Valenar nobles?

May 24, 2008 22:56:31 So i have been reading the The People of Taer Valaestas and they realy do not talk about nobles. So are they the leaders of the clan (i do not think about it beacues they would work with their clans in battle) or is it the kings family. By the way why is he called the high king does mean that he is the high king of the clan leaders.

May 25, 2008 23:22:48 The title "High King" seems to indicate an over-all leader above autonomous sub-divisions. In other words, the High King is likely the overall leader of the warlords, but most likely has very little direct ruling power. Instead of telling the warlords what to do, he more likely settles disputes between them and co-ordinates their efforts in times of actual war. He would also be the warlord charged with representing the nation to other countries' officials.

This is all just a guess, but it seems to make sense given the sense of independence exercised by the Valenar war bands. They don't really want a country, after all. They've really only claimed Valenar as a foothold from which to strike out against the Five Nations and gather plunder and glory.

And to see if they could provoke the rest of the world into taking them head on, at least if you ask for my opinion. (sorry for going of topic there).

May 28, 2008 22:04:16 I remember reading somewhere that the "High King" was in fact a rotating position that all of the Valener war-bands took turns in that role. This would mean that deals made with one High King may not be recognized by the next.

May 29, 2008 3:29:55 Yeah I remember that bit of information too. But I think that internally the Valenar honours their High Kings and the deals and treaty's made by them. The deals made with the rest of the world is quite a different story. This ensures the survival of the country while still making it possible for the Valenar to raid whoever and whatever they want, just not each other.
