3.5 Edition
So with eberron being a high magic steampunk setting a question has been nagging at me lately,is the wealth guide in the DMG to low for Eberron. It just seems that rare metals and magic are just really easy to find as PCs in it, the forge of war being a good example if you have more money minded characters. For example all of this came up while we were running it and the players had never ran it before so this was on the fly.
1 Take the 3 dead iron defenders for scraps.
2 Drag the adamantine gates out of the place.
3 take parts off of the dead warforged-yea that one is morally wrong but still.
4 Characters pimping out there dragon marks on the street or something for a good profit.
5 artificers just being money making machines.

Im sure there will be more things lik this as we work our way through shadows of the last war, whispers of the vampires blade, grasp of the emerald claw, and the golden dragon.

Well, firstly Eberron isn't steampunk.  Nothing runs on steam, nothing is technological; it's magical.

1. The iron defenders probably aren't worth the effort to lug around; they're iron.
2. That's a major undertaking that is going to take a lot of time and effort; adamantine is heavy, and there are things down there that will try to eat you while you're fussing with the gates.
3. Warforged body parts pit and decay when removed from the body; you can't sell them.
4. That's basically what the Dragonmarked Houses do (which means they'll probably want a cut)
5. See 4.

The ultimate answer is to talk to your players and determine what kind of game you all want to play.  If you want a game where the PCs are more heroic, and less mercenary/greedy, tell them up front so they create characters who aren't primarily motivated by money.

Yea my bad on using the term steampunk, was just he most fitting term i could think of with all the elemental bound trains ect. Did not think of that for the warforged, or the houses. But even they can still make quite alot of bank with 50% of the profit from there mark. But all in all they are a mercenary band but i think the artificer will be the only one who will really be money minded all that much and it will be easy to get him to blow the extra gold on something i bet.
