| #1naturaxDec 21, 2008 10:10:23 | Here's the situation: a prophet of the Lord of Blades has dominated Merrix d'Cannith and learned the location of the original Creation Forge in Xen'drik that House Cannith stole the technology from in order to make their own creation forges. The PCs are in Stormreach and are a couple of days behind the bad guy, so in order to catch up to him they are going to have to steal not one airship, but also an extra elemental-bound Khyber shard and this is why: Merrix d'Cannith (who is helping the PCs correct the situation) is going to add the extra elemental-bound Khyber shard into an airship which will, temporarily, give it a huge boost of speed, but probably end up exploding after a couple of days. My PCs need to infiltrate the Lyrandar docking tower in Stormreach, gain access to the fancy new air elemental-bound airship there, and at the same time steal the fire elemental-bound Khyber shard from the other ship, and buy enough time for Merrix to lash the two together before they sail into the night, triumphant. One of the PCs is a super stealthy assassin type and he's the one who will be charged with infiltrating the fire elemental-bound vessel and extracting the Khyber shard. I want this to be an awesome opportunity to basically pull a Mission Impossible style scene, so my question to the boards is: what's involved in physically removing the Khyber shard from the vessel (without using any game mechanics in your answer) in order to make the scene challenging and dangerous? Wards and traps? Unstable magical matrix? |

Perhaps the hull of the airship is undergoing some work or was damaged in an attack and beneath the also damaged walkway/s that lead to the khyber shard there is mostly open sky. He better also remain stealthy. Guards on flying mounts pass by underneath. There HAS to be a difficult to find trap that will set off an alarm the instant he picks up the shard. Something not impossible but difficult to see before he sets it off. If you think a mad dash to the other airship would be fun. |

I'm looking for an excuse to use Storm Sentries (though I'm looking for fluff at the moment - the crunch I can easily figure out once I have a clear picture in my mind of the situation). They should be infiltrating the enclave overnight, since I've also said that it happens to be the night of one of the huge parties at Molou's Distillery that half of the town will be attending/working at. |

If it takes the PC too long to escape with the docked airship - maybe the SWAT (Special Warforged And Tactics aka the Iron Watch) team will get called. Warforged monks will rappel from the spire's top down onto the docking platform... |

Would you believe the PCs have recruited the Iron Watch to their cause? They are, after all, highly motivated to stop a prophet of the Lord of Blades from finding the original creation forge. I don't see why a small group of elite Lyrandar storm sentries couldn't do something similar, though. |
