But what if the truth is that the prophecy of Sarlona is not absent at all, but is instead hidden? perhaps the prophecy is hidden in some kind of psionic veil which is blocking the usual means of reading the prophecy and that it can only be read by using psionics, which dragons can not use without either going insane or dying, which might explain Gornath the Madwyrm who writes strange symbols on his caves walls sometimes. As for why the prophecy can be read in Adar, i'm guessing it's because the dragons and couatls used so much magic in creating that place that it might have torn a hole in the psionic veil and the prophecy was then revealed so everyone who could read. So what does everyone think of this theory? was thinking of maybe making an adventure out of it. |

Considering all the manifest instability on that landmass and the fact that it was absent in the Prophecy, I have always thought the landmass itself isnt from Eberron, that it's from another plane of existence entirely. For my campaign its a nice way to explain how humans got to Eberron, and the instability is Eberron as a plane fighting back. |

But there is a Lord of Dust burried in Adar, which is guarded by a large family of blue dragons. The coutl/feathered yuan-ti have had a strong pressence on the continent as well. It seems to suggest the continent was present during the war between the dragons and demons. Then again, maybe some parts are that old (Adar for example), while others are not... |

Dragon egg on my face for lack of cannon fluff knowledge heh. Would have to know more to speculate further then. Though I suppose that the landmass could have been summoned anytime during the Age of Demons, prior to the demon lords being sealed. After all, the demon lords are often equated with have nigh deific power (in standard DnD terms, as we all know Eberron varies in how it handles gods) and in order to defeat them, the dragons and couatl's must have had something close. Though to put the OP's question back to the forefront, I would say it's possible, but whatever is hiding it must be intensely powerful. You're talking about hiding prophesy that has often been described as something alive, and seemingly extends the width and breath of time and space in the Eberron cosmology. Honestly it reminds me of the "holes in the world" theroy of Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series. Basically people were born with no spark of magic whatsoever and as such couldnt be effected by magic, phophesy included. When a wizard or sorceress encountered such a person their five senses told them a person was there. But their ability to feel and sense magic around them told them there was nothing (literally nothing) there. It's ish like this that makes me LOVE Eberron. (edited for typo-though it probably wasn't the only one lol) |

I always assumed that dragonmarks, dragonshards, and prophecy marks only occured on the prime material plane. The prophecy isn't something that unfolds in Fernia or Xoriat or Dal Quor. Since the hanbalani are pulling Sarlona back into alignment with Dal Quor, they're also preventing the prophecy from manifesting. If the prophecy can be read in Adar (I don't remember this detail and don't have my Secrets of Sarlona in front of me) it could well be because of the absence of hanbalani. |

Despite Sarlona having Raja imprisoned in Khyber (Khyber seems to be geographically askew from the prime material plane anyway) and it being the land of the (missing) coalts; a planar shift for the origin on humans in Eberron is a spectacular idea. The war between the Quori and the Giants of Xen'drik concluded in the in a planar cataclysm that broght an end that society (I always thought of it as a larger-scale Day of Mourning). So, maybe in that time there were planar changes all across the map. I remember reading somewhere that it seems like Q'Barra might have once been part of Xen'drik. Perhaps the Sarlonan land mass expanded at that time and this expansion brought with it humans. (kind of the way that Abeir returned to Faerun bringing the Genasi). |
| #7Madfox11Jan 06, 2011 3:47:46 | Actually, the end to the society of the giants was not the cataclysm, but the dragons who stepped in to prevent the giants from using that type of magic a second time, but that is just nitpicking ;) |
