May 25, 2008 20:21:10 Beyond the Race of the Eight Winds are there any major sporting events which take place in Khorvaire? I'm mostly hoping its been said somewhere in one of the books and I've just overlooked it, but if it hasn't then I guess this can be a brain storming thread.

It just doesn't sit well with me to have a region so rich in magic watching ye olde jousts for their entertainment. Certainly in Sharn any sort of real world sporting event could take place while the participants fly or fall in a form of a sky event.

May 25, 2008 20:30:24 Mmm... I know shifters play Razhak, which is a full-contact steal-the-flag game, players shredding their adversaries to ribbons :D (Claws and fangs help), and they also organise various on-foot races.

May 25, 2008 20:50:03 Right off the top of my head I know that Jousting is relatively popular in many areas. In Sharn specifically Arial Jousting, using hippogriffs or dinos depending on the area, is very popular. I'll see if I can think of any more.

May 25, 2008 23:01:55 If you have City of Towers, I always felt a new "sport" that could pop up is racing on sky-boards, or whatever they're called. Which is turn, would lead to gangs (ie. The front of the CoT book)

May 26, 2008 0:16:57 If you're asking about specific, celebrated contests, like the Olympics, the Super Bowl, or the Kentucky Derby, then to my knowledge, no. The Race of the Eight Winds is the only one I can remember as a named sporting event. However, any of the nations might have their own traditional "grand match" of a popular sport.

Dragonhawk races and jousts would be as popular as the horse-based varieties in Aundair. The same would likely be true of griffins in Thrane, since there are references to griffin-mounted Silver Flame paladins. There could be a "friendly" annual aerial joust between elite units of the two nations, with rings of feather fall provided to participants.

New Cyrans might still celebrate an annual Cyran tago competition formerly held in Metrol. Karrns could hold an annual Conqueror championship to name the "Grandmaster of Galifar."

I can also see a lot of fun being had with the concept of a semi-annual Equinox Eve Gatherhold Dinosaur Round-Up and Rodeo, where Halfling guachos show off skills like clawfoot-busting, swiftfoot-roping, and the ever-popular "anything goes" barrel race!

May 26, 2008 9:51:39 i think that Valenar would do a house races around the nation. So the people in the races have to live off the land and kill anything that attack them. And if you want to get some fighting in there you could have that it is ok to attack someone in order to get ahead, but not when they are not on house back or with out a sword

Ok, dinosaur rodeo is the best idea I've ever heard. And it makes so much sense.

Races of Eberron got two feats (Dinosaur Hunter and Dinosaur Wrangler) that would be perfect for halfling dinoboys. (Cows aren't really common, so... :D )

It might be the more "native" aspect of the Halflings, or the colorful patterns, or the use of bolas... Or it might just be that "Dinoboys" sounds like a bad cartoon from the '80's. :P

or Warforged vs. Karrnaths undeads, that battle could go on for a very long time.
