Warforged and Ability Damage??

Ok, from what I understand, Warforged are vulnerable to ability damage, and they also do not undergo natural healing. Now my DM interprets the 'no natural healing' bit as including ability damage. In other words, he has rules Warforged do not recover the standard 1 ability damage point per day. I searched through the boards and found a thread buried somewhere that suggested Warforged indeed do recover ability damage naturally. Thus me and my DM are kind of confused on the matter.

Now my question is, do Warforged indeed recover ability damage naturally? And, if so, what source material says so one way or the other?

As far as I can tell, it only states that a warforged cannot heal lethal damage normally, nowhere does it say that they cannot heal ability damage normally. Besides, if you really want to get technical, ability damage is not, strictly speaking, lethal unless it's con damage or wis damage (I think). Pages are pg.8 Races of Eberron, ECS 23. Though you will notice that the RoE wording is slightly different than the ECS.

The no healing bit only applies to lethal hitpoint damage.
WF recover from nonlethal and ability damage as normal. Its not something you'll find in any of the books, its a clarification from the designers given here on the boards.

Because otherwise, there is no way for a WF to recover from non-lethal or ability damage, meaning they would go inert pretty fast.

It is a kind of wierd rules situation. Warforged metabolism seems to work in such a way that one recovers from internal non-permanent damage normally, yet require physical repair for structural damage.

Speaking of ability damage and warforged, I actually had a situation this evening about which I came to this forum to discuss.

The party encountered mourners (Five Nations) and two members' wisdom scores were dropped to 0, one of these party members was a warforged. According to the DMG p. 290, a wisdom score of 0 results in the character falling into a deep sleep filled with nightmares.

Now, what happens when a warforged's wisdom drops to 0? Does it still have nightmares, or does it simply go inert? Might this be one of the only ways a warforged can dream?

They would just go innert, IMO.
You tend to have some good nightmares from getting knocked unconscious in the middle of a fight, but the WF don't have those either.

Hmm....I actually don't know about that. I mean, one of the kalashtar's special abilities is specifically immunity to dream-related effects, like nightmare... I get the feeling that though warforged don't sleep, they can still dream.

I'll have to check when I get home to my books, but I think WF have immunity to sleep effects, don't they?

Fixed the earlier post after rechecking RoE.

Simply put: Yes

Yup, checked it out when I got home.
Warforged specifically are immune to sleep effects. So, you cannot make them dream under any circumstances (anything that would put them to sleep short of damage automatically fails, and its specifically said that they do not dream or experience the passage of time while innert), so there is no reason they should have nightmares from this.

Just a side thought, I would think that going inert would be a tremendously scary thing to wake up from. Not knowing how much time has passed, not having any memories at all from it, just one moment I'm awake the next thing I know I wake up here. I would at least find it partly scary.

I think that particular bit has been discussed more than once around here, but that would have been a while back. Essentially, it was decided that the perfect torture for a warforged would be similar to that of a human: sensory deprivation.

For a warforged it would be slightly more simple than a human... just make him inert, make the building look older, make yourself look older, bring him back online in a few days. A couple disguise checks, and you can tell him whatever you want about the 'future'.

Well, warforged are Living Constructs so I would assume they heal ability damage naturally.
