still I have tons of others waiting in the wings. Which is good I have a tendancy to die.

A recent creation in my mind centers on an Avenger of the Sovereign Host, with a heavy bent toward's Aureon. The holy charge of his order would be bringing the law to the uncivilized world at large. He's seek those that broke the basic and most fundimental laws (not unlike The Boondock Saints "Do not kill, do not ****, do not steal, these are principles which every man of every faith can embrace.") His Oath of Emnity would be listng his opponent's crimes, then pronouncing sentence. Race I haven't settled on.

A cleric of the Silver Flame, a seriously good guy. No angst, no corruption, no overzealousness. A compassionate, caring, good soul, just trying to do what's right and save the world from supernatural evil. And would flavor his Lance of Faith like a piece of art I saw on these forums where a silvery flaming bow sprung from their hand as they fired the spell. I like the imagery.

A shifter warden from the reaches, he'd have ties to the Wardens of the Wood most likely. I'd play him as lazy and laid back for the most part. He'd like to lounge around in the sun all day if given the chance. Something of the Crouching Moron Hidden Badass trope where he'd be 'the idiot' until there's any actual danger wherein he'd fight like a freaking beast.

A Medani inquisitive, likely a wizard, or perhaps an artificer. Someone who uses magic all the time, but if he actually has to use divination magic as part of an investigation considers it a personal failure.

Personally, I'm looking to revisit some of my old favorites.

My Talenta halfling who combined a love of the hunt with mysticism and ritual and a close bond with his clawfoot. I'd like to see what I can do with this character using the Beast Master ranger and ritual caster.

Then there was my Dhakaani Goblin of the Sharrat Khesh who was maimed and cast out due to clan politics and was looking for an act or artifact that would redeem him. His main shtick was supposed to be a prosthetic arm he'd fashioned to replace the one that was cut off. It'd have sharp metal claws and little compartments for caltrops, smokesticks, and other goodies. I'm thinking of going Monk and multiclassing into Artificer for the alchemy and Self-Forged paragon path.

Finally, there's my Gnome agent of the Trust with a Men in Black type feel; cleaning up the messes the players left behind and knowing a little bit of everything as well as having some of the skills to back it up so you're never quite sure what his past is. I plan on going Bard and abusing the heck out of the multiclass and retraining skills along with Student of the Seven paragon path.

A few concepts pop up in my mind...

A human ranger/avenger(The Fury) from Cyre who was serving his country as a scout in the Cyran military when the Day of Mourning happened. His family managed to escape the spreading disaster by fleeing to the nearest land, which unfortunately was Valenar... He is adventuring to refine his fighting skills, and has vowed not to rest until those amoral wretches(the Valenar elves) are wiped from the face of Khorvaire, with their precious ancestral weapons destroyed as a final insult. There is, in his his mind, no valid excuse for the wholesale slaughter of cyran refugees that happened that day, and he intends to participate in the coming retribution...

On a more lighthearted note..

A kalashtar monk who left Sarlonna out of disinterest in his race's cause... and interest in Khorvaire's wide selection of alcohols.:D

The Silver Skull/Arn Castill. Human swordmage who worked with House Denith as a merc and House Tharask as a bounty hunter. After getting a Silvered Skull mask from his dying father he realizes he has to carry on his father's tradition of protecting the innocent from supernatural forces of evil and become the SILVER SKULL! Now he and the Skull's Sentries patrol the streets of Sharn investigating supernatural happenings and righting wrongs.

Muttyra. Goblin Sorceror (wild) that works as a Inquisitive in Sharn. He has a ton of sneaky thief-like abilities and has a "I don't give a crap" attitude. With alot of Streetwise and the Connected feat he will be pretty good at finding out things in a city. Plus everyone just calls him "Mutt" for short.

wow, where to start. I'll just state a few favs.
a changeling male rogue impersonating a female human since he was 8 or so. "She" was trained as a cyran spy, sent to Karrnath. After the Mourning "she" was so emotionally dissurbed he couldn't keep up the disguise. Fled Karrnath when his cover was threatened. Wandered for a year or so and took on some different forms, none of which he could hold up because all he knew was that cyran. Now lives as an adventuring reality seeker only changing form when it suits him as he tries to find out who "he" is.

A Jorasco 'marked field medic (cleric of Boldrie) would had such bad shell-shock that he couldn't maintain his marriage and left his family and the wealth of his House behind after he found out he just could heal anymore (performance anxiesty and flashbacks) lives day to day as an alchoholic and dreamlily addict until he finds out that in the middle of combat all his masterful healing skills return. Now he's an adventuring alcy.lol

Valenar ranger heir to a warclan of the elven realm. His sister falls in love with the son of a rival warclan and they urge my character to help them. I agree for my little sister's sake and convence our father to give them his blessing. They're then swept up in interclan politics my father's killed and my sisters future husband is accused of the murder. He's made to fight in the arena and my sister stands by his side and battles with him. They are both slain and Valenar become a joyless and dangerous place for my character so he leaves and vows to the spirits of his sister, father, and brother-in-law that he will get revenge.

I also have a realy cool gnome chronicler of the Korranberge Chronicles in my mind too. He's a bard with ties to House Sivic. He's got a wide readership and has been covering not only the Last War but discoveres in Xen'drik (some he had a part in) and other places throught the world for over forty years. His wife is a member of the Trust which he only knows 'cause that skilled (though he hasn't told her he know she has suspicions) and he's simple adventuring because he loves to see what's next and then tell others. Also, he wants to be set for an early retirement.:D

I'm most likely going to play the valenar and the halfling.

My list of characters I need to play one day

Architech 4 - Warforged Cleric of the Becoming god. (See Godforged, 3.5's Faiths of Eberron)

Abel Kessl - Human Cleric of the Blood of Vol. True Believer in the Blood of Vol's public message.

Dexter d'Cannith - Human Artificer, Mark of Making. Immoral experimenter. Following in Merrix d'Cannith's footsteps.

A pacifist Warforged Cleric of the Silver Flame called Scripture of Steel. Still haven't gotten around to play him.

An assassin for House Tarkanan with an aberrant mark.

A Trust agent.

A stargazing Wizard, maybe an Aerenal elf, who lets fate decide his course in life.

A duur'kala.

A orphaned wild kalashtar barbarian/wilder with anger management issues.

A Valenar melee cleric (maybe multiclassing into avenger) struggling with the fact that his patron ancestor was a vicious, traitorous, murderous criminal. I'll have to pick up Skill Training (Intimidate) at some point... "Viyar Erais would cut off your limbs one by one and leave you to die here. You should be grateful that I am granting you this chance," (removes veil), "to speak with me, and not her. Make your case quickly."

A warforged Brutal Scoundrel rogue named Catch, built and trained to infiltrate enemy outposts, assassinate a target, and acquire enemy intel... now finds that his skills are best put to use as an inquisitive. Preferably, this would be alongside a partner PC, such that Catch would form the muscle of the pair while still providing useful inquisitive skills.

A Talenta halfling of any sort, really - preferably with a dinosaur mount or animal companion.

A dwarf with the Mark of Warding, once a locksmith, now an artificer. His not-inconsiderable assets were frozen after the Last War for reasons he has been unable to get a straight answer about; the best he can figure out is that his choice of clients during the War made him some powerful enemies...

An orc Gatekeeper druid or warden who is going out into the world to hunt down as many aberrations as he can, and who stridently urges the party not to rest any longer than is necessary, not while unnatural forces still threaten the world. Why is he so unwilling to waste time, and does it have something to do with the odd discoloration on his left arm?

An Aereni wizard, specializing in necromantic-style magic (possibly multiclassing warlock to fill out the list) and keen on achieving something that will earn him the right to become Undying.

An Aundairian swordmage who was in training to become a Knight Arcane when the war ended, he was honorably discharged as part of Aundair's token disarmament and sent out into the world with a head full of military theory, a blade coursing with arcane power, and not a whit of real-world battle experience.

Also, pretty much every single idea someone else has posted in this thread.

I am also kinda surprised that the Mark of Storm doesn't do anything for non-Arcane characters. I mean, it could at least let them do a daily or an encounter where they blow back enemies (push X squares).

Personally, though, I really want to play an Inquisitive. Hell, I actually want to play House Medani now! They can actually do something! But, Medani or not, I want to play an inquisitive. Trench-coat-wearing, cigar smoking, gruff, demi-alcoholic guy who hates injustice.

Indeed. I hadn't noticed that, yet. This would've been a perfect (and obvious) application of the Mark of Storm. I know it's actually appeared in that fashion in at least one novel series. Oh, well.

The way you describe this guy, I immediately picture him as a tough-as-hell half-orc. Maybe he has Tharashk blood?

I loved the inquisitive pictured in the EPG (p155). The location of the picture, and his crisp attire, imply he's a scion of Medani.

A Lyrander ranger multiclassing in wizard or sorrcerer. When his airship was flying over Xen'drik it crashed into the jungle below. He and part of the crew managed to survive. They were captured by the Sultar (The fire worshiping ones) Drow and lived among them for three years before they repaired the airship (thanks to the Sull'at's firebinding). He now wields to Drow Longknives. House Lyrander as him explore Xen'drik because of his skill and knowledge of the area. He owns a black-and-blue airship called the Storm's Ashes.

I am also kinda surprised that the Mark of Storm doesn't do anything for non-Arcane characters. I mean, it could at least let them do a daily or an encounter where they blow back enemies (push X squares).

Of course I might do a little Homebrewing along these lines and get read of that whole multiclass "Arcane X" thing. :D

Anything new to DnD is immediately weighed in my mind as to how it could fit into my vision of Eberron. This was my immediate thought for Revenants. With a little reflavoring, this is a done deal. It's not high on my list of PCs to play, but it's definitely something of which I'd thought.

Reading the artificer today I started thinking up a character. maybe the next time I get involved in a nior campaign.

An informally trained artificer who operates out of the bad part of town. His home/base of operations would simply be known as 'the lab', he does jobs without asking questions for pretty much anyone. Be it patching up thugs dragged in by their friends, performing arcane services for the local inquisitives (freelance arcane forensics), fixing things that need it. Doesn't ask questions, and confidentiality is assured.

eh, Barbarian only has a handful of lightning or thunder attacks, most are tied to a Rage.

Sorcerers are the clear mark of the storm winner, followed by swordmage, then bard (strong on the thunder not a lot of lightning) then wizard (solid mix). Warlocks might actually come in behind the warden and the druid (vestiges have a decent amount of thunder). Artificers look like strong candidates, probably equal to a bard.

The Primals are sure to pick up some slack when Primal Power comes out.

The divines are sorely lacking. Martial doesn't even make it to the show.

OK, the barbarian was a stretch. The Druid and the Warden are good choices though.

Anyway, the character I'd like to play is a changeling bard and later chameleon with some experience in adventuring. He's the only survivor of his original group of adventurers and he feels that his friends and comrades were cheated:they had the potential for some much greatness and it was stolen from them. He'll give them a second chance, becoming them and making sure that their deeds would be well-known across Khorvaire. Through the changeling they would live again and achieve the glory they deserved, even posthumously.

Oooohhhhh, this thread... Just reading the responses has me all fired up to play. Too bad I'm always the DM... So many character concepts floating around in my head right now...

1. A Eberron-ized version of the "Hack & Lash" human Tempest Fighter|Ranger w/ Whip Training MC I posted in the char op forum (my only posted concept there). Khopesh + Whip, Mark of Finding, skills = streetwise, stealth, perception, nature, heal. Set him up as a bounty-hunter type. Permanent 5 o'clock shadow, cuts the hair from his head with a dagger (which he never uses for fighting, but does also use as an eating utensil, etc).

2. A human (battle) Cleric of the Silver Flame with extreme nationalist views. Very much an 'ends justify the means' type who comes off as LG in Thrane, and very much seems to operate in very dark gray areas outside of Thrane. That's not always reflected in his actions outside of Thrane, but it's definitely a theme in terms of his thinking--he's not running around hacking everyone to pieces or anything like that, but his extremist views color his perceptions of the world heavily.

3. Human battlesmith Artificer with the Mark of Making. A company guy, but one whose loyalties are tied to a sense of security resulting from his membership--despite his virtually non-existent status with House Cannith. He'll jump through hoops, and will tend to bend his moral lines more on behalf of the House than he would doing something of personal interest. To outsiders, he would likely come off as a little arrogant. To other House Cannith members, he comes accross as dedicated--just shy of fanatical. He's also a 'field' guy, and not someone content to hang around in a lab--although he's still a little on the geeky side. He's out there trying his best to use his talents to 'hang in there' with the types of guys who he has always secretly admired--specifically, rough-and-tumble martial types. Always trying to prove his worth to his House, and his grit to his martial companions.

I gotta admit, I've been smitten with the Artificer from the EPG (p45 and the backcover) since I first saw her. She looks more than a bit like my wife, honestly, though my wife is still much prettier. That may have something to do with it.

She's an heir of Cannith born in Stormreach, as I've conceived her. Her father was a Cannith, and life brought him to Stormreach (for a purpose I've yet to create). He married a local woman, against House wishes, and fathered the girl we see on page 45. She, too, manifested a dragonmark.

The disdain in which the House held her parents' relationship colors her opinion of and releationship with the House, and provides a convenient reason for her loose ties with House Cannith-- and her resultant freedom to adventure.

I have to admit, this is the first time I've truly wanted to play a Leader class. A dragonborn Bravura Warlord has sounded fun, at times, but I'd really like to play this Artificer. I'm a guy, who rarely chooses to play female characters, and I still really want to play this character. The Artificer is an awesome class!

I'm currently playing a half elf bard sky captain from Eberron. I hope she lives long enough to reach the Wind-rider PP. (so close!!!!!)

If she were to die (spit spit, knock on wood), I'd like to play a tiefling assault swordmage/wizard with the Mark of Passage from Ashtakala named Darkchylde. She was originally born human, of House Orien. However, she was kidnapped by cultists seeking to sacrifice children to their fiendish masters, the rakshasas. However, one fiend saw great magical potential in her (incl. latent dragonmark) and made her his apprentice (in hopes of using her to eliminate his competition). Many attempts at corrupting her innocent soul was made by teaching her magic of the blackest arts. She resisted as much as she can to no avail. The process resulted in her soul sword: cleaved from her very soul, untainted and pure. Once the soul sword manifested, nothing prevented her physical body from changing into a more demonic appearance. A pair of horns curve out from her brow, grew a devilish tail, and cloven hooves become her feet. However, as long as she has the soul sword, her form remains as human as possible with the exception of tiny horns peeking out.

One thing I find rather funny with Eberron is that, usually when I think about the character I'm going to play in there I rarely think about the Class it is going to be, but firstly I think about the concept.

For instance, I'd love to play a Lyrandar half-elf, regardless if it's going to be a bard or artificer or rogue... or sorcerer... or...

Then there is the kalashtar. Paladin? Avenger? Maybe Invoker? I don't think I actually care, I'd just love to play the racial concept. (ALthough I might change my mind if/when the Soulknife shows up).

Ahh, well, there are obviously those concepts I want to play that are quite easy to define the class:

The hobgoblin tempest fighter. (To match that cool looking dual wielding hobgoblin mini)

The Cannith artificer. (Just because I love the intrigues behind their house.)

A House Orien Swordmage.

It's a sad thing to know I probably will never get to play half of those concepts...

A House Orien fey pact warlock, who uses his charm and wits to find "shortcuts" across Khorvaire.

A House Thuranni/Phiarlann "puppeteer," who uses arcane arts (illusion, artifice, summons and familiars) to approach adventuring as performance art. With marionettes. (Catch phrase: "Pull the strings!")

A changeling druid/monk adherent of the Path of the Perfect From, dedicated to imitating everyone and everything.

Sadly, I'm probably doomed to be always the DM, never the player...

(ALthough I might change my mind if/when the Soulknife shows up)

The Soulknife already exists! (sort of...)

One of my players is playing a WF Scout Soulknife. By which, I mean a small-sized warforged avenger. Avenger is actually a great fit for soulknives; just switch divine to psionic, and BAM - Soulknife class. Just have them use normal weapons, but describe them as blades of psychic energy - my player's going to have a magic javeline that he's going to flavor as bolts of psychic energy he shoots from his severed right hand.

Well.. my concept i'd really love to play (but shamefully im an Eberron DM, not a player :P) is the following:

This Warforged was only recently created when the Treaty of Thronehold was signed and all efforts of War stopped. His regiment was told to hold untill further order, but no further order ever came. The entire regiment of new warforged stood there for days, weeks, waiting for an order.
As his cousins around him became more and more aware of themselves they started leaving because they realised they were forgotten, he still stood there and loyally waited for his new orders. This went on for a few months, after which he was the only one still standing on that forgotten field.
He stayed like that untill the most unlikely of creatures came to him. A young wolf, injured from a fight with the alpha male of his pack, walked passed him and collapses nearby. Being trained in first aid, his 'programming' activated and he patched up the wolf. Only after that, he realised his entire regiment was gone.
Since that day, he has travelled, with his only friend and companion the wolf he gave no other name but Wolf, looking for his lost regiment or at least his superior officer for new orders.

In game terms: He would be a Warforged Beastmaster Ranger with a Wolf pet.

As a character, he will be the kind of inhuman logical Warforged, constantly looking for his regiment to get his new orders. He does not understand the current time of peace and what it means for him personally. He would join adventurers only if he feels they can help him find his former regiment or his commanding officer. Problem is, he doesn't know the name of his officer and warforged cousins or even remembers how any of them looked like.

His name, not sure.. he will probably start a campaign even without a name, simply saying: "I am Me, and this is Wolf."

If I have no chance to play him, I'll turn him into an interesting recurring NPC for the PCs to meet :P

Changleing Artificer. He is an inquisitive that dabbles in many things as a necessity to solve crimes.

I am contemplating having him bear a dragonmark (don't know which) that he tries to cover up with his many identities.

Githzerai Monk - I've been interested in how the Gith fit into Eberron for quite some time (not enough info in the 3E books to satisfy me), so I'd like to see how they do now that they're actually a viable 1st-level race. I statted up a 5th-level githzerai monk to be a short-lived NPC in the game I'm DMing, and he's quite fun.

Dragonmarked Human Artificer - Manx d'Cannith, talented alchemist and your typical party-boy noble. Plays like Lando Calrissian, if Lando had an eyepatch and enjoyed slumming as a flashy bartender at the local adventurer's tavern.

Warforged Warden - Or as my wife likes to call it, "the Transformer build". I mean, they're a construct that turns into animals and other objects, how would YOU RP that? Now I just have to avoid screaming "TILL ALL ARE ONE!" every time I charge into battle.

Dwarven Invoker of the Silver Flame - Sometimes, the best things in life are set on fire. Silver fire, that is. FLAME ON!

This is funny. I came up with a similar idea on Monday after an Eberron game...I think it went something like this:

I Laugh.
Girlfriend : What is it?
Me : No. You'll Hit me.
GF : Just say it.
Me : Ok. New Character Concept. Warforged Druid. Primal Predator, looks like a T-Rex.
Other Friend : You have a T-Rex?
GF : And what's so funny about that?
Me : His first line would be "ME GRIMLOCK! GRIMLOCK SMASH PUNY GOBLINS!"
Friend : OH God That's Awesome! *laughs*
GF: *Hits Me*

Well, it seems like my "must play" list has been cut down to one of four choices: Elf assassin with the mark of shadow, half-orc rogue inquisitive with the mark of finding, or a warforged artificer named gizmo.

I really wanted to make a kaleshtar avenger, except that all the utilities that match the sort of character I want to play are possessed not by the avenger but by the rogue, and I don't really want to make a hybrid character until they are fully play tested and released in the PHB 3. So, that concept is getting pushed down till something next year.

In the meantime, I finished my half-orc build. :P

Now to wait till they update the character builder so I can build the other two characters. :D

I'm currently playing a Swordmage as a Knight Arcane from Aundair. Just began swtiching him to Swordmage/Warlord hybrid, to better reflect his tactical military training. Besides that I intend to play an Artificer who's a Professor at Morgrave currently on the run and living under the radar in Stormreach.

Ok, so, I sat down and built Gizmo. Dear lord that character is amazing! Totally want to play him asap. Artificer multiclass fighter with the kensai paragon path, who uses a craghammer. Pure warforged battle-ficer. A very cool character. Once I actually get a chance to play, I definitely think that is the character I will end up running with.

A human boy Rogue with aspirations of being the world's most daring and successful pirate--too bad he's such a nice guy that he'll never be able to do what it takes to be a true cutthroat. Since he's still a boy, he ought to count as small, so I'll stick to two daggers for now (I like two weapon fighting feats anyway). If for some reason he counts as a medium sized character, then a Rapier and parrying dagger for swashbuckle value. Probably will go for Artful Dodger, but thinking about Brutal for the Riposte Strike.

This concept was made when my DM got fed up with hearing about how many characters harass Jaela. He told me there was no (socially acceptable) character concept that would allow for such an in character action.

I plan to prove him wrong...in style.

In before that's still really creepy or "Keith would not approve."

Orc Primal Guardian Gate-Keeper Druid (Guardian of the Living Gate Paragon path)

Aerenal Elf Vestige Warlock who has made a pact with the oldest Deathless of the Undying Court, those who have passed beyond a physical form.

A Kalashtar Paladin/Monk of the Path of Light.

In order to best assist my fellow players, I've moved away from the Avenger class, though some of the above options could see play down the road.

We need a true Striker, and the Avenger isn't going to cut it, so I've decided upon a Valaes Tairn Ranger. My DM and I pored over a few things, today, and he's agreed to a couple of homebrew modifications.

My "Elf" Ranger will actually be a reskinned Longtooth Shifter, mechanically speaking. The Longtooth Shifting power will be renamed and fluffed as Aelar's (my elf) channeling the might and resolve of his patron ancestor. (This concept is the biggest reason for the reskin. I'm sort of smitten with the idea of his channeling his ancestor's spirit.) Aelar will be a bit stronger, if less fleet afoot, than most of his kin.

Also in the name of fluff, my DM has tentatively agreed to allowing me to swap out the Two-Blade Fighting Style mechanics for the Tempest Technique mechanics of the Fighter class. This will allow me to keep pace, mechanically, without wielding bastard swords, or the like. The Double-Scimitar, the traditional weapon of the Valaes Tairn, will be Aelar's weapon of choice. [With the 1d8 base damage that I assume will be granted via errata]. He's far from an optimized Ranger, but he's going to be fun to play (and that's what this thread's about, right?)

I'm pretty excited to play this character, regardless of how the mechanics shake down, as I never did get to play a warrior of the Valaes Tairn in 3E. He has some historical ties to the Dhakaani, via his patron ancestor, and the early published adventures (which we intend to use) will feature Dhakaani allies and opponents, so that really dovetails nicely.

Goliath Paladin of Aureon, he'd bean inquisitive in the Columbo vein (if Columbo was 7'tall) play himself off as a clumsy, absent minded, more than a little dumb, then come back with his detailed perception and insight into the investigation. And of course have a REALLY BIG SWORD. The trick is to make everyone else at the table question whether he's using obfuscating stupidity or is genuinely an absent minded genius.

I'd like to revamp my human duskblade from 3.5. Born and raised in House Orien, he felt a stronger kinship with his non-House friends. When he was old enough, he ran away from home and joined the Knights Arcane to help his homeland. After the war, he became an adventurer as he had to interest in belonging to one of the House guilds. Since he was unmarked, and of little importance to the House, he was pretty much given free reign as long as he didn't embarrass them.

Originally I had planned for him to go duskblade / heir of Siberys. In 4e, I think assault swordmage would be the best fit. Either hybrid or multiclass wizard would finish off the mechanics and flavor he originally had. With the changes, I might give him the standard mark of passage late heroic, and take the d'marked paragon path. Unless an heir of Siberys mark appears in Dragon before I play him.

The other character I'd like to play (again) is my 3.5 sorcerer/stormcaster (from Stormwrack). Member of House Lyrander Mother was the captain of a wind galleon, father her navigator / ship mage. He was born on board ship and spent most of his life at sea or on Stormhome. As he had a natural talent for magic, but no mark, they pulled strings and had him sent to The Twelve for advanced instruction. There he joined his master and his master's crew and assistants doing artifact recovery work from various places around Khorvaire and Xen'drik. The airship he was on flew through a storm late one night while returning from an expedition in which he found ancient evidence of dragonmarks. He woke up from a nightmare to discover the mark of storm burned into his chest. He never told anyone about the late manifestation.

This would be a real easy conversion to storm sorcerer with the mark of storm manifesting at 4th level. (Instead of 3rd in his original incarnation.) I'm torn on which paragon path to take though.

I've never liked Goliaths, and don't intend to include them in my Eberron (unless as reskins), but I like this idea.

I never really liked Goliaths either... until I read the bit about them in the EPG. The explanation that they originated on Xen'Drik, and migrated to Khorvaire a long time back makes a lot of sense. I suppose it may not to anyone who played Eberron in 3e, assuming there were no Goliaths in that iteration of the setting. Coming into it from a cold start, it makes a lot of sense to have them, especially given the past prominence of giantish peoples.

Plus, I'm really fired up about the idea of a Goliath Hybrid (Earthstrength) Warden | (Infernal) Warlock serving as an antagonist or NPC in a game. He'd have a twisted reverence of denizens of the Dragon Below, and assign himself to be their servant/'protector'. Good times.

At the moment, this is the easiest question for me:

The preconstructed characters Keith Baker will be handing out to us tonight.

I have no clue what it's gonna be, and basically that's the point i want to bring across: Characters are not something I'm dying to play... I want to play certain settings, adventures... Characters just have to fit in and fit me, and i can easily do the second thing - adaptability should always be high on your list as a roleplayer.

This is only a slight divergence from the topic at hand. It's tied to my past posts, at least. Plus, I'm excited, but this is probably enough to start a new thread. ;)

Our party is starting to shape up, as I find out who is playing what when our campaign starts next month. So far we have an Artificer of House Cannith (I willingly parted with a concept of mine that another might use it), a Deneith Fighter, and a Lyrandar Storm Sorcerer. To go along with the 'marked, we also have a Melee Ranger of the Valaes Tairn.

The fifth member has yet to be nailed down, but the player says he is leaning toward a divine character, for what it's worth. An Invoker would probably be a good fit, but we'll see.

That is quite the convergence of dragonmarks (assuming any/all have 'em). I wish I had an Eberron game to play in. The best I got is a Ravenloft game with an Eberron character. At least the DM was gracious enough to give us a chance to get my elemental airship back up and flying again.

On a slightly related note, what non-standard 'mark races would you (everyone here) allow to have a 'mark? As I mentioned in my post on page 2, I'd reflavor the race itself before giving them the dragonmark. (Ie, a human with the Mark of Passage gets corrupted by fiends/demons and becomes a tiefling.) I even thought of genasi as the living embodiment of dragonmarks, instead of just being elementals. Their racial "markings" could be the lines of a particular 'mark covering their entire body! (ie storm/windsoul genasi = Mark of Storm)

You lucky dog I am jealous! Have fun, and post us an update on what you got to play!

actually, it was most of the time a changeling bard (the player who should have played it got sick and left earlier), the face of the group and it was a pretty inquisitive evening. And just to add some interest, this was the most mainstream character of the evening.

But that's as far as i will tell you, its not like we signed an NDA, but Keith is still out there for many months to come and will likely play the same adventure for at least a couple of times more, so no spoilers from me. (we were the 23rd group to play this, so, if everyone just posted like 1 sentence, you'd likely have most of the one-shot adventure by now)

What irks me most, is that with my Vicious Mockery, anyone else could come up with decent punchline, and I did not. And maybe by coincidence, maybe by fate, it missed a lot.

Well, he's moved on now to his next stop, we really should have bought tighter manacles.

This is a quite a convergence of 'marks. It kind of reminds me of Keith's novel City of Towers, in that way. I only know the Artificer's backstory in great detail (since it was my concept), but this lot always come with well integrated, "just right" backstories. The Lyrandar sorcerer and I are thinking about a connection of some sort in our backstories, as I'm playing a Valaes Tairn warrior of Valenar.

We don't start Eberron till level 5, the game is currently level 2. He's a SNPC* as I have only 3 players, and they need at least a 4th character to cover the 4 roles.

Best airship pilot in Eberron...except for the fact that he's a maverick, doesn't want to work for his House, and is a pervert/womanizer. I've tried to give him a vaguely Jack Nicholson voice with the horndog character of Quagmire.

A Warforged Monk that spends his Heroic tier unnamed and refusing to be named, insisting that he hasn't found it yet. Over the course of the Heroic tier, he comes to realize his purpose in life, and once he hits Paragon, he realizes that he is destined to oppose the Lord of Blades and names himself Speaker of Souls. His epic destiny is, of course, Dispossed Champion, and he will go on to champion the cause of warforged rights in the setting. For centuries to come, people will remember the warforged philosopher who defeated the Lord of Blades and proved to the world that the warforged are more than just weapons.

(I imagine that in the game where Speaker of Souls is being played, the DM will make the Lord of Blades a recurring villian, and make him in truth a much bigger threat than presented, possibly just the mind of an ancient warforged warmachine from Xen'drik. The Lord of Blades would be Speaker of Soul's 30th level campaign ender, possibly when it is revealed that the Lord of Blades started the Becoming God religion as a deception, to give himself a gargantuan Level 34 Solo Soldier body.)

I'd love to play a traveling writer for the Korranberg Chronicle, probably a gnome bard with a Mark of Scribing for some extra background with House Sivis.

I'd do an adventure journal for my group written as newspaper articles, varying between news reports when the events of the adventure are socially/politically/financially newsworthy and "The Adventures of So-and-So" when they're not (or when we're supposed to keep things secret). He'd write everything under a pseudonym (something pulp adventure-y with a rhyme somewhere, like "Jack Blackstone") and usually leave himself out of the story except for things like "A bystander stated..." or "A House Sivis expert reported..." to maintain the appearance of journalistic integrity.

Sadly, I probably won't be in an Eberron game any time soon unless I'm the one running it.

This guy should be a welcome addition to any campaign. I hope you get to play him someday.

A chronicler for the Korranberg Chronicle would be pretty cool....it can fit with a lot of classes, too....you'd just have to explain why you can kick ass and take names.

Indeed. It shouldn't be to hard to explain the KATN* capability in a world that's just emerged from a century of war. There are a lot of other angles, as well, least of which is that a chronicler of this caliber had best be able to handle him or herself.

*KATN shamelessly stolen from Richard Marcinko's autobiography Rogue Warrior, wherein he muses on the possibility of a KATN, Inc. that specializes in the kicking of asses and taking of names.

KATN? I like it. You are right, though.

Hah. I met Marcinko once, at my ROTC battalion's Dining In. I shook his hand, and he asked me if I knew where that hand had been. I responded with, "I'm assuming you washed it, so it should be ok...." He also called us, "The *******s who care."

Hah! It's nice to know he really is that freakin' crazy in real life. There aren't many like him. I don't think the world could handle too many like him. Rogue Warrior is probably the most entertaining autobiography I've ever read, and that's saying quite a bit.

KATN, Inc. actually sounds like an adventuring party.

I want to play a Half-Elf Star Pact Warlock/Master of the Starry Night/Harbinger of Doom, with the aberrant Mark of Madness. When his mark first appeared, he began hearing whispered voices--something he assumed was normal for the dragonmarked. Long story short: he believes his dragonmark makes him a living conduit to Xoriat, and that the Daelkyr manipulated him into causing the Mourning. Now he channels his guilt, shame, and self-hatred into a mad quest for vengeance against them.

This is an idea I've had on and off for a while and I'd have to do it under 3.5 since 4th doesn't really give me a good enough feeling about pulling it off.

A human cleric of the Soverign Host that can best be described as channeling Tommy Chong, especially from the 70's ;)

Well, of all the character concepts I had, the one I ended up playing is this: Talanta Halfling Beastmaster Ranger with a Clawfoot for his beast companion. Will heavily multiclass (maybe even paragon) into barbarian. I've got a pretty sweet back story written up for the character as well.

3.5
  • Warcrime - Lawful Evil Warforged Fighter/Juggernaut with a Clawfist. (See the entry for Kray in the voyage of the Golden Dragon.)

  • Raxis the Red Tiger - Shifter Barbarian/Fighter with Razorclaw and Beasthide Shifting. He was an ex-player for that shifter sport "insert name". He ended up getting to aggressive and ended up killing another player. Now, he goes from bar to bar drinking away those memories with Gaethed and Tak.

4th
  • Gigun Russ - Human Paladin or Ranger of the Silver Flame. (Paladin would be a Greatsword toting hulk. Ranger would be a fast and dexterous archer.)

  • Sovis Kain - Human Evoker of the Dark Six.

  • Gabrial Flint Dweomerstone - Gnome Wizard(Illusionist). A member of noble house in Zilargo and set to be married into House Sivis. Gabe wants nothing more then be out of such a commitment. Thus during the later years of the Last War he enlisted into the Brelish Military under a false identity and became part of the first diplomatic envoys into Droam. Of course, he fell in love with the country. Not for the monsters, not for the general lawlessness, but, because it wouldn't be the most likely place for his family to find him. He runs a small Gambling House in Graywall. Which will later be destroyed by the other PCs in a fight with Gnolls.

I don't know if anyone else came up with a similar concept as this one, but a new character popped into my head about 3 nights ago and I've been tinkering with the concept since then.

Tark - Half-orc Shaman. Protective Spirit Companion.

Tark is a member of the Gatekeeper druids, and spent his youth in the Eldeen Reaches. When he came of age, he was trained in the ways of a Shaman, but when his training was complete, he could not find his spirit companion. He searched high and low for many months until Oalian visited him in a dream. In this dream, the Great Oak told Tark that his companion was waiting for him amongst the Spires. Tark took this to mean that his companion was somewhere in the mountains and so set off on a long journey. Several months passed and Tark had still not found his companion when the Half-orc first laid eyes on Sharn. Knowing that this must be the spires that Oalian had spoken of, Tark made great haste into the city. As if guided by the spirits in the urban jungle, Tark made his way deep into the lower districts, until he found his way into a dead-end close. Disappointed, Tark turned to leave when a voice shouted "Where have you been? I've been waiting for you!" Tark looked around and found an Etheral Cockroach, the size of a wolf pup staring at him, and the Half-Orc knew that he had found his companion.

So, Basically Tark is a Shaman, living in Sharn, whose companion is a large Roach Spirit. Tark says that the spirit claims to be an aspect of the Primal Scavenger, and indeed, Tark seems to do well enough for himself, living off of other's leavings. All of his powers will generally be re-flavored to reflect this roach affinity, for example Tark's version of "Spirit of the Healing Flood" would be "Spirit of the Healing Swarm". Instead of the spirit of the Great Flood appearing to drown his foes while soothing the pains of his allies, a giant swarm of cockroaches erupts from the mouths and wounds of his enemies and scramble up the legs of his allies to stitch their wounds closed for them.

I've had a number of ideas, some more developed than others, but one that keeps popping back up: an eladrin battlesmith artificer from Pylas Pyrial who believes that if he can forge the most perfect sword that has ever existed, he will be able to slice open the boundaries of reality and return his people to their rightful home.

Half Elf star pact warlock from House Lyrander studying at Arcanix (or the other Aundair university). His studies have lead him to a rare understanding hidden in the stars, and he seeks to further this knowledge in any way he can. A stay at the Koranberg library, or a trip to Morgrave, or even a first hand mission in to Xen'drik. What he wants all this power for is still unknown.

I don't have a name for him yet, but he's the main pc I want to play at the moment. I have several NPCs I've been looking at using, unfortunately so few would work in the same campaign, but most of them could be adapted into pc's without too much work.

I have an idea for a Warforged Warlock, who was literally created the moment the Mourning struck. Instead of a ghulra, he has a gaping crack in his head that mimics the Glowing Chasm in shape. His name, in fact, is Chasm. ;) I want to go with a Fey pact, both because the Mourning may have a tie to the Fey (hence the Eladrin spires), and because the Misty Step boon seems like an awesome way to tie in the Mourning mists to the character.

Now I just need to figure out his motivation for adventuring...hmmmmm...

Elarabin d'Sivis, a dragonmarked heir of House Sivise who worked originally in House Sivis' prophecy study branch [Can't recall the name] until he began to use arcane formulas he had no knowledge of [In additions to some he knew, but could never use well], and began thinking of himself as instrumental to The Prophecy. [Gnome Cosmic Sorcerer]

A human invoker of The Silver flame how on Rampartide 989YK began manifesting gouts of Silver Flame, and has spent time studying n Flamekeep before serving as a battle chaplain in The tail end of The Last War; currently an inquisitor using the new peace to hunt evils more destructive than Karnatthi soldiers. [Human wrathful invoker]

A human warlock from Aundair who was apprenticed by his rural villages' mage. However, the mage in question was actually the pawn of an exarch to a Rajah [What is the P word for that, again?], and towards the beginning instructed the mage to teach him various rites known only to said exarch which forever bound the apprentices soul to his Rajah master, to be used as a tool [Very likely using the PC as a way of manipulating a shred of Prophecy to bring the Rajah back to Eberron.].[Human infernal Warlock]

Those are just a few of the bazillion ideas I've formulated, and they are still in a rough format until I can pull out my Khorvairian calendar and determine birthdays, important dates, and from then can build up to more precise details.

I'm still pinning some of this down, like race (torn between human/elf/or kalashtar)

The basic concept is a person that is driven, but doesn't know what to. He has been know to have prophetic visions since childhood. He feels there is some great destiny out there for him, but he doesn't have the faintest clue what. He studied stories of heroes from all over, hoping to find inspiration. He took to reciting these stories, and has begun to dabble in magic connected to his sense of purpose. However after a strange visitor, an unusually small dragon, took an interest in him and now drives him forward. He still has no idea what the future holds, but he will find it and face it.

The character is a Prescient Bard with the Familiar feat(dragonling). He will become a Karmic Shaper and finally an Eternal Seeker.

Here are a couple:

Kern "Strings" Delgunn, kalashtar male rogue:
Show
Kern was born to a human woman, who happened to be a Puritan Flamer. When her village learned the true nature of his father's race, they burned him to death. By way of strange church rituals, the town church suppressed his connection to his kalashtar spirit.

He grew up troubled and unremarkable. His mother raised him to believe his father was "demon worshipping scum" and that Kern himself was demon spawn, and that if he wasn't careful, the demon would come back. It scared him until adolescence, when other children teased him about his fears. He started to resent his mother, her family, and his whole village.

Kern turned to crime for a thrill and found he was pretty good at it. Other kids on the street called him Strings because he never missed a cut to take a purse. His violent behavior and growing skill with a blade led him to becoming leader of a gang of the same name.

Strings eventually left, taking some of the gang with him, and got into the smuggling game during the war. He found that not only was he good with blades and muggings, but he had a knack for bribery and manipulations. Strings always could guess a man's price. Strings never struck it rich in black markets and always seemed to lose the money he'd made after a big heist, but that's how he liked it - living on the edge, fighting the powerful, and sitting in the center of his gang. Life was good.

Then the Mourning came - and so did his kalashtar soul. He suddenly had bizarre dreams of alien realms, memories of things he never did - and a strange mix of guilt and judgment when he stole or killed.

Four years later, Strings doesn't know who he is. On one hand, his newfound telepathic powers have been incredibly handy in pulling off jobs, and his henchmen never get intimidated by the guards any more.

But at night, he doesn't know how to live with himself. He feels sick when he thinks of the people he's killed. He sleeps as little as possible. Strings worries that the people of his village were right - he was born with a demon inside of him - or worse, his mother's spirit now lives in him, lecturing him for everything he does wrong.

Just though of this one, might be good if somebody is trying to justify a Revenant character. Real rough background, but you get the gist of where I am going with it.

Revenant (Genasi: Firesoul Manifestation)

Rough backstory. A champion of the Silver Flame finds himself battling a demon in the Demon Wastes. After an intense battle, he becomes overwhelmed and is slain, his body falling into a like of fire and lava.

A time later, Orcs are going through rubble along the Crescent Bay in the Shadow Marches. Often, earthquakes shake loose sediments beneath the lake, which can reveal precious stones and the occasional dragonshard. Along the shore they find a humanoid creature. This creature is beyond anything they have ever seen before. It is a creature of unusual form and shattered memories. Its body pulsing in crimson flames, as if it was born from the Dragonshards themselves.

"My mind fragmented and my body violated; though my flesh burns red, only silver flames will fuel my soul."

Just confirmed another Eberron game. Woot. Set in 986, before the founding of Droaam, I'll be playing a human turned tiefling swordmage who manifested the Mark of Passage. Anyanka was apprenticed to a rakshasa lord named Belasco who tried to use her but the plan backfired. She is now working for her mentor, Sora Teraza, as a double agent for her fatherland, Breland (As a Shadow agent). She looks human except when bloodied or in throes of ritual magic during which horns will curve out from her forehead and a tail grow from her back.

Just started a new Eberron Campaign setting, and we are beginning with the Ashen Crown.  Finally getting a chance to play an old warlord of the Ghaal'dar clan.  Retired from active duty for 20 years due to serious injuries, Gruundar has returned to adventuring because of the advanced medical treatments he has received in Sharn.

Here are some quick notes that I have in the personality and traits section on my character sheet.

Seasoned in the arts of war, Gruundar has been long retired from active service.  By the request of Darguun, he is exploring the land of Khorvaire on a mission of good will.  Rugged and serious, Gruundar at first perplexes his friends and enemies with his off-color remarks and casual drinking.  Yet in time, his friends learn his word and his honor are as unbreakable as his spirit.

I need to find a campaign to play in, i make too many charecters:

A scion of house Deneith who is a paladin of the blood of Vol. He believes that the dragonmarks are a sign of the inheirent divinity within their bearers. He views himself and all dragonmark bearers as gods, or as close as humanity can ever hope to achieve.

A changeling psion. His mother was a member of Daask, and used him from time to time in her work. On one such occasion his mother died, and he accidently killed a noble in his attempt to flee the scene. He went into hiding as a student at morgrave university. He maintained a few other identities, but his past caught up wit him before long. Now he serves the Brelish crown, to keep out of life in prison.

I had too many ideas for Eberron characters and finally settled for the guy(s) in my profile pic - Rask and Tarko, half-orc ranger(MC spiked chain) and tiger of the Eldeen Reaches.

Originally a hunter, Rask picked up his late father's weapon to honour the great fighter and joined the Gatekeepers in their quest.
