I mostly run stuff with plots tide to the Dragonmarked House, feeling thet are the real core of the setting. But, my players want a change. We have be struggling for a while trying to bring some of that old spark back to the group. My feeling is a well done Campaign is the best thing to new blood, which is so hard to find in my small city. I was trying to think of something both new and but still able to grab my players. We had mostly stuck to the standard races and worked out of Sharn or Stormreach. I was thinking of maybe trying the savage side of Eberron. I am know for a love of Dwarves and Goblins. I fact the Goblin history in Eberron is one of the first things that endeared the setting to me. I was thinking of running this new Campaign out of Darguun and having the PC try their hands at character that would be found there. I was thinking of how to run such a game and came up with a few ideas: first I wanted to restructure the Goblin culture a little I see them more like the Japanese of the Tokugawa Shogunate era. I the Goblins are rebuilding themselves after thousands of year of civil war/strife they need to from on culture and become "one" people again. The Premise my Campaign: Lhesh Haruuc filling the role of the Shogun, needs to due a few things before his time is up in the world to ensure that the nation he has reforged stays sharp and whole. First he needs start his own Dyenistie, Haruuc has no children he will need a worthy young bride to give him a son and heir . Second the Emperors of old came from the Dhakaani clans. Haruuc will have to find a figure head that can act as a new Emperor thus drawing in the Dhakaani clans in to Darguun as full and willing members. Doing this will give the Goblin Nation the stability and strength it needs to last and grow. Returning to the old ways is a long road and Haruuc knows this change will come slow but it can be helped along. Third Haruuc needs heroes symbols that he can point to as examples of the new Goblins. Heroes that act out of the good of the people not out of their own greed or the good of just one clan. First start but having the players make characters out of something like the oriental adventurers but with an Eberron feel to it. Then have them start by being summoned to Rhukaan Draal where they will meet Haruuc himself. From there they will be sent forth to find a bride for him and clues about the lost bloodline of the Dhakaan Emperors. I have a few side quest ideas I want to throw at them but nothing set in stone For an enemy, I feel an good campaign needs a storyline enemy I was thinking the Dragonmarked house and a few of the spy elements from the Five nations like the Queens Eyes, Dark Lanterns... I wanted to have them have to role play more then just combat with sword and spell. I like social combat and I feel the group has fallen into a period of hack and slash the last few years. So I also am think of having have to win over Hearts and Minds of the other goblin tribes out there. Well tell me what you think. Give me soem ideas too, and yes I have read the Legacy of Dhakaan book, I loved them and waiting for the third to see how things turn out. (Geth could kick the hell out of Drizzt Do'Urden any day of the week.) |

Not certain that Haruuc would want to place another as "Emperor" as that would mean that there are two centers of power--I think he would want to be Shogun AND Emperor. But the idea that he would like to find a worthy bride who can help him claim the legacy of the Dhakaani could be interesting... I think that maybe the Daelkyr in the Shadow Marches and the Demon Wastes might be an interesting foe for the neo-Dhakaani. After all, they brought down the Dhakaani in the first place... might a series of Cults of the Dragon Below be plotting to topple Haruuc's new Kingdom? Just a thought. |

That is why I see some similarities between the Gobliniods and the Japanese. Throughout history the Japanese Emperors only came from one family, no matter how powerful another Clan got they could only get the title of Shogun. The Emperor is a post filled by family bloodline that was made by the gods. Haruuc know this that is why he only took the title of Lhesh which is goblin for High General or War Cheif. The thing is it looks like most of my players want to come from the Dhakkaani Clan, which can work beause who better to find the bloodline of Emperors then warriors of the clan that once ruled Khorvaire. I want to use the Daelkyr as a main enemy when they get out in to place like the Demon waste, Droaam or the Shadow Marshes, but am not sure of the best way to intrudes them to the players as such. I want to have them digging around ruins of old Dhakaan so I may just have them pop out or have to them work in the shadows to attack the party through other means then physical combat. I as so want to have the other Nations of Khorvaire working in the shadows to stop this mission. An more unified Darguun is not a good thing for the remains of the Five Nations and will only lead to more war and death of the common races. One idea I had was for one of the first place the party is going to be sent for infomation on the bloodline is to Zilargo. Just Because the Gnomes are Gnomes that does not mean they know nothing about the Goblin History. Infact they know alot about it, being there from the begining watching and learning. The Ebeeron Gnomes are keepers of secerts and they have a grat way of finding out even the ones you forgot you knew. |
