So what's Riedra's beef with the dromites?

Secrets of Sarlona never really explains why the Riedrans hunt down the dromites as though they were household pests.

Racism? Threaten the Inspired's monopoly on psionic powers... know the truth. Its one of those open ended things in Eberron.

Surely, Dromites are either useless to the Inspired, who prefer to eradicate them, or they are a threat to the Dreaming Dark. But why and how, that I don't know.

My guess is that since Dromites seems to live everywhere under Sarlona and that the mountains of Adar are well protected, the Inspired are trying to invade Adar by the Dromite's labyrinth galleries.

I think it's pretty clear.

In some areas, however, the general dromite reclusiveness is not the norm. The kalashtar made diplomatic inroads with them more than a millennium ago. Zi'til'natek, a city-hive under Adar, is loosely allied with the defenders of that land. Under the tundra, the few dromites hives have had decent relations with some dwarf clans.

They defend those whom the Inspired hunt.

Some dromite hives have taken a militant stance against all "surfacers." These extremist city-hives are few and number, and their citizens too few to engage in outright warfare, but dromites from these hives employ sabotage and guerrilla strikes against threats they can manage, from unlucky ogre nomads to Riedran Edgewalkers. Dromites of the city-hive of Nar'zix in Syrkarn are more insidious—they have begun trading tainted Khyber shards through merchants in Ardhmen and other settlements.

They are a threat to the security of Riedra and it's outposts.

I would argue that they are not controlled by the Riedrans. The Riedran's don't like things they don't control and since dromites are underground their own country.

Dromites are to Inspired as drow are to humans in stock settings.

Except the alignment's reversed =P
