At least that's how it was explained to me by a player of the game. Does anyone have more information on the Heart, or where I could find more information? I've tried gaming websites but they give solely walkthroughs, not information. |

It destroyed the Qabalrin civilization, and the Silver Flame, Umbragen, and Lizardfolk ended up fighting over it. There's an issue of Dungeon with an article on the Ring of Storms that has some info on it, IIRC. Also, an issue of Dragon has an article on the Umbragen which touches on it, I believe. |

Note: A quite good game, Dragonshard. The characterisaton of the Umbragen was very lacking, though. If you intend to use the Lizardfolk, I'd suggest adding some dragonborn into the mix-more mutations. |

The original storyline had a third campaign arc in which you played the Umbragen, and this explored their culture and motives in more detail. Lacking that, they come across as very generic evil. The basic point of the Umbragen is that they are searching for power to help them in their battle with the forces of the Dragon Below. This has already led them to their bond with the Umbra, but that wasn't enough. So it's about a struggle for survival and what sacrifices they are willing to make to hold onto their domain... becoming monsters in the fight against monsters. |

Afterall, they've got aberrant creatures on their side. Perhaps the Daelkyr wants the Heart for its own inscruitable purposes (Like tearing the planes assunder... Or trapping all existance inside the Heart so he can have a neat little snow-globe on his photosynthesizing-insect-tentacle-construct shelf at home in Xoriat.) |
