Vulkoor and the spiked chain...

Mar 05, 2009 23:22:57 I vaguely remember reading that the spiked chain was a popular weapon among the vulkoor drow. Yet, when searching the internet for pictures, nearly every vulkoor drow warriors uses a regular sword. So, my question is, is the spiked chain a popular weapon among their culture, or did I misread something somewhere?

Mar 06, 2009 4:03:15 You didn't misread. The drow scorpion chain is an exotic weapon in Races of Eberron. It's not exactly a spiked chain, but it's pretty close.

I doubt there'd be many elemental binder or umbragen drow wearing scorpion carapace armor and wielding scorpion chains. (Or ritually scar-tatooing themselves with scorpion venom)

Scorpions have no cultural significance to Sulatar or Umbragen, so they wouldn't have reason to wield a scorpion chain over a regular spiked chain.

Mar 07, 2009 3:09:01 For what it's worth, the Qaltiar drow in The Shattered Land and Gates of Night are depicted using the scorpion chain. While they view Vulkoor as only one among a host of spirits, in the Vulkoori/Sulatar/Umbragen cultural axis they would be considered Vulkoori.

Mar 07, 2009 9:58:39 Here is a question, must all "scorpion chains" be of the same size (smaller than a regular spiked chain), or could a drow warrior/barbarian use a larger sized "scorpion chain" mechanically identical to the spiked chain in the phb (I'm talking 4e here)?
