#1 Cyber-Dave Sep 13, 2009 22:22:22	I have this character concept of an elf with a particularly strong tie to its mark of shadow. I was wondering what people thought about the idea of using the drow race to represent such a character instead of the elf race (I mean using the drows mechanics, not the drow fluff. This characters fluff would be purly a regular, white skinned, black haired, elf with the mark of shadow).
#2 jtrowell Sep 14, 2009 8:08:11	The Drow darkness racial power could be fluffed as coming from the mark, so it wouldn't be too far off, but if you're really trying to create a character with a strong mark of shadow, I would rather create an elf (normal race) assassin (the just released class, with *lots* of darkness powers)
#3 Omen_of_Peace Sep 14, 2009 9:45:22	I think it's fine - I had a similar idea a while back, before the EPG came out. Darkfire isn't very shadowy (to the contrary !) but I assume you'll focus on Cloud of Darkness.

Drows just work better as the assassin clas (mechanically speaking) then regular elfs do. And, I think that the drows powers fall far more in line with an elf who has been heavily influenced by their mark of shadow than the elfs powers do. I was just wondering what other people thought about using a drows stat block instead of an elf stat block to represent an extremally strong connection to the shadowmark.
#5 jtrowell Sep 15, 2009 10:33:30	If it is just for a mechanical advantage, I wouldn't do it. Elves are already very good assassins with their DEX bonus (and a very good racial power), I don't thing that using Drow stats would add anything really needed here.   If it was about using another class, but having a small darkness power for the theme, I could see using Drow stats for it , but for an assassin you will already have all the darkness goodness that you need.   Of course, it's only my humble opinion,  and if you really want to try this and your DM alllows it, you can.

#7 Demetri_Knighthawk Oct 01, 2009 18:50:50	IF your DM allows this, I would offer the humble reminder to avoid any drow feats that do not explicitly deal with your darkness power. It seem simple to say, but turning crossbows into high-crit D8 weapons would be assassin iceing, its not verry shadowy.
