While dead, I wanted each of them to have a vision that progressed the story and gave them some motivation. Here is what I came up with for our Goliath Fighter that found and has been using a great sword Oath Blade for a few levels. It is written the way it is, all broken up, beacause it is supposed to be a dream sequence with quick flashes of information being remembered: ================================ You are on a battle field You smell blood, burning flesh, and scorched earth You are surrounded by dead bodies of demons and people of many races wearing white armor You look around and see the sky is full of fire and black clouds and intermittent white lightning Your eyes follow the lightning and see a female warrior, with black hair, lightning striking the ground all around her She wields a great sword with blue glowing runes etched in the blade and is clad in sparkling white armor with a red cape She is cutting down demon after demon and pointing out a new foe after each one that falls As she points, a blue rune manifests in the air before her and flies to rest on the head of the next demon At one point, lightning strikes her sword as she slashes at a larger enemy and it screeches in pain She is suddenly struck by a huge, black hand that seems to come from the dark clouds that make up the sky You look up and see 2 gigantic fiery eyes peering out from the darkness As the female warrior falls to the ground, you see a giant serpent engulfed in white flame flying toward the demonic eyes, white lightning coming from its mouth The clouds start to move, avoiding the serpent with unnatural agility and you can make out a huge humanoid figure blotting out the stars The knight stands up and jumps high into the air, a feat of obvious unnatural strength She slashes at the distracted entity and seems to connect with the blackness as her sword hits something solid Her eyes grow wide as she tries to pull her weapon free and you hear a low rumble that transforms into a deep laugh emanating from the sky As the demon’s arms rise to strike the warrior and the embers it has for eyes glow bright red, the serpent turns into a length of pure white flame and flies through the back of the black haired woman The sword ignites and the point where it enters the demon glows with a heavenly light Light pours from the warrior’s mouth and eyes and soon it engulfs her entire body The giant demon lets out an earth trembling roar as the white light grows larger and its limbs seem to be pulled in towards the wound Soon you can see the sky again as the demon is pulled further and further towards the sword and the being of light that once was the female knight In the last instant before the demon is gone forever, a tremendous force wave emits from the point where the sword entered its body The gleaming white armor is blown away into ash and the body of white light is also sucked into the fiery blade In the end, the battlefield is quiet until the clanging of a sword hitting the ground breaks the silence You can see the stars in a clear night sky and the only other light is a small white flame resting on the ground next to the sword Some of the other white knights that lived through the battle emerge from their hiding places, surprised to have survived They walk towards the white flame and hold a torch to it It jumps to the wooden bundle and a woman’s voice starts to speak “The shadow in the flame is defeated and banished from this place” Happiness grows on their faces and some are overcome with joy They carry the flame away from the battlefield, holding it above their heads in reverence, as you hear a low rumble that transforms into a deep laugh and only you seem to notice that it is emanating from the flame Your eyes are drawn back to the familiar sword, left on the ground, forgotten The other knights are far from this place as the sun rises and you notice a female warrior with black hair standing beside you She hands you her weapon, a great sword with runes etched in the blade, and says, “My name is Tira Miron, and you have a job to do.” =================================== I plan on turning the Oath Blade into an artifact that houses Tira's soul and the Silver Flame is the trapped Bel Shalor continuing his influence on the world through the newly founded Curch of the Silver Flame. I am obivously taking some liberties with the Tira Miron story. This player isn't a great role player and I wanted to try to incorporated some story into a familiar item that he uses to see if he will play off of it. Anyway, let me know your thoughts. |

Maybe you want to name that Oath Blade Kloinjer... and maybe you want to explain how it left the Cathedral of the Silver Flame in Flamekeep and how it reached a goliath fighter (which I assume is a follower of the Silver Flame). Do you want to introduce such a world-shaking battle against evil in your campaign? If you do, you can always get some Prophecy into the mix, and even add some faith crisis to the character. |
