I'm in the process of creating a history for the talanta halfling I think I am going to be playing in the upcoming game, and I am trying to figure out what the character would have been doing while the war was raging. |

Consider: Glidewing scouts could cover a great deal of ground fairly cheaply (not as pricy or exotic as gargoyle, wyvern-mounted, dragonhawk-mounted, or the like scouts). Halflings mounted on Carvers or Clawfeet may not have been as agile or quick as a cavalryman on horses (basing this on 3e; I don't have the 4e books in front of me right now aside from the ECG), but they make up for this lack of speed with a great deal of killpower. Medium cav, in other terms. |

So basically, individual tribes couldn't stop their ancient land becoming yet another landscape to be conquered. So they gathered under tha banner of a leader, fighting off incursions (not exactly to the Plains itself, but as a path between Karrnath and Cyre) and defending their livestocks. From there you could have a number of concepts based around people protecting their ancient land. Not unlike, say, American Indians I guess. Of course, outsiders weren't particularly interested in the resources, but more of a convenient battlefield where the cavalries could charge to their hearts' content. |
