I'm running with an idea that would take place around 20 years in the Eberron future. A very small number of warforged have manifested the Mark of the Sentinel. Now I've been reading through the Eberron Campaign Setting and it seems possible that it could happen what with the same thing happening to the other various races as they moved on to Khorvaire the thousands of years ago.

Your opinions and thoughts are greatly appreciated...

There was a thread with almost the same line of questions a while back (but I'm to lazy to find it for you). But it is a general agreement on the forums that dragonmarked should not be anything that could be abused to hurt others. Personally I feel that only giving them repair light damage is a bit boring so I would recommend digging up a few cool spells also.

The warforged that manifested it would be on the run/ in hiding. He doesn't like the attention it brought him, although he likes and appreciates the powers the mark gives him. He doesn't want to be poked and prodded and studied so he's wondering on his own and keeps the mark covered.

I think the question you need to ask yourself is: why?

The dragonmarks are only given to the dragonmarked races because of their importance in the draconic prophesy.

No new (non-aberrant) marks have manifested themselves on a non-marked race in 1000s of years.

So the question you need to answer is why are they appearing?

If you can find a good answer then everything you need will fall out of that.

If you can't think of anything then you probably want to dig a bit deeper or give up the idea and play something more standard.

*Possible Spoiler*

In the Eberron module "Eyes of the Lich Queen" there is an altar that bestows the Aberrant Dragonmark on non-DM'd races like shifters and WF. In that module it gives Resist Energy as the Eberrant feat. Maybe in your campaign the Marks are only temporary and a sign of something to come, and the Warforged need to find out why they received them. Also the ghulra or birthmarks that are unique to all warforged might be a hook for a campaign idea. Maybe your warforged were all born with the same ones or something new is happening to the ghulra that they have already.

Hope that helps:P

Grafster, the only answer he needs is: It makes a great plot twist.

Now, if he does, he needs to think of the repercussions of such an event in the world to make sure the players realise how incredible it is.

The only things I've thought of as far as reactions would go are that some less than savry people would have the ill morals to want to experiment and study the warforged to try and understand why they manifested. So there would be people from House Denieth sent after all the warforged for sure.

It's still a work in progress , does anyone have any other ideas or help?

One other obvious reaction to the warforged gaining dragonmarks, would be the Lord of Blades sending emissaries/scouts to see if they could be used to bolster his forces.

This campaign would be a continuation (2 years after) our epic campaign where we actually defeated the Lord of Blades army (close to 20 years in Eberron's future)

but...

I was thinking of creating a warforged cleric obsessed with resurrecting the Lord of Blades to help finish the war against the inferior fleshed races (but with more subtlety the second time, lol) So the warforged cleric could be wanting to round up the dragonmarked warforged for the Lord of Blade's return...

One possible reaction to a new fledgling dragonmark would be retribution from the established Houses, especially if the new mark has any similarity to an existing one. The houses aren't fans of competition. Lots of intrigue there.

Indeed. House Deneith would be loathe to share their mark with a warforged. That, or they would want to take in the guy and see if his mark can be replicated in other warforged, thereby increasing their business and lessening their reliance on monstrous mercenaries.

Whats anyones opinion on the Lord of Blades being worshiped (much as he was thought a prophet in life) and having clerics that receive spells. Kind of like Lady Vol and the Blood of Vol Cult. Then the warforged cleric wouldn't need to resurrect him, instead he'd just be following in his footsteps. Possibly using an Animate Dead spells on fallen warforged yada...yada and tracking down and enlisting warforged with newly manifested dragonmarks.

Sound decent?

Minor point. If you go look at the Eberron Timeline, you see some big times between marks appearing.
First three marks appear.
200 years
4th mark
200 years
5th mark
200 years
6th mark
100 years
7th & 8th mark
500 years
9th mark
100 years
10th mark
100 years
11th mark
300 years
12th mark, & War of the mark, starting the systematic extermination of people with aberrant marks.
500 years
13th mark
1000 years
The present.

So, basically, what we're seeing is, for a period of roughly twice as long as any before, we haven't seen a new dragon mark. Oh, also, during that time, people who showed dragon marks we didn't classify as "True Dragon Marks" are hunted down and killed. To the present day. So, yeah.

New dragon mark, not a big problem.

It wouldn't be a new dragonmark. It would be the Mark of the Sentinel appearing on a new race (warforged).

I was thinking it had something to do with the Lord of Blades being accepted as a demi-deity in my campaigns future where our Epic characters defeated his army 20 or so years in the future but he continued being worshiped by warforged.

It may not fit completely with any timeline but I think it's an interesting plot that has a slight chance of happening in their future.

I sorry but I am to lazy to read every post so if this has been said, sorry again. I don't see much of a problem with giving Warforged some for of the dragonmarks. One as the Dm you can do what you want, but a few things to think about and consider. You want to to give them the mark of Sentinel; why? The mark of Making seems to be a better fit storyline whys. After all they are more a part of House Cannith not Dennith. You could also just open up the aberration marks up to non-dragonmarked races and create more of them just for the warforged

I like the idea of giving Warforged a dragonmark.

One of the first things that pops in my mind is the legitimacy the mark would give the warforged as a race. This would lead to a few things:

- At first, an interest by the Sharn Paper
- Strong push in Breland for greater Warforged rights
- A resurgence of warforged seeking rights
- Increased opression from the governments of nations that use warforged as endentured servants, while the general public
- Desire from dragonmarked houses in general at first to purge out the warforged dragonmarks, as they would see it as an un-natural occurance. After they settled down a bit, they'd look to make sure things settled, and pressure house Denithe to accept the warforged...while secretly searching for warforged of other marks and disposing of them quietly.
- Interest from a dragon prophet or two. The dragons may or may not have known all along, but I'd imagine a dragon prophet who wasn't informed prior would take extreme interest in the appearance.

The other question is "Why?"

- The warforged are a new race, and this is still a relatively short time span for the mark to manifest itself on them.
- There was an interesting thread a while back that the warforged were made from Incarnum, ie power from souls. The souls that powered the warforged in the marked might be from house Denithe, and might link back to a particular tragic loss/event in the house.

Just a few ideas, hope they help. Cheers, and good luck!

The giants already made warforged very early in history.
At this time their we recieve a dragonmark 'countdown' started, after a while the giants were defeated or whatever and their countdown slowed down.

Then the warforged were manufactured again and their numbers increased, the countdown sped up again.

Or perhaps a ritual or powerfull beign altered their manufacturing process.

I already use souls as a main ingredient in all my great forges. Using creation disks like a filter, so that you can get a higher success rate at what kind of personality you will get. The body itself is constructed seperatly and gets infused and imbued with life in the forge.
The trick is preparing a body and creation disk so that the soul and body will take to each other.

Since warforged don't regenerate by themselves, dragonmarks on warforged would only show themselves after healing/repairing magics or if they we're born with them.
I would argue that mundain repairs are not enough to bring the mark to bare.

Alternatively the mark would show itself after being used.

Giving the warforged dragonmarks would indeed raise interrest in their mute cause for WF-rights, I'm already imagining great parades of admantineplating and mithril banners saying: "We are here" (less is more, spartan kind of viewpoint, seems to fit well with most warforged)

I was thinking of doing something similar myself at some point, but thought of a bit of a twist. What if the mark isn't a true mark. Now, I don't mean aberrant one, I mean a fake. An artificier, of unknown allegiance, has designed a tattoo like graft that simulates the powers of a mark. I was playing with the idea that the purpose was to infiltrate another house, for espionage or what have you, and it was inadvertently placed on the character, unbeknownst to them, through a series of mishaps. This would allow the PC to believe it is real, and add an extra level to the whole "oh my god a warforged developed a mark!" aspect.

Nice! Im definately stealing that. Combine it with the theory that a warforged must be healed for the mark to manifest itself, and you have a seemingly genuine event to back it up. Would the mark fizzle out after a while? Would the artificer 'upgrade' the mark to a greater one to further his plans?

Good idea! Only instead of it being an actual fake, add a second twist.

We're most of the 'warmarked' are fakes, but the character has a real one :D

Add in a few different cults (different groups fighting for and against warforged rights). Just watch the media on any political debate and you'll have your NPC characters right there :P

Make sure to really let the party get into the grind of the political debates, street brawls and other hostilities are more then possible. There are a lot of angry people in eberron just waiting for an excuse.

Hat crimes against warforged, an increase in interrest in natural goods and manual craftmanship (not by those job stealing machines though).

Then in response let a splintergroup of warforged kill some random unknown NPC's, you could even recycle some LoB cronies

That should be more then enough to elevate the anger in any mob :D

Also add the pasive peace lovers, if you need comical relief.
Nothing is funnier then the two opposed sides beating the crap out of a hippie halfling and realising that picking fights with people that don't fight back is a lot easier.
