| #1Hideous_PhidiasMay 19, 2008 17:46:30 | So we are deleting the forum now? |
| #2mort_qMay 19, 2008 17:49:59 | Looks like they're just rearranging things... but I've been wrong before. |
| #318DELTAMay 19, 2008 18:00:21 | -The FR Forums got merged together, now its Eberron's turn. Sorry folks this does suck! I guess its been a busy day today for whoever does this stuff. 18D ![]() |
| #4Hideous_PhidiasMay 19, 2008 18:00:45 | Deleting the different topic forums inside of the Eberron and Forgotten Realms forums is a bit more then just rearranging things. It is point less until 4.0 is out and people have started to switch over to it. The 4.0 Eberron books won't be out until next year. What about those of us who were using the old forums. |
| #5ieattrollsforbreakfastMay 19, 2008 18:27:22 | Nothing has been deleted as far as I'm aware, the Eberron forums have simply been merged into one. Given the relative amount of traffic on these boards at the moment, I don't think it's a bad idea. If traffic increases, we'll get another board. |
| #6makeshiftwingsMay 19, 2008 18:31:01 | I don't think the merge is a great idea. Some people will still be playing 3e Eberron while they're waiting for the 4e book to come out. This move seems almost seems like a "No more talking about 3E Eberron!" arrangement. I think that would be fair once the 4e ECS comes out, but right now, it's only going to annoy Eberron fans who are planning on converting their game when the new ECS is out but might not want to do it right away on their own. |

You can still discuss 3E Eberron mechanics here. It makes little sense to split the Eberron community by edition. Why have a separate 3E Eberron and 4E Eberron forums when the overlap will be so great? |
| #8makeshiftwingsMay 19, 2008 18:49:34 | You can still discuss 3E Eberron mechanics here. Mostly because it makes clearer implied lines in what people are posting about. If I go to the 3e Eberron forum with questions about one of the books, it's clear that I don't want any answers about what people are doing in 4e. If I talk about my campaign there, it's clear that I'm talking about 3e. If I go to the 4e forums, it's clear that I'm talking about 4e, and that everything we talk about is just speculation and house ruling. But now, every thread has to start with "This thread is about 3e" or "This thread is about 4e", and there will inevitably be tons of unwanted replies everywhere like "That's why I'm using 4e" or "That's why I'm sticking with 3e" or "Sorry, I should have mentioned I'm using 3e". Perhaps it seems like a minor thing to complain about, but I don't see what we're gaining by combining the two forums. I don't want to see 3e and 4e posts jumbled together; it just makes it more confusing. I'd rather have them separate. |
| #9EdymnionMay 19, 2008 18:53:09 | And so it begins... |
| #10ieattrollsforbreakfastMay 19, 2008 18:57:11 | Mostly because it makes clearer implied lines in what people are posting about. I think sharing the wealth of the community is worth having to clarify which system you are using. Most of the discussion here is system free anyway, and for discussion that isn't, most of the time it's going to be pretty clear which edition people are using. Given the difference in terms (paragon path/prestige class, for example), I don't anticipate too much of a problem. If you skim the first page of the forum now, it's pretty easy to tell which is which. Even if it isn't clear in the title (such as the Gnomes thread), the first sentence is usually enough. I can see one case that could be misinterpreted (the Mark of Death thread), but 1 in 25 isn't bad. |
| #11Hideous_PhidiasMay 19, 2008 18:59:12 | My feelings are this, I liked things the way they were but if we are only going to have one forum then put it on the main page with the rest of the campaign sets. |
| #12ieattrollsforbreakfastMay 19, 2008 19:02:41 | It appears we are the 'Skyway' now. It appears some of the community suggestions were taking into account after all, despite some fears :D |
| #13EdymnionMay 19, 2008 19:22:18 | I'll give 'em some time to see how it all settles out, but if we're officially reduced to a single forum for Eberron from now on, I won't be coming back. |
| #14octaviusiiiMay 19, 2008 20:30:14 | Yeah... this more than kinda sucks. Well, hopefully it's just being rearranged and not deleted. In the mean time, I guess I have to go find my links... Edit: merged??! MERGED!! But... but... the niches! |
| #15rageofthemodrons101May 19, 2008 20:32:25 | Gah!! This is hideously…merged!!!!!!:hoppingma ![]() ![]() :headexplo :raincloud ![]() ![]() |
| #16alediranMay 19, 2008 21:28:49 | FR boards were merged too. It took me seven thread pages to find one thread where I made a post just six hours ago. And they take forever to load. The FR members share your pain. |
| #17johnnyarkhamMay 19, 2008 21:32:27 | Well, they did have a post about impending reorganizations on all the forums for about the past 5 days. Aaand, if you've set up your account to automatically subscribe yourself to any threads you post in, all you have to do is jump to My Account/View My Subscribed Threads, and you're all set. Personally, I'm happy for any space given for free discussion of my hobby. Whether here or on some other company's site. The minor realignment of my bookmarks is really no big deal. |
| #18snarky_monkeyMay 19, 2008 21:50:05 | I have began a thread at this forum for anyone who would like to add their opinion about the current compression of the Eberron and FR boards. Maybe it will help. ![]() http://forums.gleemax.com/leaving.php?destination=http://forums.gleemax.com/forumdisplay.php%3Ff%3D695 |
| #19makeshiftwingsMay 19, 2008 22:36:19 | I think sharing the wealth of the community is worth having to clarify which system you are using. Most of the discussion here is system free anyway, and for discussion that isn't, most of the time it's going to be pretty clear which edition people are using. Eh, if that's your opinion. Mine is the opposite. We would have a great "sharing of wealth" if we combined every single subforum here into one gigantic forum. It would also be a huge pain to navigate, and I'd mostly be annoyed by the "wealth" of information that was getting in my way when I wanted to discuss only one specific thing at the moment. Forum structure needs to find a balance between grouping together similar ideas and separating things that are easily separable, so that traffic becomes manageable, threads don't drop off the front page hours after they're posted, and people aren't overwhelmed with topics they don't care about. I think splitting between 3e/4e is a good way to do it. It's worked so far. |
| #20ieattrollsforbreakfastMay 20, 2008 4:33:17 | What confuses me is why there is a cry out now, but no one said anything negative when Wrecan announced the changes here earlier, and Gamer Zer0 posted an announcement at the top of every forum. But anyway, I know it's not as easy to navigate as the old forums. Heck, I was the one who proposed a 3, and then a 2 forum system for FR and Eberron when we were told we'd be slimming down. But at the end of the day, the combined Eberron forums (4E and 3E) get just under 25 active threads per day. That means if you post a thread one day it won't fall out of sight very quickly, and unless you don't visit it again for days, you won't have to search through several pages of the forum. The same is true of the FR forums (though they get slightly more, I think 30ish was the last count). Alderian was exaggerating. |
| #21RedRiderMay 20, 2008 6:19:27 | Well there's no denying seeing the five forums (Six? Is the 4Eberron one gone?) collapsed into one was a bit of a kicker when I first noticed it. Then again, I don't think we're getting much traffic at the moment, so this saves me a bit of time. Perhaps the Mods could watch what kind of threads we make and make new sub-forums for the more popular topics. |
| #22ieattrollsforbreakfastMay 20, 2008 6:56:44 | Perhaps the Mods could watch what kind of threads we make and make new sub-forums for the more popular topics. The idea is that once a forum exceeds 50 active threads per day, it should be split up as necessary. |
| #23makeshiftwingsMay 20, 2008 16:50:21 | The idea is that once a forum exceeds 50 active threads per day, it should be split up as necessary. That sounds a little high to me. Sometimes I check the boards constantly, but usually I check in every 3 or 4 days. I don't usually go past the first page of posts. So I would be missing some threads that might otherwise be interesting. I know everyone's got different forum styles, but that's how I tend to do it, and I think I'd rather see more, smaller forums. Well, whatever, I'll learn to deal with it whatever they decide to do. ;) |
| #24elrodianMay 20, 2008 17:21:45 | Nothing has been deleted as far as I'm aware, the Eberron forums have simply been merged into one. i find this funny becaues it has taken be 4 hours to go thought all the pages with new threads that were created to day before it became one big forum and we might not have got a lot of traffic when there was five but that was becaues they was FIVE and now with them all together threads will be pushed back. And it has been a b**** to even see a thread. ![]() ![]() I have to say that i real dislike this and althought i real do not know how e4 will work and the differents between them are but i have to say that makeshiftwings is right we would have to tell if we are doing e3 or e4 and if people don't do this then people playing one or the other would not understand. Now it is said about shared wealth i am with makeshiftwings once more. Where would be so many information about e3 or e4 that there would be so many things and you would have to get thought the tons of stuff that you did not want or need. ieattrollsforbreakfast you ask in your post why people are crying. We are say this beacues we said it in a thread and people are normally on the Forum for information and to talk about Eberron so some people did not see the post. I pwesonaly forgot about but i found out when i got back from school and saw it for myself. |

I wasn't asking why people were upset, I can understand that, I'm just pointing out that the idea has been in discussion for a while, and few people have said anything against the idea until after it has happened. In contrast to the FR forums, the thread wrecan posted was actually pretty positive about the idea. |

In contrast to the FR forums, the thread wrecan posted was actually pretty positive about the idea. Well, in my case, I didn't see it being discussed anywhere. If I had seen it, I would have given my opinion that it was a bad idea. Where was it being discussed anyway? In one of the 3e Eberron forums? I'm not sure whether the fact that I never saw the discussion is a case for or against forum consolidation. ;) I think it might just be a case for posting in the right places... something about consolidating all the Eberron forums probably should have been cross-posted to all the Eberron forums, and stickied at the top. |
| #27ornitoMay 20, 2008 20:37:07 | I really don't anticipate there being much of a problem. Mechanics are only occasionally discussed, it seems like the majority of threads are all talking about background and different ideas and campaign plots. And none of that is really going to change with the next edition. FR is big on having some sort of world event to mark a new rules edition so things change in the world. Eberron's style is far more adaptive and its been stated that there won't be too much of a difference between the 3e world and the 4e world. Campaigns will probably still be viable. BBEG's will probably still be the same guys they were before. What gets talked about probably won't change. I fully expect to see threads like "How are you house ruling gnomes?" "How are you using artificers?" and "What would you expect for the Mark of Death" and all of those will probably be discussed long before the 4e ecs is released. |
| #28EdymnionMay 21, 2008 18:52:43 | That sounds a little high to me. Last I heard the threshold was half that, 25 active threads. Aka, enough that you have threads that were posted to today that are on page 2. Of course, IMO, thats rather self defeating. I used to cruise the Eberron boards looking for threads that interested me. Since the merger, the place is such a mess that I simply don't have the drive to weed through the junk I don't want to look at to find what I do. Hence, I don't see myself posting to threads as much. I know I can't be unique in that. So, if anything, the merger itself will artificially decrease the active thread count, as there will of course be people like me that just don't see the point anymore. |
| #29elrodianMay 21, 2008 19:34:42 | Last I heard the threshold was half that, 25 active threads. Aka, enough that you have threads that were posted to today that are on page 2. i have to say that you are right but i am still going to post |
| #30taskiMay 22, 2008 1:25:20 | A single forum for all your Eberron needs doesn't seem very helpful. I could see condensing People & Places with Cosmology and Monsters (the DM's forum), and Classes, Races and Feats, with Magic and Equipment (the PC's forum). These would mirror the split between the 2009 Eberron source books (DM book and PC book). The General forum should remain for those "Batman d'Cannith's Alignment if he were a Katana-Wielding Gatekeeper Wererat Paladin of the Undying Sovereign Blood of Valenar University" threads. |
| #31culture20May 22, 2008 21:15:23 | Heh, just be glad Eberron was merged with Eberron. Check out the Dragonlance forum. |
| #32elrodianMay 23, 2008 14:50:45 | OMG what did they do they put all the other world in to one forum that is soooo F*** stuiped. They might not get alot of post by them selves but if you put them in to one big Forum they are going to be push back sooo fast. Wooo this was a bad move all around. |
| #33ieattrollsforbreakfastMay 23, 2008 15:04:08 | Here's a thread people might be interested in: Forumwatch: Split or Merge? Wrecan is keeping a day-by-day count of active threads per day, with a weekly average. To be considered for split, a forum needs to have at least 25 active threads per day. That is, a thread will fall to the second page after 24 hours. Threads with over 50 are candidates for immediate split, no questions. Notice that this Eberron board currently averages 16 active threads per day. A healthy amount, and certainly not fast enough that things are difficult to keep track of. The Other Worlds and FR boards are looking more unwieldy though. |
| #34elrodianMay 23, 2008 22:07:25 | The Other Worlds and FR boards are looking more unwieldy though. Understatement. |
| #35snarky_monkeyMay 23, 2008 22:34:48 | I am so not thrilled by the fact that, because Eberron posters in general do not go into long winded diatribes about things that turn out to be way off topic, they are punished for it. The sub-forums made finding help on specific issues more easy and much more organized, especially if you wanted to search though the posts of that forum for help or ideas. I guess anyone who posts here should just rattle on and on and get into arguments over 4e more often, then we may get our subs back.![]() |
| #36EdymnionMay 24, 2008 19:08:02 | Or, we could just cheat. All they want to see is a bunch of thread activity. We could give them that. Actually... I'm going to go make a seperate thread for this. |
| #37elrodianMay 24, 2008 19:44:00 | Or, we could just cheat. We can just answer any thread that comes up. |
| #38EdymnionMay 24, 2008 19:48:02 | We can just answer any thread that comes up. And go dig up threads from page 2,3,4... to answer. http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1035891 I gave legit responses to enough threads to push the active thread count onto page 2, but its going to take everybody responding to these things and digging up/making more to get the boards split again. |
| #39elrodianMay 24, 2008 19:49:38 | i am on my way now just saw your other Thread |
