This is just commentary, sharing it as I'm not 100% sure where its going, but the story was interesting and we went with it.

My players started off in Mark of Prophecy, a Human Artificer (tinkerer - this is important below), a Human Wizard, a Changeling Ranger, and a  Shifter Warden.  They were off to rescule Bren ir'Gadden and his "brother" Arin.

I moved the ruined tower a little closer to Cyre, and expressed this as the Mourning occured.  They discovered the prophecy mark, got the 4 stand at the edge of distruction thing, and all was going well... when the Dwarf makes a bad move, really bad, and falls unconscious.

Long play out, the Mourning hits, half the tower is engilfed in it, Bren and his brother are saved.  The dwarf is incinerated in the strange flames, his body now ash, a strange mist that swirls up and reforms a ghostly shape of him then fades.

So my son, formerly of the dwarf, is distraught.  I tell him not to fret, sit tight.  We start the second part of the adventure, 4 years later.  They (3 of them) go to see Bren in Sharn for a Mourning memorial.  Bren is wealthy, living large in Sharn, his brother Arin still quite comatose from the event 4 years before, he lives secluded, in constant care with his brother.  The players make a well places Insight, and something is amiss with Arin, his caretakers are not right, but so far no signs of foul play and to their best guess, Bren is not the wiser to this strange feeling.

The shadow creature appears, a battle ensues.  My son plays Bren for this part, and they eventually defeat it.  As the creature fades, the prophecy mark appears and left in its wake is a dormant worforged, generally normal in appearance but clearly "unalive".  Investigation turns up nothing, Bren enlists the help of the Morgrave University.  The rune markings on the warforged, while originally normal looking, turn out to be angelic script under closer eye and skill.

Adventure continues, my son continues to play Bren, as they begin looking for the creator (this BTW leads to Arin, who is not comatose and has had a drugged changeling posing as him for the better part of this time).  Arin has a secret lab he's been working on in the lower parts of Sharn.  In the end the brother is slain, as in falls of his soar sled, body vanishes (he will return again later).  The only remaining item found is a Khyber shard, with a faint glowing light.  The shard is badly cracked and in handling it, it shatters, releasing the light and a soft mist into the air.

If anyone has guessed it, on return to Bren's home a hasty note is received from Morgrave UNiversity. The warforged has come to life, his runes glow softly with a yellowish light.  His memory foggy, he knows little of him past, his name, or any of his skills.  He sees visions of a great war, of dragons and creatures of old, even a vast army of goblins marching over Khorvare.  Nothing makes sense, yet deep down, he finds familiarity in seeing the 3 other players and Bren, but he can't figure out why.

-----

So, this is how we brought my son back into the game, he is a Warforged Deva.  Worforged in appearance and requrements, but Deva in racial features.  Think of the Revenant in this respect.  His diety (name escapes me god of forge) has returned him, but due to the loss of his body and the Mourning, he returns his soul to that of the body of a construct he used to work on in his early days as a tinkerer.

Right now, we are playing as if the part has yet to discover the warforged true origins, but a mass of interest has formed from House Cannith over the issue, especially the mysterious angelic script that has repalced much of the original Cannith runes.  At this point, no one can read the script, and only slowly are we having the true memories of the original body come out.

Ug, I just reread this and realized I referred to the Artificer as a dwarf all through the commentary, lord knows why.
