| #1pallin_rahlMay 13, 2009 14:31:51 | Has it been revealed yet: What in-game year / time-frame 4e Eberron is to be set in? ...will the info be presented for the same year as 3.5e Eberron? ...or are they advancing the world? I loved how in 3.5e Eberron they never advanced the world - leaving it up to the individual DMs/Players to do so for their campaigns. ...but with updating to a new edition, it's clearly a chance to jump the world ahead in time if they so choose. Just curious if there's any news yet. --- Sorry to ask something that's probably been asked before... but every time I do a search it just pops up a blank page for me at the moment (search worked fine for me before, just seems broken at the moment). |
| #2TalaeMay 13, 2009 15:41:23 | There is no time jump. The year is the same as 3.5 Eberron. |
| #3nthdegree256May 13, 2009 16:39:49 | Just to stave off confusion: you might see info here and there that suggests there's going to be a 2-year time jump. Ignore that. They were planning that for a while, but they've since scrapped it and announced that there won't be any time jumps. |
| #4NivedMay 13, 2009 17:55:53 | You will hear some who say that the fans (i.e. these boards) were shocked and appalled by the two year time jump (mileage may vary), and by raising a raucous (RABBLE RABBLE RABBLERABBLE!) call to arms. That we convinced them to keep the year the same. The way James Wyatt told the story at Gen Con was, shortly after the news was leaked Bill Slavicsek called James into the office and asked him to explain "Why Eberron needed a time jump?" Emphasis on the 'need', James couldn't give a reason beyond general desire to tinker with the setting, so Bill decided then and there to nix the two year jump. Because Eberron didn't 'need' it. |
| #5devlonirMay 14, 2009 8:57:45 | So this means that with the 4E PGE and the 3.5 Campaign setting, you have all the info you need to run a 4E game without finding new info contradicting what you already made in your campaign in the months between both books? That would be cool.. as I'm already preparing running a 4E Eberron campaign as soon as the PGE is out. |
| #6skrapsanMay 14, 2009 14:32:26 | So this means that with the 4E PGE and the 3.5 Campaign setting, you have all the info you need to run a 4E game without finding new info contradicting what you already made in your campaign in the months between both books? Pretty much. It might be a few corrections here and there to smoothen out certain rpugh spots. But nothing big. |
| #7pallin_rahlMay 14, 2009 14:52:23 | Do we know yet if Kalashtar will be introduced as a race in the 4e Eberron Player's Guide? ...without having the upcoming 4e PHB3, seems like they'd be impossible to properly include/play (well, except for that one guy out there that played a non-psionic-class Kalashtar ;)) You'd almost expect them to leave out the whole Kalashtar/Dreaming Dark shadow war until it could be done justice (next year with PHB3). ...which kinda stinks, I loved using the Dreaming Dark (and one of my players loved playing a Kalashtar). |
| #8TalaeMay 14, 2009 15:02:02 | It is speculated that it will be handled the same as Forgotten Realms handled races in the PHB2...they will get a flavor write-up and be stated later. It has also been speculated that we get the race as well, but no psionic classes until PHB3. |
| #9pallin_rahlMay 14, 2009 15:07:30 | ...would make sense, I suppose. ![]() However, maybe it's just me - but I can't see ever wanting to play a Kalashtar until PHB3 actually comes out. I'm sure statistically they'll mesh just fine with some existing class or another... but knowing their flavor and how I like to deal with them in my campaigns, they're likely going to be shelved for a year overall. I guess one saving grace is that, due to the nature of the shadow war ...you know, it being in the shadows and all ;) ...if no one cares to play a Kalashtar without the psionic classes, a DM can easily skip over the Dreaming Dark and their plots entirely (as they're not ones to make their doings known to those "outside" the shadow war itself). |
| #10nthdegree256May 14, 2009 15:08:47 | Well, the Dreaming Dark is definitely making an appearance in the 4E Campaign Guide. You can see a preview of some of the stuff they have here, including a level 14 Inspired assassin statblock - http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4pr/20090504 . I think I've also heard it said that they're going to make more of an effort to explain how to actually use a subtle organization like the DD in-game. As for Kalashtar, I'm 75% confident that they're going to be in the Eberron Player's Guide. Of the 4 new races Eberron introduced in 3.5, they're the one people seem to leave in Eberron the most (shifters, warforged, and changelings are all popular imports for other settings, including homebrew,) so there's less of a push to make them "core." I've also seen something where they talked about how they plan to give the Kalashtar a psionic feel and make them suitable for upcoming psionic classes, without confining them to a psionic class, which makes the concept of releasing them pre-PHB3 fairly sensible. On the other hand, they're a solid psionic race, and would only be somewhat surprised if it turned out that they held them back to fill out the race roster for PHB3. |
| #11DragolothMay 14, 2009 15:18:56 | With shifters in the PHBII I am guessing that warforged, changlings (dopplegangers), and kalashtar will all be included in PGtE. |
| #12davethebrave371May 15, 2009 9:05:05 | With shifters in the PHBII I am guessing that warforged, changlings (dopplegangers), and kalashtar will all be included in PGtE. They only did two in the FR book, so I imagine it'll be kalashtar and warforged, and then dopplegangers in a Dragon mag article. |
| #13lyranMay 15, 2009 15:04:30 | There is no time jump. The year is the same as 3.5 Eberron. This. I tip my hat to you, Talae! ![]() They only did two in the FR book, so I imagine it'll be kalashtar and warforged, and then dopplegangers in a Dragon mag article. That would be a shame. They have to put Kalashtar so that meens there will be one other race included (Hopefully three). |
| #14TalaeMay 15, 2009 18:29:23 | They only did two in the FR book, so I imagine it'll be kalashtar and warforged, and then dopplegangers in a Dragon mag article. I am unfamiliar with the details of the Forgotten Realms setting. Were there important races that were left out? I mean the variant Elves were done via feats, the Genasi were combined into one race, the Tieflings were there already and PHB2 was set to have many of the non-setting specific races. Did they miss anything? Kalashtar, Changelings, Shifters and Warforged were huge parts of the ECS. I can't see them leaving any out (despite the Warforged write-up in Dragon and Shifters being in PHB2). I hope they all get at least some flavor text write-ups and some racial feats and Paragon Paths. This. I tip my hat to you, Talae! ![]() |

Did they miss anything? Oh, I'm quite sure they will, but full write-ups will be left to the Warforged and Kalashtar, for sure. |
| #16_radagast__dupMay 15, 2009 23:42:26 | Oh, I'm quite sure they will, but full write-ups will be left to the Warforged and Kalashtar, for sure. Are you sure they won't do Changelings (Dopplegangers) and Warforged? And then do Kalashtar in the PHB3? |

Glancing at the statblock, I'll note that there's an important piece of errata there (which is corrected in the final book): the power "Dual Mind" only affects attacks that target the assassin's Will. |

That seems like a serious typo. It also seems like an interesting ability for a Kalashtar to have... |
| #19nthdegree256May 16, 2009 2:04:02 | Ah, good to know. I had been wondering about that when I first saw the stats. |
| #20HellcowMay 16, 2009 2:10:52 | That seems like a serious typo. Like I said, I checked the final text, and it's fixed there. |
| #21TalaeMay 16, 2009 11:14:44 | That is all that metters. Now to get them (or you;)) to accidentally leak out the Dragonmarked info... |
| #22davethebrave371May 22, 2009 23:22:47 | That is all that metters. Now to get them (or you;)) to accidentally leak out the Dragonmarked info... Patience, only a month from now and all (save DM info) will be revealed. |
