| #1tlarhamSep 04, 2009 21:19:25 | This is a conversion of a 3.5 monster/race I created -- I think it has long since been lost, so I finally got around to converting it to 4th edition; this included a redesign for unique rolls, which expanded them a bit from their original purpose. The Khyberforged Ever an enigma, the depths of Khyber have produced yet another twisted mockery of a civilized race. These strange, aberrant versions of the Warforged have of yet only been rumored to exist -- often woven into the tales of adventurers driven mad after foolish descents into the shadows of Khyber below. While they seem to share the same basic creation as their brethren from above, the Khyberforged are distinct enough that even normal Warforged consider them to be something wholly (and terrifyingly) new. Lumbering through the dark with the creak of metal and groans of pain, this monstrosity flails at anything in its path, puss-weeping eyes wide with fury and exquisit agony. The whole of its form is thick muscle, raw and exposed beneath shifting plates of chitin and tarnished metal. Thick stitching flares through the sinew, pulling with each movement of the giant, and seeping blood and other fluids as it attacks. Khyberforged Brute TacticsThe Khyberforged Brute makes-up the front line of the mad cultists attack -- keeping enemies at bay while faster, more mobile allies strike from between or far away. A Khyberforged Brute uses its slam attack until sufficiently surrounded to use Sweeping Strike. If bloodied, the Khyberforged Brute unleashes its shared agony attack on the most recent attacker if possible. Cackling and gibbering from the shadows, this wiry nightmare strikes with unnatural speed and cunning, seeming to revel in the spilling of blood and the howls of pain illicited by its razored claws. There is little chitinous armor upon this smaller attacker -- their body more composed of steel and sinew for speed and strength. It crystal eyes gleam a maddening yellow. Khyberforged Zealot TacticsThe Khyberforged Zealot prefers to strike from behind a line of Brute or Soldiers, using their Dart-In ability to strike at the obvious leader of its enemies. If the leader is not a viable target, the Zealot will usually attempt to use Khyber's Nectar against the strongest opponent, sapping them of their strength. A Zealot will forgo self-preservation if it means they can bloody an enemy, thus unleashing their blood frenzy. Standing in the shadows behind its minions, this grotesque humanoid smiles a half-flesh smile beneath gleaming eyes. Tattered robes flutter open to reveal of mutilated form of twisted wire and flesh. Crystals gleam from angry, red sockets of exposed bone or from the cracks between stone and chitin armor. When it speaks its voice is shrill and piercing, sending a chill through the heart of all who hear. Khyberforged Despoiler TacticsThe Despoiler usually opens combat with Gibbering Wave, to catch as many enemies as possible with the power. While they do not shirk from melee, the Despoiler prefers to use its ranged powers to control the field of battle, using Khyber's Lance to slide targets toward its soldiers for more advantageous attacks. If surrounded, the Despoiler uses Dark Secret followed by its Dark Sermon the next round. Khyberforged Encounter GroupsThe Khyberforged are usually encountered in homogeneous groups, but they also serve alongside the other creations of the Daelkyr when commanded. 1 Khyberforged Despoiler |

Did the Daelkyr and their illithid servants take control of a creation forge? Did they capture true warforged and reverse-engineered them? Are they all corrupted warforged? Could it be that their resources came straight from Xen'drik ignoring House Cannith's work altogether? |

In my original drafts, they were created with a warped creation forge gathered from Cyre after the mourning. With the aid of a cultist rogue Cannith they were able to meld the Daelkyr creation machine (I've forgotten the name atm), and the Creation forge. I also liked the idea that the flesh components for the Khyberforged come from cultists voluntarily (Skirmishers and Despoilers), or by force (Leviathans). Here is the original text I wrote way back when: The Aberrations of Xoriat have been twisting flesh and warping minds for thousands of years below the surface of Eberron, each distorted version of a race more unnatural and corrupted than the last. It was simply a matter of time before the Ithilids and Daelkyr turned their dark eyes to the Warforged – a race created by the inferior creatures above. Fascinated by the creation of new life and convinced that they could do better, the servants of Xoriat patiently bided their time until they were able to procure the knowledge of how to build a creation forge. Constructed with the mad intelligence of the Mindflayers and Daelkyr, the Khyberforge was finally able to produce a creature more suited to its creators. Because of the chaotic and maddened nature of the Khyberforges, only a small percentage of Khyberforged survive the first few days of life – those that do become of the most valued servants of the Daelkyr and Mindflayers. --T. |

With a few fluff changes I feel like they could really work in my current game I have going, so if you don't mind I may steal them, heh. As a side note... how did you make those monster sheets look like they came out of the book if you made them yourself? |

One of my players is a warforged star pact warlock, and I've been trying to figure out a way to mix daelkyr and warforged...only to find you've created something much cooler than anything I've thought of so far!

You can thank my DM for the stat blocks -- he's whipped them up for me in the monster builder. When I ran them in my Eberron 3.5 campaign, I also used the Chaositech rules to add further layers of insanity. Good times, good times. -- T. |
