Alright, so I'm bringing my current game into Eberron (we were in the vague, undefined default 4e world before), and trying to figure out where we're going from here.

Some optional background info, for those who want it:
As it matters to part of the story, we got up to adventure 3 of the Scales of War path before coming here. The group just returned from an expedition to the Shadowfell. The retcons I'm making are as follows:

- Everything happened exactly as you remember it, except for the last 10 minutes of the last session.
- The Elsir Vale, where you have been adventuring, is in Cyre.
- The year is 994 YK.

When they return through the portal (which activated due to a (tremendously well-timed, for this story) multi-planar seismic tremor), the city they left is in ruins, and nobody is alive. They missed the Mourning by about 6 hours.

a)Concerning the draconic forces, apart from(duh) dragons, kobolds, Seren barbarians and sorceror apprentices are my usual choices. Are we talking about the Chamber, individual dragons or the Talons of Tiamat?

b) I don't use aberrations with the Lords of Dust but anything else you mentioned goes. I often pick Hellhounds and Nightmares(usually Zakyas on them). Guulvorgs, summoned help and the occasional bound undead might be approppriate.

c) I can't help you here .

d) Let's see...the dire consequences of the misguided players lead to agents of one or more(probably more) nations/houses/church hounding them. The Rakshasa has framed them and disappears almost without a trace.

Thanks, Ellorin.

a) Ooh, almost forgot about the Seren Barbarians. I also realised that I was missing one of the biggest ones in 4e Eberron, Dragonborn.

b) Good points. I probably will avoid aberrant creatures for the most part, then. Except possibly to represent some just-emerging aspect of the Overlords, perhaps.

c) No worries.

d) That... isn't a bad idea at all! My plans have changed a bit over the past few days, so I may not be able to use it, but I like it. I'm at minimum shelving that one for later use. Thanks!

This is a really cool campaign outline! Welcome to Eberron, by the way. You seem to have a really good grasp of the basics so far.

The idea of the Rakshasa eventually framming the PCs is a good one, and it could be an excellent back-up to your original idea of eventually making the PCs say "No."

That is, plan a few missions for the PCs, enough to get them at the level you want them to be once they start going against the Lords of Dust (Probably low-to-mid Paragon, since I think Rakshasa are high-paragon-tier monsters). Then once you're happy with their level, have them ordered on a more or less bad mission, like "Assassinate this Dragonmarked Baron". Give reasonable explainations for why Breland would need to have this done, like "This Baron is breaking the Korth Edicts and trying to wrest power away from the Five Nations." So it's still plausible and not Saturday-Morning-Cartoon-Villian-Mustache-Twirling-Evil. If the PCs finally refuse, you get your "Well you're no longer useful" reveal moment. If the PCs don't refuse, then they go on the mission and are framed. Win/Win for you.

Thanks a lot, man. Despite never playing in Eberron, I love the concept. I just still need to get used to the differences between running an Eberron game and generic D&D.

I've uncovered a few flaws in my original plan, already, but I love the encouragement.

Those are some great ideas for what they can be asked to do, too.
