Mourning's Taint[Multiclass Feat] Prerequisite: Character must have been to the Mournland (or survive the Day of Mourning) Benefit: The Mournland has twisted your being, you are slowly able to master the mutation and use the Mourning's Taint to your advantage. You qualify for the Novice Power, Acolyte Power and Adept Power (PH 209), treating Mourning's Taint as the class into which you multiclassed. You also gain one special trait (either the Spellscarred traits or other DM-made traits) Use the Spellscarred power list for the Power-swap feats. What do you think? Rekko |

Only issue I can see is the overt association of spellscars with spellfire, which as far as I know doesn't exist outside of Abeir-Toril. But that's just fluff, so it doesn't really matter. |

So, to prevent mistaking Dragonmarks with Spellscarred/Mourning's Taint, characters with Mourning's Taint, in my opinion, should not have a physical manifestation that looks like the present Spellscars. Maybe the Tainted could go without being marked at all, no physical manifestation. Moreover, renaming the Spellscars makes the DM and players using them in an Eberron game appropriate the concept for themselves. It gives it an Eberron twist. On the association of Spellscars with Toril, you are right, they are associate, and it is just fluff. In Eberron, well my adaptation, Mourning's Taint (or whatever other name) are associated with the Mourning and the Mournland. The fluff issue is already handled. OR, another idea, is to use the Spellscarred as the Aberrant Dragonmarked while we wait for a Eberron Player's Guide. This also fits very well. Rekko |
| #4AlasSep 19, 2008 10:34:12 | The visceral description of many spellcar powers would work well for half-daelkyr characters and aberrant marks, too. Distended jaws, acidic blood, sudden plagues? Yep, sounds right to me. |
| #5the_ubbergeekSep 19, 2008 10:43:03 | You know, in my head just appeared a random idea... Something like Spellfire could be tied to the Silver Flame force? |
| #6serphetSep 19, 2008 11:00:32 | remember that spellscars only appear when they're being used, at which points the line appears with streaks of blue fire emanating from your body. Easily not looking like a dragon mark. Or rather as easily mistaken for a Thay Tattoo in FR. |
| #7serphetSep 19, 2008 11:07:32 | Also, Spellscars often cause physical deformities. An example in the FRCG is a man who has one on his right leg, but that leg has become withered and unusable. If he gets angry, the spellscars begins to light up. If it gets fully lightened, the man falls to the ground in pain and covered in blue fire, the man writhing in pain. |
| #8the_ubbergeekSep 19, 2008 11:38:28 | Well, it seems like indeeed, the designer(s) worked well on making Spellscars as something different from Eberron's stuff. And it sounds cool, now. |
| #9ChrisTheSSep 19, 2008 22:46:14 | Spellscar powers also seem like a good match for spellstitching effects... t'would be nifty to drop one or two of them on the occasional zombie. |
| #10mystrichSep 19, 2008 23:46:57 | So, to prevent mistaking Dragonmarks with Spellscarred/Mourning's Taint, characters with Mourning's Taint, in my opinion, should not have a physical manifestation that looks like the present Spellscars. Maybe the Tainted could go without being marked at all, no physical manifestation. Well the Mournland is defined by it's grey mists. And a few "tainted" creatures that have been shown in the past are usually identified by this. You could have this replace the blue fire. |
