I've looked through the two 4E books without luck, does anyone here know of any 3E materials that might have the creation cost for warforged? |

They bought them by the hundreds/thousands as part of larger contracts. They weren't necessarily paid on delivery or payed in cash either. Different governments worked out different deals with House Cannith in exchange for Warforged soldiers. Creation cost alone also doesn't cover the logistical support Warforged would need while in service. I'm sure that in practice, the debt most Warforged working for the crown owe would be ridiculous. I doubt most of them have any idea how much it is, let alone much interest in/hope of actually paying it off. |

Were immune to disease and poison, automatically had PC class levels, and could repair themselves at a forge. IE they were VERY useful soldiers from the perspective of logistics. Plus since they never really got tired they could march for weeks on end. 4th would change things a bit, but in principle I'd say the costs seem relatively good. Maybe it also depends on what nation you're in, as Aundair and Thrane were the big indentured servitude nations, yes? |

It just seems odd that, given their prowess with necromancy and huge undead legions that they'd see a need for the warforged. Given the cost and all undead troops have many of the same advantages and might not cost so much per creature. I guess maybe after the whole reduction in power of the blood of vol they might have had to buy troops to offset defections or loss of necromancers but it still seems kind of off to me. |

Perhaps they'd send the Warforged troops against Aundarians, since those pesky Silver Flame clerics couldn't obliterate them with a thought? |

Maybe, but clerics aren't super-common, more common in Thrane, sure, but still not super common. Plus with higher HD undead, innate turn resistance and stuff like the corpse crafter feats in libris mortis, it just seemed a bit off is all. Though I do see your point that in battling a thranish army or a clerical force that warforged might have been more practical. |
