| #1LordDreadmanMar 22, 2009 17:27:18 | I know that a lot of people think that the Warforged will be printed in the Eberron Player's Guide, but I wonder where we get that information. I remember reading that articles in DDI (with the exception of playtest articles) are exclusive to DDI, and will not be published in normal WotC products. This is in direct contrast to the fact that the Warforged information was published in Dragon 364, but we assume it will be published in the EPG. Personally, I want to see the Warforged put into the EPG right next to the Kalashtar, Changling/Doppelganger, and new versions of the Shifters, but I feel uncertain that this will happen given what I understand about DDI articles. Was this ever stated by WotC developers? I would love to see a link of some sort to an article, blog, or other information pointing out that yes, the Warforged will be in EPG or no, the Warforged article was it. Thanks in advance! Yours, Lord Dreadman |
| #2nthdegree256Mar 22, 2009 18:25:05 | I don't think we have any official confirmation. That said, itt would seem very strange to put a warforged on both the cover of the Player's Guide and the Campaign Setting, and then not include them in the book. |
| #3LordDreadmanMar 22, 2009 18:47:19 | There's a human there too ... but I doubt it will be covered in the EPG. Warforged are an important symbol in Eberron, so it stands to reason that it has a place on the cover, but it seems like a logical leap to assume that this means it will be statted out. Talked about at length, yes. Necessarily written up, no. It should be mentioned that one of the Warforged is the Lord of Blades, a prominant character in Eberron. As a specific individual, it seems unlikely that this suggests anything about what will be covered in the EPG. No more than if Errandis d'Vol appeared on the cover .... That wouldn't mean that the Half-Dragon race would be covered or anything. I applogise for the way I wrote my response ... I just wasn't convinced by your argument. :D Again, I do hope that the Warforged gets a write up ... I just don't want it to replace anything else that could have been there. Yours, Lord Dreadman |
| #4sallaMar 22, 2009 20:08:10 | I figure there will be a Warforged racial writeup in the EPG because, strange as it may sound to say, not everybody has access to the Internet and can download the Warforged article from Dragon Magazine. Hellcow has HINTED that the race MIGHT not be the same as in those articles anyway. |
| #5JohnLynchMar 23, 2009 6:27:28 | Personally, I want to see the Warforged put into the EPG right next to the Kalashtar, Changling/Doppelganger, and new versions of the Shifters, but I feel uncertain that this will happen given what I understand about DDI articles. I personally hope Warforged aren't reprinted because I firmly believe we'll only get 2 races in the EPG. So I'd rather they be Kalashtar and Dopplegangers myself. Also I think everyone is just assuming about Warforged. They were a race introduced in the Eberron books. A safe assumption seems that they'll be updated for 4th edition in the Eberron books. However Shifters would throw into question just how safe that assumption truly is. |
| #6ieattrollsforbreakfastMar 23, 2009 7:03:52 | It has been confirmed that warforged will appear in the EPG. Check the blurb of this article for that confirmation: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20090116 Really, though, how can you have an Eberron Player's Guide without the warforged? They're so important to the setting that it would be a disservice to not include them just because they've already been released in Dragon Magazine. Not everyone reads the official site after all. It's a shame that that means we'll see reprinted material, but I think it's necessary for the completeness of the setting books. I just hope we get two other races as well! Here's another significant quote with regards to the races: "You'll see more examples of how a PC race is not always the same as a monster race in the Eberron Player's Guide this summer." http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drdd/20090206 The implication is that there are at least two MM races converted in the EPG. We know one is the warforged, so the other is very likely to be the doppelganger. That doesn't mean we won't see the kalashtar as well, and I hope we do! |
| #7LordDreadmanMar 23, 2009 15:39:14 | Well, I'm glad to hear that the Warforged will be printed in the EPG ... but now I'm worried about the Kalashtar! I swear, it is a mistake to release the EPG without rules for the Kalashtar. Where did we get comfirmation that there would only be two races in the EPG? I don't recall reading this either ... though, once again, I could have just missed it. I really hope you're wrong about the two races thing. I can see two solutions: 1) They will suggest that we substitute another race for the Kalashtar (even though none of them fit ... no, devas do not work as Kalashtar) or 2) they will force us to wait for PH3. Honestly, I don't know which one I hate more. They're really close ... sitting up near the terrible thought that 5th Edition is two years away or something horrible like that. If anyone were to ask me, which I note they're not, I think they need a four of the Eberron races in EPG. Yeah ... that means more shifters ... you know, like before? Anyways, here's hoping! Yours, Lord Dreadman |
| #8JohnLynchMar 23, 2009 18:59:07 | Where did we get comfirmation that there would only be two races in the EPG? We didn't. Its yet another assumption. Because at this stage that's all we have. I believe we'll get Kalashtar in EPG because Keith has said he's working on giving Kalashtar a psionic feel without them having to necessarily take psionic classes. |
| #9NivedMar 23, 2009 19:20:16 | Yeah I distinctly remember that the Kalashtar were confirmed at GenCon. People were asking how it'd work without Psionics being released yet and the answer was along the lines of not all kalashtar use psionic classes, though they will be statted so they are excellent choices for psionics when they come out. Expect more information on the Path of Light and for kalashtar to make excellent divine characters as well. I'm paraphrasing of course, I have trouble remembering last week sometimes so last July is pushing it. |
| #10AvonRekaesMar 24, 2009 10:20:42 | I just have my fingers crossed for the Doppleganger and the Kalashtar. The Warforged race write-up is part of the free preview of Dragon, so paying for it isn't an issue. Some people might not have net access, but out of an entire gaming group, someone should be able to get to a local library every now and then and be able to download the pdf. I'm a little miffed that Warforged are going to be wasting valuable print space for the Doppleganger and Kalashtar. Also, not sure we're ever going to get a new Shifter type, since the other types are represented through racial feats, like Gorebrute Charge. If anything, we're only missing Dreamsight shifters, which might get a +2 Wisdom instead of +2 Str or +2 Dex offered by the Razorclaw and Longtooth. |

I'm a little miffed that Warforged are going to be wasting valuable print space for the Doppleganger and Kalashtar. Uhm, the Razorclaw and Longtooth both already get +2 Wisdom. I'm going to assume you don't mean Dreamsights should get +4 Wisdom. Odds are, there'll be a Dreamsight racial feat. |
| #12AvonRekaesMar 24, 2009 11:21:56 | What? Really? I thought they had Con. Well, obviously, I only glanced at them. Shifters weren't my favorite of Eberron races. :P (And no, I didn't mean +4 Wis.) Though I guess Dreamsight being +2 Wis and Cha might be interesting, leaving them open to a better shifting encounter power since Wis and Cha modifiers apply to the same NAD. |
| #13sallaMar 24, 2009 14:35:37 | What? Really? I thought they had Con. Nope, Longtooths are +2 STR, Razorclaw +2 DEX, both are +2 WIS; fits in with the whole 'primal' thing. I doubt we'll see any more shifter subraces, though; they seem to be limited them significantly. Could be wrong, though. |
| #14skrapsanMar 26, 2009 14:35:21 | I doubt we'll see any more shifter subraces, though; they seem to be limited them significantly. I certainly hope we don't see any more shifter versions. The amount of subraces of the shifter was ridiculous. I mean, I loved how Eberron "got rid" of a lot of other subraces. So why the crazy amount of shifter versions? |
| #15NivedMar 26, 2009 16:13:28 | Most of them have become feats, beast hide, gore brute, cliff walker are all feats in the PHBII. |
| #16ubermenchMar 28, 2009 15:37:31 | I can't imagine Eberron without the warforged but if the warforged are going to be as nerfed as they were in the dragon article then it really wont matter if they are included because they wont be the warforged I fell in love with. I do hope that WotC retools the warforged for Eberron to retain the flavor of the original. |

If that's how you feel, I strongly recommend reading these two posts by Keith Baker on the subject of 4E Warforged: http://gloomforge.livejournal.com/10343.html http://gloomforge.livejournal.com/10703.html I pretty much figure that, if the creator of the Eberron is fine with their implementation, I'm fine with it too. ![]() |
| #19skrapsanMar 29, 2009 2:45:31 | They're balanced with the other PC races. They're fine. But I remember mr Baker asked for feedback on the article because as he stated "a Eberron Warforged is not the same thing as a Core Warforged. Just like a Eberron Gnome is not the same as a Core Gnome." Don't remember the specifics. But then again, personally I feel that they are fine, balanced and all we need is some fluff alterations and we are good to go... (I still hope we get the changeling and Khalashtar though). |

| #21skrapsanMar 29, 2009 8:05:38 | Those differences could well be fluff over mechanics anyway. And I'm not arguing either way. I only feel happy that the designers actually took the time too listen to our feedback on the race. So maybe they got better mechanically, most likely through feats and paragon & epic destinies. Or maybe they got a fluff up that fits them better into the setting. Personally I hope for both... but I don't have the answers that is all I know. |
| #22ubermenchMar 30, 2009 15:45:11 | If WotC had included the posts by K.Baker I wouldn't have had such a bad reaction to the 4e warforged, but 4e is fluff free and that fluff can make the differance between hating a reworked idea and loving it. I think my bigest complant is I and my gaming group have always played up the construct part of the warforged and 4e is forcing us to focus on the living part. |
| #23AvonRekaesMar 30, 2009 16:46:37 | Well you can still play up how they don't sleep, eat, or breathe, and techncially can't die unless you beat them to negative bloodied HP (they can always take 10 on death saves, ensuring they'll never fail 3 times and die that way). As an optional rule, wave the "enemies die at 0 hp" for Warforged, and force your PCs to take another action to destroy enemy warforged after they reach 0. Otherwise a leader monster can heal them back up either during combat, or after. Also, you can get pretty construct-y with component items. I also houserule component armor, because really, why the hell wouldn't they allow that after stripping the race of an inherent armor bonus? Makes no sense. |

By making it as fluffless as possible, they're enabling you to focus on whatever aspects of it you want. If you don't like the fluff, you change it. Fluff is mutable and can, and should, be changed to fit one's personal gaming style and game world. |
